Thankfully you don’t require any prior legal knowledge to play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. The game makes up its own rules regarding the justice system. Your defendants are Guilty until you can prove otherwise, your cases can't last longer than three days and if you annoy the judge too much, he'll find your clients guilty, resulting in a "Game Over", so be sure to save often.
It's a good idea to read through the Getting Started, Controls, and even the Characters pages before starting.
