MapleStory/Professions

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

This page describes the Professions system.

General Information[edit]

You must be level 35 or higher with 2nd job advancement to learn a profession.

  • There are two harvesting professions: Herbalism and Mining. Both can be learnt at the same time.
  • There are three crafting professions: Alchemy, Smithing, and Accessory Crafting. Only 1 can be learnt at any time per character in non-Reboot worlds, and all 3 can be learnt together in Reboot worlds.
  • Learning Herbalism is a requirement before you can learn Alchemy.
  • Learning Mining is a requirement before you can learn Smithing or Accessory Crafting.
  • After learning a crafting profession, you can unlearn it through that profession's master. The crafting level is reset and all learnt recipes would be forgotten.
  • Herbalism allows you to gather seeds and flowers which are located in Saffron’s Secret Herb Patch in Ardentmill and some hunting maps. It also allows you to use those to create items needed for Alchemy.
  • Mining allows you to gather ores which are located in Cole’s Secret Mine in Ardentmill and some hunting maps. It also allows you to refine ores to create items needed for Smithing and Accessory Crafting.
  • Alchemy allows you to create buff potions and transformation potions using herb oil.
  • Smithing allows you to create weapons and armor using refined ore. You can eventually learn how to make an Android companion, and even cubes.
  • Accessory Crafting allows you to create equipment items such as rings, pendants, and shoulder accessories using refined ore. You can even make Resurrection Flames.
  • Using your profession earns you experience in that profession in order to raise its mastery level. Higher levels of mastery enable you to harvest or craft better items.
  • Some items for further crafting can't be made. Some can be bought from Nack, Ramsey, or Angelica in Ardentmill, others are dropped by monsters.
  • The Production Skill menu is set to the [B] key by default.
  • You can also earn Empathy, Insight and Diligence EXP.
For more details on Traits, see MapleStory/Traits.

Ardentmill[edit]

It is a town where you go to in order to craft items such as equipments, special potions, herb oils and plates. There are secret gardens and mines available there which you can access freely to harvest for herbs and ores. You can buy imp disease cure, molds, abrasives and herb oil bottles from NPC Nack at the left side. The other 2 NPC beside the storage sells recipes.

It is accessible through most towns, or using the teleport function in the Professions window at the top right area with a 5 minutes cooldown.

The other NPCs are as follows.

  • Grant is the village elder, who allows you to learn professions.
  • Saffron teaches Herbalism.
  • Cole teaches Mining.
  • Ally teaches Alchemy.
  • Gere teaches Smithing.
  • Intaglio teaches Accessory Crafting.

Each profession has a few associated profession-exclusive quests. The second quest for each gathering profession allows you to get an 8-slot bag for that profession. For example, herbalists can get an 8-slot bag that will hold herbs and seeds, but not ores. Note: you can only get one 8-slot bag (Herbalism or Mining), not the other.

Fatigue[edit]

You will gain Fatigue Points while performing profession skills. If your Fatigue Point meter is full, you won't be able to use profession skills again for a little while.

You can reduce your Fatigue points by using certain fatigue reduction potions from events or by using a Fatigue Reset Coupon from the Cash Shop but there is a 30 minute cooldown between potions. Your Fatigue Points will also reduced by 20 each hour, and they will be completely reset to 0 each day at 12 AM Pacific.

The maximum Fatigue is 200 in non-Reboot world and 300 for Reboot worlds, and it is applied per character.

Mastery[edit]

