The Pokemon League in the Unova region is located here, in the region's far north at the end of Victory Road.

The League has a central plaza, with a Pokemon Centre outside it. It is recommended you stock up on items before, as you will not be able to leave the plaza once you have entered.

Your Pokemon should probably be at least level 55 to have a chance, and for items, you should have some Full Restores and Hyper Potions, as well as the two Max Revives you got after defeating Cheren.

Unlike in previous games, the Elite Four in Unova can be fought in any order. For the sake of this guide, we will be going from left to right.

Shauntal[edit]

The leftmost room is home to Shauntal, a writer, and a trainer of Ghost-type Pokemon. (Would we call her a ghostwriter?) Before you fight her, she will talk about the previous person who battled her, who was N. Then you can begin the fight.

  • Elite Four Shauntal
    • Cofagrigus (Lv. 48, Ghost) Psychic, Will-O-Wisp, Shadow Ball, Grass Knot
    • Jellicent (Lv. 48, Water/Ghost) Shadow Ball, Surf, Energy Ball, Brine
    • Golurk (Lv. 48, Ground/Ghost) Curse, Brick Break, Earthquake, Shadow Punch
    • Chandelure (Lv. 50, Ghost/Fire) Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Psychic, Payback

Shauntal's opener, Cofagrigus, is a defensively oriented 'mon with low speed, which can be your key to defeating it. Jellicent is also good at defense, and can be hard to take down, but exploiting one of its weakness, particularly Dark-types, which it has nothing to defend itself against.

Next comes Golurk, who is slow and can only deal physical damage. A Water-type move is useful here, as is a Pokemon with high defense.

And finally, Chandelure is also weak to Water, so you can use this to your advantage.

Grimsley[edit]

Your next opponent is Grimsley, who uses Dark-type Pokemon.

  • Elite Four Grimsley
    • Scrafty (Lv. 48, Dark/Fighting) Sand-Attack, Crunch, Poison Jab, Brick Break
    • Krookodile (Lv. 48, Ground/Dark) Crunch, Dragon Claw, Foul Play, Earthquake
    • Liepard (Lv. 48, Dark) Fake Out, Attract, Aerial Ace, Night Slash
    • Bisharp (Lv. 50, Dark/Steel) X-Scissor, Night Slash, Metal Claw, Aerial Ace

All of Grimsley's Pokemon are weak to Fighting-type attacks, in particular Bisharp which takes four times the damage. You can also use a Bug-type Pokemon, however both will be threatened by Liepard and Bisharp, who both know Aerial Ace. If you have Emboar, there is an additional threat in the form of Krookodile and its Earthquake. And finally, consider using a female Pokemon on Liepard to avoid Attract.

Caitlin[edit]

After this comes the third Elite Four member, Caitlin, who also appeared in the Battle Frontier in HeartGold/SoulSilver. She uses Psychic-type Pokemon, and is sleeping when you first enter her room.

  • Elite Four Caitlin
    • Reuniclus (Lv. 48, Psychic) Energy Ball, Thunder, Focus Blast, Psychic
    • Sigilyph (Lv. 48, Psychic/Flying) Air Slash, Shadow Ball, Ice Beam, Psychic
    • Musharna (Lv. 48, Psychic) Shadow Ball, Psychic, Charge Beam, Reflect
    • Gothitelle (Lv. 50, Psychic) Calm Mind, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Shadow Ball

All Caitlin's Pokemon share the move Psychic, and are prepared with significant type coverage, Sigilyph in particular. A Dark-type Pokemon is the obvious choice, but is threatened by Reuniclus's Focus Blast. A Ghost-type could also have some power, but watch out for super-effective Shadow Ball. Bug-types will do 2x damage on everything except Sigilyph.

Marshal[edit]

Your final opponent in the Elite Four is Marshal, who uses Fighting-type Pokemon.

  • Elite Four Marshal
    • Throh (Lv. 48, Fighting) Stone Edge, Payback, Bulldoze, Storm Throw
    • Sawk (Lv. 48, Fighting) Stone Edge, Karate Chop, Grass Knot, Retaliate
    • Conkeldurr (Lv. 48, Fighting) Stone Edge, Hammer Arm, Retaliate, Grass Knot
    • Mienshao (Lv. 50, Fighting) U-turn, Jump Kick, Rock Slide, Retaliate

Marshal is arguably the hardest of the Elite Four in Unova. As is to be expected, his Pokemon are all pure Fighting-type, and physically oriented. They also cover types well: a Flying-type can be met with Rock attacks from all four, and Psychic-types can get knocked over by Mienshao's U-turn. TM40 (Aerial Ace) is your best friend here, many Pokemon can learn it, and it does good damage.

