According to the Ultima philosophy, Deceit is the opposite of Honesty. The virtue of Honesty comes from the principle of Truth, and its opposite is Falsehood. Therefore, Deceit derives from Falsehood.

SNES differences
All the traps are visible and all the gold nuggets were omitted. The dungeon is almost pointless.

Dungeon location: 7°N, 82°E.

Getting ready[edit]

Requirements:

  • A ship: the dungeon is on an isle east from the Shrine of Honesty.
  • Reveal lv.5 spell: it makes nearby traps visible; buy it from Xiao near the Lycaeum.
  • Vanish lv.3 spell: it removes caltrops, that cannot be moved; buy it from Xiao near the Lycaeum.

General tips:

  • Beware of hidden traps! This dungeon is full of them.
  • You can Move bear traps.
  • You cannot move the caltrops, but you can make them vanish with magic.
  • Whenever you see a narrow passage, choose a character in solo mode to explore it, so that only one will fall in the trap.

Going down (floors 1-2-3)[edit]

Cast "Reveal" as soon as you enter the dungeon. There are three passages, but the only safe one is to the west. On floor 2, go all the way south, then get the ladder there. You are now on the large floor 3, full of traps and void of treasures. The second ladder near you are the exit from the magma pit trap (see below).

North passage (floor 4A)[edit]

From the two stairs on level 3, go east then all the way north. In the north-west dead-end there is a ladder down. Searhc the bodies there and get the following items:

  • 1 meal, mug, ring (yellow), 1 flask of oil
  • Staff, regeneration ring, protection ring

South passage (floor 4B-3B-2B-1B)[edit]

From the two stairs on level 3, go east then all the way south. In the south-west dead-end there is a ladder down. Follow the only path back to the upper levels. Enemies on floors 4-3-2 are weak acid slugs and slimes. On floor 1 cast reveal and see 24 traps! From the south one or more demons will attack you: use a storm cloak or the lv.6 spell "Negate". You can get 38 gold nuggets here.

Pit trap loop (floors 4C-3C-2C)[edit]

You can fall in from the pit holes on the west part of the third level. Follow the only path available, and you will end back to the start of floor 3, where the two nearby ladders are. No treasures here.
