OOT skulltula.jpg

Many years ago, a wealthy family in Kakariko Village was cursed for their greed and were thus turned into Skulltula monsters. In order to break the curse, Link must destroy all one hundred of the Gold Skulltulas scattered about Hyrule and collect the Gold Skulltula Tokens that they drop as proof of his deed. When a certain number of Gold Skulltulas have been destroyed, a family member will return to human form and reward Link for his trouble.

Quest Rewards

As you defeat Gold Skulltulas, each family member released from the curse will reward Link. These rewards are:

# Defeated Reward
10 Adult's Wallet: Holds up to 200 rupees.
20 Stone of Agony: Rumbles when you run over secret holes. In the 3DS version, this is replaced by the Shard of Agony, which chimes and appears in the top-left corner of the top screen when near secret locations.
30 Giant's Wallet: Holds up to 500 rupees.
40 Ten Bombchus: A rare type of bomb that runs along the ground, and crawls up walls and ceilings.
50 Heart Piece: One-fourth of a Heart Container.
100 Huge Rupee: A huge, golden rupee worth 200 rupees. Each time you visit the man, he will give you another one, so effectively it is a limitless supply of rupees.

If you are playing on the Wii's Virtual Console, the Stone of Agony will be totally useless. Anyone playing this version can safely ignore this feature. The GameCube version will ask you if you want to use the rumble feature (unless you're playing with the Wavebird, which renders this item useless). In the 3DS version, the Stone of Agony is replaced by the Shard of Agony, which chimes and appears in the top-left corner of the top screen when near secret locations.

Hunting Tips

Gold Skulltulas are scattered throughout the game world and can be found as both young and adult Link. Most often, Gold Skulltulas can be found at night, either clinging to walls or hiding in soft patches of soil. Here are some tips for hunting them:

Hunt at night

Many Gold Skulltulas don't appear during the daytime. You should play the Sun Song on your ocarina to change the time of day before beginning your search.

Use your ears

Gold Skulltulas make a distinct "shuffling" sound every few seconds when they move around. The sound can alert you to the presence of a nearby Skulltula, although it is difficult to use to pinpoint the creature's exact location.

Check your map

After you have defeated all the Gold Skulltulas in an area, a Gold Skulltula icon will appear next to the name of your current location on the map screen. If you don't see it, then there are still more Gold Skulltulas to find in the area.

  • Note: The world map DOES NOT cover Gold Skulltulas in Temples, Dungeons, the Kakariko Well or the Ice Cavern. To check if you have collected all tokens in those areas, you must enter that specific area and check the map of place.

Check common hiding spots

Nintendo 64
After releasing the captured bugs, quickly press the Down c button again. This will capture one of the three bugs you just released so you can re-use them later.

A Gold Skulltula resides in every patch of soft soil in Hyrule except for the one next to the bean selling man in Zora's River. To evict the Skulltula from its burrow, release a captured bug nearby.

To capture bugs, look for rocks on the ground as they have the highest rate of causing bugs to appear. Pick up these rocks to release the bugs underneath and then quickly capture one with a bottle. You can also find bugs by cutting grass.

Gold Skulltulas can also be found inside crates and trees. Roll into either one to dislodge a Skulltula.

If on a wall or far away, Gold Skulltulas can only be reached with certain items, namely the Boomerang and Hookshot. When hunting, be sure you have both items.

Master Quest

The locations of Gold Skulltulas in the dungeons were changed in the Master Quest version of Ocarina of Time. There is a section for the differently located Skulltula's after the full list for the regular Ocarina of Time game. If you follow the whole guide, there are also links down to the Master Quest locations in the dungeon's section.

Gold Skulltula Locations

The following is a complete list of the locations of the 100 Gold Skulltulas scattered about Hyrule. For an easier to follow guide, we suggest searching walkthroughs on YouTube.

Then, Hookshot onto the roof of Impa's house. This is easier with the Longshot, but it can be done without. As a child, at the summit of Death Mountain is Kaepora Gaebora. Talk to him, and he will fly you back to Kakariko, placing you atop Impa's house.

Go to the spot where you used to a Bomb Flower to unblock Dodongo Cavern, and look for a red rock. Destroy it with the Megaton Hammer to uncover a Skulltula.