The Champion's Temple[edit]

Now that you have defeated the Elite Four, go to the statue in the centre of the League area. The statue works as a lift, transporting you to the Champion's Temple. Inside is regional champion Alder, and N. It appears that N has already fought Alder, and won against him, marking the first deviation from the formula: there's no Champion battle, instead it's the climax against Team Plasma.

Soon, a giant temple rises from under the ground! This is N's Castle.

N's Castle[edit]

This incredibly large castle is Team Plasma's base, built in secret and hidden underneath the Pokemon League. As you enter, six of the Seven Sages will try to attack you, but then the gym leaders appear, with the exception of Chili, Cilan, and Cress: Bianca tried to reach them, but nothing happened.

Now, enter the main castle area. It's possible to heal your Pokemon on the second floor.

There are many rooms with Team Plasma Grunts talking about their plans, but enter the fifth floor and go into the Throne Room.

Throne Room (legendaries and trainer battles)[edit]

N is in the centre of the room, and calls Zekrom (in Black) or Reshiram (in White), and evaporates the water. All of a sudden, the Light/Dark Stone jumps out of your bag and is revived in the form of Reshiram (in Black) or Zekrom (in White). You will now battle the legendary.

Black version:

  • Reshiram (Lv. 50, Dragon/Fire) DragonBreath, Slash, Extrasensory, Fusion Flare
  • Zekrom (Lv. 50, Dragon/Electric) DragonBreath, Slash, Zen Headbutt, Fusion Bolt

This legendary battle isn't as hard as for most legendaries. Ultra Balls are probably the best, or a Quick Ball on the first turn: it's worth saving your Master Ball for another legendary, like Kyurem.

Once the legendary is caught, it's time to battle N!

  • Team Plasma N
    • (Black version)
      • Zekrom (Lv. 52, Dragon/Electric) Fusion Bolt, Zen Headbutt, Giga Impact, Light Screen
    • (White version)
      • Reshiram (Lv. 52, Dragon/Fire) Hyper Beam, Fusion Flare, Extrasensory, Reflect
    • (regardless)
      • Klinklang (Lv. 50, Steel) Flash Cannon, Metal Sound, Hyper Beam, Thunderbolt
      • Zoroark (Lv. 50, Dark) Flamethrower, Focus Blast, Night Slash, Retaliate
      • Carracosta (Lv. 50, Water/Rock) Stone Edge, Waterfall, Aqua Jet, Crunch
      • Archeops (Lv. 50, Rock/Flying) Stone Edge, Crunch, Dragon Claw, Acrobatics
      • Vanilluxe (Lv. 50, Ice) Blizzard, Hail, Frost Breath, Flash Cannon
  • Pokebuck.png 10,000

The first round will be one dragon against the other: it's best to apply damage using the super-effective DragonBreath. After that, his remaining five Pokemon can be defeated using a single strategy. If you have Emboar, this fight shouldn't be so much of a problem, two of his remaining Pokemon are weak to fire, and all but Archeops are weak to Fighting-type attacks. For Archeops, use a strong Electric-type.

After you defeat N, Ghetsis will appear, revealing that the Pokemon-rights angle of Team Plasma was merely a front: he wanted people to release their Pokemon, leaving them defenseless, and making him able to take over the Unova region. Ghetsis will then fight you.

  • Team Plasma Ghetsis
    • Cofagrigus (Lv. 52, Ghost) Toxic, Psychic, Protect, Shadow Ball
    • Bouffalant (Lv. 52, Normal) Earthquake, Head Charge, Wild Charge, Poison Jab
    • Seismitoad (Lv. 52, Water/Ground) Sludge Wave, Muddy Water, Earthquake, Rain Dance
    • Bisharp (Lv. 52, Dark/Steel) Stone Edge, X-Scissor, Night Slash, Metal Burst
    • Eelektross (Lv. 52, Electric) Crunch, Acrobatics, Flamethrower, Wild Charge
    • Hydreigon (Lv. 54, Dark/Dragon) Surf, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, Dragon Pulse
  • Pokebuck.png 9,720

Ghetsis is considerably harder than N, as the final boss of the game. The main theme throughout his battle is type coverage: Seismitoad can strike back at Grass-types with Poison Jab, Bouffalant is incredibly physically-oriented (take a Pokemon with good Defense, and some Fighting-type moves), Cofagrigus can poison and take further advantage, Bisharp is also heavily physical (but can go down quickly with its 4x weakness to Fighting-type attacks) and Eelektross has no weaknesses at all with its ability Levitate.

But the real problem comes with his ace, Hydreigon. It has four weakness, but that does not make it any weaker. Emboar will be met with Surf, Ice-types will go down in a quick Fire Blast or Focus Blast, and using your legendary dragon can be problematic as he has the super-effective Dragon Pulse. It's worth simply attacking it until it goes down.

Once you defeat Ghetsis, he will be taken by Alder and Cheren into custody, and then the credits will begin. You see N flying on a dragon, and then when the credits are over, you arrive back in Nuvema Town.
