Needs are the necessities of both Sims and pets, which reflect their overall mood. If these needs are not meet, these characters will become unhappy. Playable Sims have eight following needs:

  • Bladder — fulfilled by reliving on a toilet, or having an "accident". The latter happens when the need gets to low, leaving a puddle and tanking the Sim's Hygiene need.
  • Comfort — fulfilled by sitting on a couch, relaxing or sleeping in a bed.
  • Energy – fulfilled by sleeping. Expensive beds have higher energy rating, which helps replenish the need faster. If the need to low, the Sim will pass out and thereby only refill it half way through
  • Fun – fulfilled by reading a book or newspaper, watching TV, dancing, and etc.
  • Hunger: which is fulfilled by eating and drinking. Meals prepared on expensive appliances and with higher cooking help replenish the need faster. Interestingly, neglecting the motive doesn't leave the Sim knocked out.
  • Hygiene – fulfilled by showering, taking a bath or getting in a hot spring. Washing hands also rises the need, but not as much as the main methods.
  • Room – gratified by being in a cleaned well-decorated room or space. It's the only need that doesn't decrease, nor gradually builds up. Objects that have a Room rating score (with most being available in Decoration tab) will increase its level by bit.
  • Social – fulfilled by socializing with Sims, either in person, pranking them over the phone, or by chatting through a computer. Interacting with Pets also fulfill the need.
