Alone in the Dark is a critically acclaimed survival horror action adventure game designed by Frédérick Raynal and developed by Infogrames and Krisalis (3DO). It was published by Infogrames in 1992. The game has spawned several sequels as part of the Alone in the Dark series and is considered the first 3D survival horror game.

Story[edit]

The story takes place in 1925, soon after the suicide of the famous painter Jeremy Hartwood in his luxurious mansion in Louisiana named Derceto. Playing either Emily Hartwood, the niece of the owner, or Edward Carnby, a private detective, you visit the mansion to discover reason for Jeremy's suicide. Once inside, it turns out that the place is cursed and you are now locked up with monsters all around you. Your goal will be to uncover the dark secrets of the manor in order to find a way to escape this nightmare.

Gameplay[edit]

Having heavily influenced the Resident Evil series, the is a classic survival-horror game, featuring tank controls, inventory management, doors to unlock and many, many traps. Pre-set camera angles give cinematic points of view. To appreciate the experience, play this game alone ... in the dark!