Harvesting
  • You get mastery for everything you craft and harvest. You get mastery into herbalism or mining for every herb or vein harvested respectively, and 20 mastery for every oil or plate/crystal made. Note that if you fail to harvest, it will give you 10% of the usual mastery.
  • Success rate of harvesting increases with level, but the mastery received decreases (higher level herbs/veins give more mastery).
  • Max level for herbalism and mining is 10.
Crafting
  • You get mastery for crafting potions/items into alchemy/smithing/accessory crafting, whichever you chose to be.
  • Mastery increases for crafting higher leveled stuff, but it has lower success rate. Premium rate increases with level and this allows items created to have Potentials and maybe Additional Potentials in non-Reboot as a result.
  • For crafting lower leveled items, you get less mastery.
  • For accessory and smithing, success rate is 95% for craft level 5-8 at the same level as your craft level (crafting level 5 items at level 5, etc.) and 90% for level 9-10. This success rate increases to 100% when your level is at least 21 higher than the targeted equipment level crafted or when your craft level exceeds the optimal craft level stated.
  • For alchemy, success rate is 95% for level 5-8 and 90% for level 9. Success rate increases to 100% when your craft level exceeds optimum craft level stated or when you are level 10 or more.
Crafting past level 10
  • To gain mastery past level 10, you need to craft items suitable for level 8 or more. They will give increased mastery than previously before level 10. However, each item has a 5~15 minute cooldown, and the cooldown also applies even before reaching level 10. Master Craftsman and Meister items have a longer cooldown which varies across items, so you have to craft a variety of items to gain more mastery simultaneously.
  • If mastery is not increased after a set period, mastery will decline until it is Level 10 with 0 mastery.
    • Level 10 and Master Craftsman: After 48 hours, each hour will reduce mastery by 300.
    • Meister: After 24 hours, each hour will reduce mastery by 400.
  • Max level for alchemy, smithing and accessory crafting is Meister (Level 12).

Herbalism[edit]

This section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.

Herbalism lets a character gather herbs. After getting this skill, you will receive a shovel that is required to collect herbs, even though you can still harvest herbs without it. However, better shovels may be used in place if applicable. Herbalism can only be paired with Alchemy.

Accessory Crafting[edit]

This section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.

You can craft rings, belts, earrings and accessory equipments. As you level higher it has more chance of adding more stats than usual or giving item potential.

  • At Master Craftsman level, you can craft more powerful master equips and Fierce Flame of resurrection (has chance to add better stats than those dropped by monsters, which are in the range of Stat Level 1 to 3 Additional Options. This flame allows you to surpass Stat Level 3 at a higher chance)
  • At Meister level you can craft meister equipments and Rainbow Rebirth flame. (Gives high Additional Option Stats)
    • Note: Even though the Rainbow Rebirth Flame states explicitly that it provides the maximum possible stats, it actually only guarantees that at least 1 of the Additional Option lines will be a Stat Level 4 or higher; it does not make all the lines automatically at max Stat Level 7)
For more details on Stat Levels of Bonus Stats / Additional Options, see MapleStory/Bonus Stats#Mechanics.

Alchemy[edit]

This section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.

You can craft healing potions, transform potions, buff potions and special potions. Extractors can be crafted for people of other professions to use it to extract their equipments. However they will need to pay you based on the price you set. (Between 1 to 99,999 meso per usage)

  • At Master Craftsman level, you can craft even rarer and special potions. 8/10 slot herb/mine bags are craftable as well as scroll extractor.
    • Potions have one of the 4 effects: Add 10% Damage to Boss Monsters, Adds 10% Ignore DEF, Adds 5% All stats or Add 5% Total Damage (although the description says 5% Attack). Lasts for 40 minutes with 60 minute cooldown.
    • Scroll extractor can extract scrolls and rebirth flames for materials needed for Master Craftsman and Meister level items.
  • At Meister level you can craft super rare and special potions. 8 slot coin bag and 12 slot herb/mine bag are craftable along with the cube extractor.
    • Special potions have one of the 4 effects: Adds 20% Damage to Boss Monsters, Adds 20% Ignore DEF, Adds 10% All stats or Add 10% Total Damage (although the description says 10% Attack). Lasts for 40 minute with 50 minute cooldown.
    • Cube extractor can extract Suspicious/Occult Cubes for cube fragments that are used to craft Master Craftsman Cubes and Meister Cubes.

Smithing[edit]

This section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.

Smithing lets characters craft equipment, such as arrows, armor, and weapons.

