Galaga '88 is a fixed shooter arcade game that was released by Namco in 1987 (despite its name) and licensed to Atari Games for US manufacture and distribution. It runs on Namco System 1 hardware, and is the fourth (and final standard arcadian) title in the company's Galaxian series. It was later ported to the TurboGrafx-16 as Galaga '90 and the Sega Game Gear as Galaga '91.

The premise is much the same as that of Galaxian, Galaga and Gaplus, but is in several ways much more complex and difficult. The game is divided into twenty-nine stages over five dimensions, each of which has four stages (except for the first dimension, which only has three). Most non-bonus stages in the game also feature obstacles that disappear once the formation of enemies have fully assembled; the player's ship warps from one dimension to another by collecting the "warp capsules" these obstacles will leave behind when destroyed, which also have the power to make it invincible for a very short period of time when collected.

Several new enemies have also been introduced - some have the powers to meld with each other and create giant versions of themselves (which take three hits to kill), while others arrive in eggs (which must be destroyed before you can kill them), inflate slightly each time you hit them before exploding, or have protective shells that make them invincible while in formation. Certain enemy types explode into small formations of tiny aliens that will wiggle their way down the screen when hit, and others act as escorts to incoming groups of enemies before quickly diving towards the player's ship and leaving the screen (never to return).
