Yamazaki Extermination (山崎殲滅戦) is the name given to the battle that takes place in the territory of Mitsuhide Akechi, a vassal of Nobunaga Oda. While his army is impressive in size, Mitsuhide himself rarely distinguishes between friend or foe, attacking either as he pleases. Therefore, his army acts mostly out of fear of their leader, though this does nothing to diminish their power. In fact, they're more than willing to rush to the defense of their leader, a trait that comes into play in the latter half of the map.

Strategy[edit]

On the bridge is the first tamatebako, dropped by a squad leader. On the other side of the bridge is an open area guarded by shielded soldiers. There are three squad leaders in this area; the one to the left drops Basara and the one to the right drops a tamatebako. The final squad leader, who also drops a tamatebako, guards the gate. Defeating him gives you access to another open area, and triggers an optional objective. Start running across the bridge as soon as you can for a chance to clear it, especially if you are playing a slower character.

To clear the optional objective, you must approach Mitsuhide before he can reach the spot on the map marked with a yellow X. To reach him more quickly, take the shortcut that can be accessed by opening the second gate rather than taking the long way around. Once you are close enough to him that he enters your field of vision, Mitsuhide will turn his attention to you, triggering his introductory scene and halting the pursuit.

Though engaging Mitsuhide in a fight will allow you to clear the stage quickly, for more rewards, backtrack to the squad leaders that were previously ignored. Defeating them while Mitsuhide attacks may be difficult, so if you are looking to collect more rewards rather than clear the stage quickly, it may be best to ignore the optional objective altogether.

Boss: Mitsuhide Akechi[edit]

The difficulty of the boss fight with Mitsuhide is determined by whether or not you are able to complete the optional objective, catching him before he can reach his destination. If he is able to reach his destination before you can intercept him, he will be defended by a large number of newly-summoned squad leaders intent on protecting him. If not, he will be isolated; since his movement speed is slow, you would have the clear advantage in this case. For more information on his attack patterns, see the boss description for Mitsuhide's other map, Incident at Honno-ji. Defeat Mitsuhide to claim his territory.
