Roofs are probably the most important component of any shelter. Even if you don't have any walls or the other structural features that make up a shelter, a roof will at least protect your Sims from the elements, allowing them to sleep without getting woken up by bad weather. Higher-quality roofs need Mechanical Skill. Cabin roofs need lots of rope. Bungalow roofs need the chisel tool and lots of clay.