33. Adult, nighttime
Go to the climbable wall near the summit of Death Mountain. At the base of the wall is another red rock concealing a Skulltula. It is possible to get this Skulltula without breaking the rock by first spin attacking, with magic, near the rock to kill the Skulltula hidden beneath. Position Link so that he is facing away from the rock, but with his back facing the crack between the wall and the rock. Perform a backflip to fall into the rock just far enough to get the token.

Goron City

34. Child

38. Child

41. Child (Boomerang)/Adult
After activating the pillar elevator, exit and then reenter the dungeon and ride it to the second floor. Make your way around the second floor until you reach the room with the staircase, which should now be in its original position. Take the path to the left (west) and you'll find a climbable wall on the side of the staircase allowing you to reach the alcove with the Skulltula. Alternatively, return as an adult and simply use the Longshot to obtain the token.

42. Adult/Child*
Enter this dungeon as an adult, after having learned the Scarecrow's Song. Go to the corridor before your first Lizalfos battle as a child. There is an alcove here that will attract Navi when you look at it. Play the Scarecrow's Song to make Pierre appear, and then Hookshot him to find the Skulltula.

Alternatively, you can also push/pull one of the statues within this room over to the alcove. You can use the statue to help adult link jump up and grab hold of the ledge and climb up.

  • It is possible to obtain this token as a child by using the above statue strategy, although this method is somewhat difficult to pull off. You must push one of the statues to the alcove, but then push it all the way over to wall opposite the alcove. You can then backflip onto the statue and use some well-placed Slingshot shots to just barely clear the ledge and hit the Skulltula. After the token appears, you can grab the token with an aimed Boomerang throw, as it will be too far away to Z-target.

Zora's River

43. Child
At the start of the river, where you met the owl and have to blow up the boulders in the way, roll into the tree at the left to knock out a Skulltula. Kill it with your sword and grab the token.

44. Child, nighttime
At the top of the river, drop down into the shallow water and walk to the ladder. The Skulltula is on the ladder. Kill it with the Slingshot or Boomerang, then climb up to collect the token.

45. Adult, nighttime
As you enter Zora's River, venture up to where the bean seller used to be and cross the river. Walk down the pathway about 60 feet, and then look high up on the south wall. Take the Skulltula down with your Longshot (Hookshot isn't long enough).

Alternatively, you can use the Hookshot to retrieve the Skulltula if you planted the beans in the hole next to where the bean seller used to be as a child. Ride the platform and jump off once you reach the tall middle area or you can go down the river and climb the ladder in the narrow pathway to get to the tall middle area, and the Skulltula will be within reach.

46. Adult, nighttime
As you approach the curve that leads to the entrance to Zora's Domain, stand on the final "bridge" and face the entrance. Turn around and you'll see the Gold Skulltula high up on the wall. Use your Hookshot to take it down.

The Skulltula is shielded by a transparent wall, so you'll have to throw the boomerang around it.

In the room before Barinade, climb up the vines in the middle of the room. Behind a small wall of web you will see the Skulltula. Stand in the very center of the platform and throw your boomerang at the Gold Skulltula.

Forest Temple

Located above the first locked door.

61. Adult
On the bottom floor around the corner in the room with the giant stone blocks.

62. Adult
In the Western Courtyard above the well.

63. Adult
In the Eastern Courtyard on the hookshot spot above the entrance.

64. Adult
Inside the well on the bars next to the entrance leading to the Western Courtyard.

Fire Temple

65. On the first floor, in the room with the bridge leading over the lava, open the Goron's cell door and then find the Skulltula behind him.
66. In the big room with all the Lizalfos, there is a false wall behind which you can hit a switch to reveal several Hookshot targets. Use those to get up onto the platform with a huge crack on top and play the Song of Time. Make your way onto the blue block that appears and use the Hookshot to get to the elevator the leads to the floor above. Continue from here until you reach a room with a rusted switch that triggers more Hookshot targets. Hit that and then the non-rusted switch to dissipate the fire and Hookshot up to it to move the block and reveal a Skulltula.
67. In the area made up of a maze of fire walls (from which you hammer the pillar down to attain access to Volvagia's lair), jump across to the square platform that held the large block and again from here to the opposite ledge. Standing near that door, play the Song of Time to make a blue block appear. Climb onto the block and leap well from it to clear the nearby fire walls. Enter the NW door along the wall here and fight the Lizalfos. A Skulltula will be waiting on the back wall.
68. In the fire maze room, follow the maze. You should pass through a couple of doors to the other side. Keep navigating the maze until you reach a switch that temporarily dissipates the flames blocking the eastern door, then run over and head inside. Proceed through the rooms that follow. Eventually you should find yourself in a tiny compartment directly over the fire maze room from which you came. Claim the Skulltula there.
69. In the fire maze room, enter the door (by which you play the Song of Time in 67) to the central room. Use the Hookshot to cross the fire to the other side. Hit the rusty switch with the Megaton Hammer, then climb the the target beside the switch to jump over the fire wall to get down to the lower corridor. Here you can bomb a false wall to reveal the final Skulltula.

