StrategyWiki:Countervandalism

From StrategyWiki, the video game walkthrough and strategy guide wiki

This page exists to collect and refine ideas to implement to help stave off vandalism in StrategyWiki. Also, any issue regarding anonymous edits is welcome here as well

Proposed ideas[edit]

These are ideas that are new and haven't been taken by anyone yet. Please add your ideas to this list with the following format:

=== Name of idea ===
Description of idea.

All registered users are welcome to voice their opinion about these ideas as well as give suggestions for improvement, etc.

IRC Recentchanges feed[edit]

Have a dedicated IRC Channel where a bot puts out the diffs of all edits or just suspicious edits (whichever, but having only the suspicious ones would be nice) with helpful links such as undo, rollback, block, delete, and mark as patrolled.

Assigned ideas[edit]

These ideas have been taken to be worked on by various administrators. If you are not an administrator, please do not assign ideas to yourself. Also, do not assign something to yourself unless you are definitely going to complete it.

Semiprotecting community pages[edit]

Semiprotecting pages that should be reserved for the community to edit (such as Community Portal and Community Issues).

Completed ideas[edit]

These ideas have been completed and implemented on StrategyWiki.

Forcing anon previews[edit]

Topic says it all. Anonymous users must use "Show preview" before the "Save page" button becomes available to them. Doable via javascript or an extension, both with their pros and cons.

Done with javascript on MediaWiki:Common.js (link is to readable version). --  Safety Skizzerz {{ Talk | Contribs | Spel Chek™ | VFG | RTFM }} 15:43, 11 January 2008 (CST)

Anon edit notice[edit]

Not really a cvn issue, but having a notice given only to anons when they edit a page containing descriptions and helpful links.

Done using MediaWiki:Anoneditwarning. --  Safety Skizzerz {{ Talk | Contribs | Spel Chek™ | VFG | RTFM }} 15:43, 11 January 2008 (CST)

Emergency revocation of anon rights[edit]

Follow directions here to see how to revoke rights of anonymous users (such as edit if we are getting a spamflood). This should only be used in emergency situations, and only temporarily!

Extension created and tested, works perfectly :). --  Safety Skizzerz {{ Talk | Contribs | Spel Chek™ | VFG | RTFM }} 19:04, 11 January 2008 (CST)

CAPTCHAS[edit]

Adding a CAPTCHA to all anonymous edits containing external links. Will help stave off linkspam by bots. Also, add captcha to account creation.

reCAPTCHA intalled by PowerMatt (talk · contribs). Triggers on anonymous users creating accounts and anonymous edits adding new external links.

Discarded ideas[edit]

These ideas may be great, but they just don't fit our current situation. Generally stagnant ideas sitting in the proposed section will be moved down here.
