Welcome to all users! This page is where you can ask StrategyWiki-related questions to the staff and senior community figures, and they will do their best to answer. If you want to raise a topic for discussion (rather than just ask about it), please use the community issues forum instead. New issues are entered here, with the most recent at the bottom of the page. If your question does not pertain to editing StrategyWiki (e.g. asking for hints or game-specific information), please ask on the guide's talk page or on the forums.

Please review the Table of Contents to see if your issue has already been raised; also check the archives (to the right) in case it was discussed some time ago.

To facilitate ease of browsing and replying, please:

  1. Place your question at the bottom of the list.
  2. Title the question (by placing the title between equals signs: ==Title==).
  3. Sign your name and date (by adding four tildes: ~~~~).

DBZ Budokai, Budokai 2, and Budokai 3 Movesets

I was going to add the movesets for all the characters in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 1, 2, and 3, but I've run into a snag. I don't know which of the various move list templates posted here to use for the games and I don't want to pick the wrong one. Since the games are not arcade games, would I use a different template or would I use one that IS used in an arcade moveset page, say like the one shown in the pages for Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha? -- JeffMandM (talk) 15:24, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

The moves set issue is a little up for debate. I personally don't mind having a couple of different templates to choose from as long as the template chosen is consistent throughout a single game and, ideally, throughout a series. Other admins wish we would choose just one and stick with it. Since the matter hasn't been decided, you're essentially free to choose. You can either take one of the existing templates, or pioneer your own if you feel the Budokai games warrant a different approach. Let us know if you need any help. Procyon 15:52, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
Alright, then for the time being I'll see if I can't come up with a template for the Budokai games that could possibly be shared between them. What I'm most likely going to do is set up a template that will be able to switch button images for attacks depending on the console a person selects (I don't remember what you guys call that or if it's already been done) since the buttons for some attacks were swapped from their PS2 positions in the case of GCN Budokai 1 and 2. I'll post something on the forums regarding this and go from there. But for now I suppose I'll use the arcade setup. Are the buttons used in the arcade setup linked to the template at all or is it just like normal, where the images are just inserted in with the chart? Also, it looks like I can't currently register for the forums. From what I can see, it might be disabled. -- JeffMandM (talk) 16:18, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
We have a (regretably clunky) {{Control selector}} template that probably does what you're trying to accomplish. You can see an example of how it works on the Chrono_Trigger/The_Millennial_Fair page. The arcade buttons are used in the same fashion as the other system buttons, there is a {{cade}} template just like there is a {{psx}} and {{gc}} template for PlayStation and GameCube buttons respectively. And yeah, the forums were disabled due to lack of use :( Our community has shrunk a bit since SW began. That's something I'd like to see reverse, but no one works on SW as a full-time job, it's just a hobby for most of us. Procyon 16:27, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
I probably could see if I could try to improve the current control selector or do a rehash of it as well for that purpose. However, that depends on whether or not I get the time to learn how to use the design language this site uses. I assume it's a variant on CSS? -- JeffMandM (talk) 17:06, 9 December 2015 (UTC)

Final Fantasy 3 Dogas Manor

I have been playing this on my Nintendo ds and have followed the walk through. When I reached Dogas Manor and entered, the waalk through says I should run into a cut scene and yet nothing happens.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Johnwayne19 (talkcontribs) .

Could I "re-edit" a page which hasn't been edited for a long time?

I want to "re-edit" the Ratatouille game. The game's walkthrough is kinda too simple (not many useful details), not many images,... and it hasn't been edited for a long time - 4 years... So may I have the permission to re-edit it? Thanks!