Ice Cavern

70. Adult, Song of Time
In the room with the compass, blue flame, and heart piece, there is a red/orange ice block on one of the pillars with a skulltula in it. Get some blue flame with an empty bottle and go by that pillar. Play the Song of Time twice to make 2 blocks appear. Climb up there and use the blue flame.

71. Adult, Scarecrow's Song
In the top left square room on the map there is a ledge to the right right when you enter. Walk up to it and Navi should turn green and fly up there. Play the Scarecrow's Song and the scarecrow will come up. Hookshot up there and at the very back on the bottom left with be the skulltula.

72. Adult
In the same room as the last skulltula there will be a ledge with a bunch of red/orange ice blocks on it. Right at the wall underneath the ledge the skulltula will be on the ground.

Water Temple

73. Need Fire Arrows. After you get the fire arrows go back into the water temple and enter the south room/corridor. At the end of the corridor on a wall there are three torches. Light them and the grated up area will open. Use the scarecrow song to longshot to the upper part of the room and the Skulltula is on the ceiling of where it was closed off.
74. In the room with the pool and the whirlpools, play the scarecrow's song and Pierre wil appear. Longshot onto him. You will notice a door blocked off by a chain. Go towards the waterfall and put on the Iron Boots and go in the hole. You'll eventually arrive in a small room with crates and a Stulfo. Fight it and then break the crates. One of them has a small key. Use it on the door you saw earlier and you will arrive in a room with a switch and unlit torches. Hit the switch, get on the middle water pillar (for lack of a better term) and use Din's Fire. The torches will light and you can advance to the next room. But it's still not over! Kill all the Dodongos in the room (fire-breathing lizards in the Water Temple... that makes sense!) and Longshot up to the door that just opened. You will be back in the pool room. Break the crate with the Gold Skulltula but leave at least one crate alone. You will need it to Longshot your way out of the little trapped space, and voilà!
75. After making your way through the big square room on the third floor you will drop down through an open grate to the second floor. In the next section, the river current is really strong and there are several whirlpools so you will have to use the long shot to move from one pillar to the next. There is a Gold Skulltula on the wall, you can`t miss it!
76. On the second floor, step on the yellow button switch to open up the gate leading to the south corridor. Walk past the wood crates and straight towards another gate. Use Din`s Fire to light the torch that is on the inside. The Gold Skulltula is hiding behind the two wooden crates.
77.In the room that opens with the blue switch follow the room until you are at the top before the last water level switch. The Skulltula is in a box.

Bottom of the Well

78. In the center area where you picked up the dungeon map, enter the northeastern room. Kill the enemies and pull back the grave to reveal the Gold Skulltula.
79. At the very bottom of the dungeon, take the northernmost path. It contains several invisible monsters which you can run around. At the very end of that passage is the Gold Skulltula.
80. Go to the westernmost room (you'll need a spare Small Key). The Gold Skulltula is hidden behind the right bird statue (you can use the Lens of Truth to spot it right away).

Shadow Temple

81. In the room with the falling spikes, inside the southern cell.
82. In the room full of Redeads (with a treasure chest), crawling on the wall.
83. Shortly before the ship, in the room with the two Gibdos, bomb the rubble in the northwest to reveal the Gold Skulltula.
OoTMQ-ShadowSkulltula4.jpg84. Hidden inside the bottomless pit you cross using the bird statue. Walk halfway through and look back to see it.
85. Hanging along an invisible platform just before the boss door.

Spirit Temple

96. Adult
In the room with the blocks with sun faces. Return here as an adult and push the southeast block into the light. Use the new platform to reach the Gold Skulltula.
97. Adult
In the sandpit room, crawling on the ceiling.
98. Adult
In the room with lots of Skulltulas, on the east wall.
99. Adult