  • At Master Craftsman level you can craft even more powerful equipments and Master Craftsman cube is craftable.
    • Master Craftsman cube works up till Unique potential rank and resets item potential once with a small chance to upgrade the potential rank once up till Unique.
  • At Meister level you can craft meister equipments and Meister cube is craftable.
    • Meister Cube works just like a much worse version of a RED Cube which works up till Legendary potential rank and resets item potential once with a small chance of upgrading the potential rank once up till Legendary.

Item Extraction and Fusion[edit]

Even for non-Alchemists, Alchemy can be used to extract ("break down") unwanted equipment into crafting materials (item crystals, etc.), or to fuse duplicate equipment into a new, clean copy of that equipment. These two UIs can be accessed by clicking icons on the "Inventory" UI while in Ardentmill.

Alchemists and Extractors can extract 10 items at a time, while other professions can only extract 5 equipment items. A shortcut of right-clicking can be used to add items while the fuse/extract UI is open. Extracting higher level items gives a higher chance for higher level crafting materials.

The level of items that can be fused/extracted depends on the level of the crafting profession:

    • At level 1, items level 50 and below can be extracted/fused.
    • At level 2, items level 70 and below.
    • At level 3, items level 90 and below.
    • At level 4, items level 110 and below.
    • At level 5, items level 130 and below.
    • At level 6, all items can be extracted/fused.

For fusion, Alchemist Stones are also needed. They can be bought from NPC Nack in Ardentmill for 5,000 mesos each.

  • Item level 0~30: 1 Alchemist Stone
  • Item level 31~70: 2 Alchemist Stones
  • Item level 71~120: 3 Alchemist Stones
  • Item level 121+: 4 Alchemist Stones

The potential rank of the resulting item is determined based on the potential ranks of the 2 material items. It guarantees that the resulting rank is in between the 2 ranks (inclusive of the 2 ranks, up to Unique), and has a chance of upgrading the potential/additional potential rank by 1 grade (not applied if the resulting item has no potential/additional potential respectively, or if it is already at Unique rank). For non-Reboot worlds, the Additional Potential rank is determined separately, but the resulting item must have Potential for it to gain Additional Potential.

This also means that to guarantee that the resulting item has Potential, both items used must have Potential, and to gusrantee that the resulting item has Additional Potential, both items used must have Additional Potential.

Additional Benefits[edit]

You can enjoy additional benefits that help your character directly in combat. The benefits cannot be stacked, so only 1 of the 3 benefits can be used at a time.

Alchemy
  • 2 Alchemist/Special elixir potions can be used at the same time (applies at level 1). To clarify on the special elixir potion combinations allowed:
    • 1 Sparkling Star potion + 1 Remedy/Luxury Remedy potion, where both adds different stats
    • 1 Remedy/Luxury Remedy potion + 1 Alchemist potion (description states Alchemists can drink 2 at a time)
    • 2 Alchemist potions (description states Alchemists can drink 2 at a time), where both adds different stats
Smithing
  • Gains a skill to increase Critical Damage by 3% for 40 minutes with a 60 minutes cooldown. Costs 1 Whetstone (applies only at Master Craftsman level and is removed when it drops to level 10 or increased to Meister)
  • Gains an upgraded skill to increase Critical Damage by 5% for 40 minutes with a 50 minutes cooldown. Costs 2 Whetstones (applies only at Meister level and is removed when it drops to Master Craftsman)
Accessory Crafting
  • Gains a skill to make a shield that resists 1 critical abnormal status. This shield lasts for 30 minutes with a 60 minutes cooldown. Costs 1 Magic Pebble (applies only at Master Craftsman level and is removed when it drops to level 10 or increased to Meister)
  • Gains an upgraded skill to make a shield that resists 1 critical abnormal status. This shield lasts for 40 minutes with a 60 minutes cooldown. Costs 2 Magic Pebbles (applies only at Meister level and is removed when it drops to Master Craftsman)

On top of it, when you reach Meister level, there is an overhead effect that can be toggled from the Professions window. Each crafting profession has a different effect. (Alchemy is some gold short angel, Smithing is some red bearded man, Accessory Crafting is some pink tall angel).
