Members of the Stubs project work to create basic pages for all content within the StrategyWiki's scope. You can join this project by adding [[Category:Stubs project members]] to the bottom of your user page.

Focus[edit]

The goal of this project is to expand the basic content of StrategyWiki to entice readers and give them a place to contribute and polish our content. As our audience is heavily influenced by search engine results, it is vital that we have a basic platform for viewers to go to and help with. If we don't have a page for a game they are looking for, they will never come here. Let's get more people involved!

But why don't we just rely on new users to create the guides they want to see here?[edit]

New users are mostly looking for help with the game they are playing. If it's not there, they will look elsewhere. If we are lucky, a basic page will entice a new user because they feel like we are a good site to contribute to. We are a good choice because we are established and anonymous editing is quick and easy.

Also, some editors have full guides written but are looking for a place to put them. If we have an alternative to sites that they don't like, then they may place their completed guide here.

How to help[edit]

To aid these new users, they need a place to fill in content. The basic types of pages most important on StrategyWiki at this time are:

The below sections are used to strategize how to quickly make these stubs.

Main game pages[edit]

Main game pages are the most important stub to work with. You can find more info on how to flesh out a main page by looking here: StrategyWiki:Guide/Main game page. The long-term goal is to get the "Present %" statistic for every console to 100%, as seen on the StrategyWiki:Guide completion table, meaning all games have at least a stub here at StrategyWiki.

Here's how to quickly make a main game page so that no one else has to add content to it:

  1. Determine the correct title for the game.
    • This is really important. It can take a lot of correction if the wrong name is used, and it will cause an argument if you don't have your rationale correct. Luckily, most titles are a no brainer, like Super Mario Bros.. Foreign titles are much harder to determine. Many exclusive Japanese titles transliterated into English end up with non-standard StrategyWiki:Guide/Main game page#Japanese exclusive titles grammar rules that we have decided upon here at StrategyWiki. The best thing to do is just make games off of the StrategyWiki:Guide completion lists. That way, if a naming conflict occurs you will also be aware of the name on the list that needs to be corrected.
  2. Find the page.
    • You can get to a new game's empty page by either by clicking a link (e.g. on a Guide completion list) or by changing the URL of your browser to take you there. If you are not sure how to adjust your URL, please ask Notmyhandle. The non-URL way to get to a page is by going to any page, clicking edit, then make a link like [[Page you want to go to]]. Then hit preview at the bottom, and it will show up as Page you want to go to.
  3. Create the page using the preload button.
    • When you get to an empty page, you will see a message like "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or edit this page." Click on the "edit this page" or press the "Create" tab at the top right of the page. Then you can start editing. Before you put anything in there, click the preload button labeled "Main game page".
