In Mario Party 5, there are ten playable characters. However, Toad, Boo, and Koopa Kid are not playable in Story Mode. Koopa Kid serves as the opponent for all stages, while Toad is the player's CPU partner for a 2 vs. 2 minigame (via the VS. Spaces) if there are two Koopa Kids remaining. The playable characters in Story Mode are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, and Yoshi.
