Having completed your expedition to Glittering Cave and obtained a new fossil Pokemon out of it, you can now continue your journey to Cyllage City through Muraille Coast. In contrast to the grassy and muddy pits of the cliffs, the lower area of Route 8 is a pristine beach. With such a long coastline, it's a great place to start practicing your fishing. Lots of valuable items wash up on the beach, but you'll need more than a keen eye to spot these collectibles.

Coastal treasures[edit]

Upon exiting the Ambrette Aquarium, you are now in the lower part of Route 8. While your objective is to travel north, go around the coastline to the west and south to wrap back down to a secluded part of Ambrette Town to find a Pearl that you can sell for good money. Search the area southwest of the trio of breakable rocks to find a Rare Candy. Now it's time to head north. Go up and left to find a tall berry tree that drops Mago Berries weekly. Mago Berries heal 1/8ths of your Pokemon's health, but may confuse your Pokemon if they dislike sweet berries. Northwest of the Mago Berry, you can find a Sky Trainer standing on a small island.

Stick to the cliffs and continue north to find a swimmer. Talk to her to get a Dowsing Machine! This helpful item creates two rods that point forward and at various angles if there's a hidden item nearby. The closer you get to the item, the further the two rods get. Once they intersect, you've found the item! Incidentally, you can use the Dowsing Machine to find a hidden Pearl south of the swimmer. More Pearls occasionally wash up on this spot, so check back often if you want to make some extra money. You can find other respawning hidden items like a Heart Scale or Stardust, both of which can be found by using the Dowsing Rod south of the Mago Berry tree. Finally, search the rocks north of the stairs to find a hidden 'Ultra Ball.

Proceed north to find several trainers. You will encounter some female swimmers who will challenge you on sight. There are also some fisherman you can battle by talking to them. Hug the cliff and you can find a Sky Trainer challenging you from way up high.

Surfing by the coast[edit]

Once you can make use of Surf, you can travel on the shallow seas along Route 8. There isn't a lot of things to find here, but enough to make exploration worth your time. First, look around for a large, sandy island with a conspicuous rock in the middle. You will find a Heart Scale from the rock at the center. Next, head north from the island to reach some more shallow water, where you can find TM19 Roost at the center. This move can be taught to most airborne Pokemon, healing half of their health but removing their Flying typing if present. There are also two swimmers going around the northern islands.