P/s: I really appreciate the first editors and what they've done. --James Sunderland (talk) 04:09, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

Adding Pictures to Controller Templates

Is it possible for me to add more buttons and directional inputs to the existing controller templates? I noticed that some of them are missing diagonals for D-pads or rotations for analog sticks. Antwan (talk) 14:33, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Kind of curious what you need diagonal D-pad inputs for? They're not easy to represent. You could either do something like Right dpad+Down dpad ( {{nes|Right|Dpad}}{{plus}}{{nes|Down|Dpad}} ) or Arcade-Stick-DR.png ( {{cade|DR}} ). And what do you mean by rotations for analog sticks? Like rolling the stick 360 degrees? It's not for analog sticks, but we have Arcade-Stick-360.png ( {{cade|360}} ); {{cade}} is mostly used for fighting games. Procyon 21:19, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
The game I'm writing a guide for doesn't use the analog sticks for play, only the D-pad and there are moves that use diagonals. I was thinking of using something like down and right together, but I feared that people would misinterpret that as "press down, then right" instead of "press down-right". Antwan (talk) 00:15, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
Would you consider using the {{cade}} template for those directions? I know it's not very d-pad looking, but it does remove the ambiguity. I don't know if you need quarter or half circles as well, but they're provided, mostly because of Street Fighter games. If that doesn't suit your needs, let me know, we'll figure something out. Procyon 03:01, 28 January 2016 (UTC)
That's fine, I'll go with that then for now. Thank you. Antwan (talk) 04:49, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Whale broken?

I've been using the Whale skin ever since it was the default, but now I'm having problems. The show TOC button in the Header Nav and Footer Nav usually isn't appearing. The preferences page is also placing everything in one long line instead of using the tabs. Is this Whale's problem or my computer/browser's problem? In the mean time, I'm trying out Dolphin. --Flufftailer (talk) 02:50, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi Flufftailer, Prod (talk · contribs) recently pushed a new version of MediaWiki to the site, and while we extensively tested out Dolphin, we didn't really give Whale a thorough check. I'll alert him to the issue, thanks for bringing it to our attention. Procyon 03:01, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Please try clearing your browser cache, since you may be getting some of the old js/css. There are a few bugs in the whale skin, but Show/Hide should be working properly. -- Prod (talk) 03:20, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

I signed out and cleared my browser cache. Initially pages don't display the show button, but if I refresh the page, the show button appears and stays there if I come back. This is probably a my side problem. However, while you're fixing bugs, I just want to point out that the Go button has been sitting on the Search button for months. --Flufftailer (talk) 22:22, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Because of the new way 1.26 loads things, sometimes it takes a second for all the javascript to load/run, so the show/hide links don't show up until the end.
I'll take a look at the go button, let me know if you notice any other issues. Thanks for the report! -- Prod (talk) 22:56, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Edits not registering

So I was trying to edit this this page, but my edit simply fails to show up. I think it may be due to too much data in one page, or some odd bug with session data? I've tried to make several test edits, but to no avail either. T.testLP(talk) 16:47, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Is this still the case TTLP? I see your edits just fine. Or at least I think I do, assuming what's in RC is everything you've tried to do so far. This could be a browser cache issue, since we recently updated to the latest MediaWiki. Try a few different browsers if you can, and let us know if you're still having a problem. Procyon 17:11, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
Your edits are appearing on Pokémon X and Y/Species Strategies (Generation I Families). It's the letter "I" rather than the number "1". Perhaps there's a misspelled inbound link somewhere? --Sigma 7 (talk) 17:20, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Oh holy crap my edits just suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I suspect it may be a weird browser cache bug, because they weren't showing it at all. Sorry for all the postsT.testLP(talk) 19:08, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

Banned user plea

I have moved the plea recently place here by a banned user to his user talk page. Any user is free to leave a comment there if they wish. The staff has decided to ignore all comments by this particular user, and will not be responding to it. Under no circumstances will this user's editing privileges be restored. Procyon 03:40, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

RK here I need to hear everyone, instead of Procyon say it. I apologized to you all will everyone allow me back. I hope to be an awesome writer like everyone on here. I would love to come back please consider it. -- 50.141.110.230 05:56, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
Pretty sure you should contact a senior admin rather than making messages to random targets, and they prefer if you actually keep promises rather than trying to mask edit warring by logging out. --104.247.236.48 07:46, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
