Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies/Observatory
After you have finished creating your character, you will see a cutscene where your character and Aquila are watching over Angel Falls. Erinn and her grandfather are walking back to the village. Suddenly, a cruelcumber and two slimes prepare to ambush them. Aquila and your character rush over to stop them, which starts your first battle.
The battle is easy since Aquila is level 20 and joins you in the fight. He can defeat each monster in one hit. Your character requires two hits.
After the battle, another cutscene plays where Erinn and her grandfather safely return to Angels Falls unaware that they were about to be ambushed. Because your character and Aquila are Celestians, they are not able to see you. Erinn thanks your character for protecting their journey and her gratitude creates a crystal of benevolessence.
Your character and Aquila fly back to the observatory. When you arrive, Aquila tells you to report to Apus Major in the Great Hall. From here on you can control your character.
Your starting equipment includes:
- Copper sword
- Celestial suit
- Celestial stockings
- Celestial shoes
You have no other items and have not learned any spells or abilities yet.
Observatory - L1[edit]
To the left and right of the stairs are doors to a prayer room where you can save your game. At the bottom left corner is a Celestian who will heal you. At the bottom right corner is a room with a red chest. Inside is a chimaera wing. In front of the door at the center bottom is some stairs that lead to L2. Beneath those stairs is a room with a red chest that contains a seed of life. The door is hidden on the back and initially locked until after you offer the benevolessence.
Observatory - L2[edit]
Apus Major can be found straight ahead above the stairs. He tells you to offer the benevolessence to the Great World Tree, Yggdrasil. Go out the door at the bottom.
Observatory - L1-L2[edit]
Go up the stairs and talk to the Celestial blocking the stair path to get him to move. There is a red chest top left that contains 50 gold (Holy water) coins and one to the top right that contains a wakerobin. Continue going up the stairs until you get to Yggdrasil.
Observatory - L4[edit]
Offer the benevolessence to Yggdrasil and a cutscene plays. After the cutscene, return to Apus Major. He tells you to return to the Protectorate to gather more benevolessence. When you are ready, talk to the female Celestian by the portal on L1.
