Ape Escape 3 (サルゲッチュ3 (Saru Getchu 3) in Japan) is a platforming video game developed by Japan Studio for the Playstation 2 and the third installment in the Ape Escape series, released in 2005 in Japan and 2006 in North America, Europe, and Australasia.

Story[edit]

Taking place after Ape Escape 2, the evil ape Specter has gotten free once more, and has teamed up with mad scientist Dr. Tomoki to enslave humanity with the power of television. Using a small army of monkeys led by five lieutenants, Specter is opposed by the protagonists, Kei and Yumi, young siblings who were unaffected by their plan. To save humanity, they must use various gadgets to capture all of the monkeys across different studio sets and defeat Specter and his lieutenants.

Gameplay[edit]

Ape Escape 3 is a 3D platforming game where the player takes control of either Kei or Yumi, young siblings who use gadgets to solve puzzles and capture the monkeys in stages that can be freely explored. The monkeys cannot be defeated except with the use of a Capture Net, which transports them away, though they can attack and defeat the player character, who will be kicked out of the level if they run out of lives. A certain number of monkeys must be caught to complete a level immediately, with boss battles occurring after every few levels. The game also contains several mini-games that can be unlocked and played between levels, including Mesal Gear Solid, a parody of Metal Gear Solid.
