Welcome to StrategyWiki!

Hello Dan! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. Better late than never eh? ;). Btw, do you play MapleStory? -- Prod (Talk) 19:41, 31 January 2007 (CST)

Hey Dan, why did you change "manoeuverability" to "maneuvers at your pick" on Counter-Strike: Source/Maps/cs_assault? After your edit the sentence didn't make sense at all. --DrBob 12:00, 26 May 2006 (PDT)

Are you messing with the image server again? Cause they seem to have stopped working :/ -- Prod (Talk) 20:33, 22 January 2007 (CST)

Ah. OK. Btw, you seem to have server access, why don't you set yourself to a bureacrat or something. -- Prod (Talk) 20:46, 22 January 2007 (CST)

Naked Chicks Uploading

Are you testing the Metadata? --Notmyhandle 21:47, 27 January 2007 (CST)

Game Logos

I think it's a bit redundant to have the name of the game 3 times in the infobox. I've moved some of the images to the walkthrough pages. -- Prod (Talk) 23:04, 27 January 2007 (CST)

It might work well in the ToC. There are some guides which put pictures there (like EarthBound). To make them a usable size for the AGN would change the way the AGN looks too much I think. -- Prod (Talk) 23:16, 27 January 2007 (CST)

Contra Plot on Main Page

Hi Dan. Just FYI, we've typically left the story on the front page. See Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, and Dragon Warrior. Procyon 19:12, 2 February 2007 (CST)

No problem, no sorry necessary. Usually the story isn't that big, not enough to warrent it's own page, unless there are pretty images to include. I personally think that it compliments the introduction very well, since it's usually filler info, and not something needed to learn how to play the game. P.S., did you notice this? Procyon 19:20, 2 February 2007 (CST)
In footer navs, if the backname == backpage, don't have to explicitly state the backname, same with here, and nextname. -- Prod (Talk) 19:31, 2 February 2007 (CST)

MPH Walkthrough

Thanks for wikifying the Metroid Prime Hunters walkthrough. 0-172 Talk to me 2:42, 3 February 2007 (CST)

Nice touch to the ToC, but I have to tell you (unless you already know) that exact same image has already been uploaded and it can be found on the page about Samus. 0-172 Talk to me 18:55, 4 February 2007 (CST)

Mac OS X

On a topic totally unrelated to Strategy Wiki, from your user page, I'm guessing you use a Mac, am I correct in assuming that? (I use one myself, much better than a PC) 0-172 Talk to me 2:47, 3 February 2007 (CST)

(I can't believe that I'm asking this) Do you own an iPod? 0-172 Talk to me 2:55, 3 February 2007 (CST)
Well, I own a 4GB 1st Gen. iPod Nano. I've frustratedly run out of space. :( 0-172 Talk to me 18:38, 3 February 2007 (CST)

Hows this?

How exactly would put in a border? 0-172 Talk to me 19:47, 4 February 2007 (CST)
Hows that? (Notice I altered the border, I don't know how to make it dark grey though) 0-172 Talk to me 20:10, 4 February 2007 (CST)
As I've said before, I would discourage the creation of random userboxes, especially if they're not related to gaming. I've copied this template's markup into your page, and deleted it. I think that's the best solution for now. --DrBob (Talk) 14:25, 3 February 2007 (CST)

Camino? 0-172 Talk to me 3:30, 7 February 2007 (CST)
I altered the userbox for Camino. Better? 0-172 Talk to me 3:37, 7 February 2007 (CST)
Nahhh! There no such thing as being too generous. Anytime. 0-172 Talk to me 00:26, 9 February 2007 (CST)

MapleStory

Nice addition to the MapleStory/Table of Contents. -- Prod (Talk) 21:52, 4 February 2007 (CST)

Adminship

Wow! I never even noticed that you became a sysop. Congratulations, and welcome to the administration! 0-172 Talk to me 00:24, 9 February 2007 (CST)

I know/remember we had some downtime, but I don't remember how long, sorry. 0-172 Talk to me 00:30, 9 February 2007 (CST)

About 4 hours. What exactly was the problem? -- Prod (Talk) 18:50, 8 February 2007 (CST)
Easiest way to tell the time it was down for is by the edits. Hopefully it shut down because we got too much valid traffic :D. -- Prod (Talk) 19:24, 8 February 2007 (CST)

Pokeball: Nice touch

Hey man, thumbs up on the image. I've been bitten by the Pokemon bug too, and I'm going to overhaul the Red/Blue/Yello walkthrough just as soon as I hammer out the Yellow "What's New" pages. I love getting more images to spice up this place, there are still too many text-only pages here, IMO...
P.S. The server was down from approximately 4:00 to 7:15 by my recollection. Procyon 18:51, 8 February 2007 (CST)

"Return to gamename" links

Please stop putting them at the bottom of pages. They're non-standard, and not used anywhere else. We decided a while back to use templates such as {{Footer Nav}} instead of them. ;-) --DrBob (Talk) 08:31, 13 February 2007 (CST)

Vandalism warnings

Dan, when warning people about vandalism, there's no need to write your own warning: we've already got {{vandalism warning}} and {{vandalism warning 2}} available. :-) --DrBob (Talk) 09:46, 15 February 2007 (CST)

Potential significant change, could use input and later assistance.

I started a discussion on making a pretty substantial change to {{infobox}} and I thought I'd let you know about the discussion in case you were interested or wanted to help with the change if it was supported. link. Oh, and if you know someone who would want to help out/discuss this who's talk page I didn't leave it on, if you could let them know, that'd be useful, thanks. -- Mason11987 (Talk - Contributions) 09:00, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Walkthrough

Our main guide uses the picture and text method. Switching to something else should be brought up on first. Also, do you have any data about the walkthrough page being the most friendly, since a search brings up the main page. -- Prod (Talk) 11:57, 18 February 2007 (CST)

Sortable

Please see here (I'm on irc if you want to discuss). -- Prod (Talk) 22:42, 1 March 2007 (CST)

IRC

Can you come on irc for a few mins? -- Prod (Talk) 23:32, 30 March 2007 (CDT)

Thanks for the query.php fix, have a nice weekend as well :). -- Prod (Talk) 00:12, 31 March 2007 (CDT)

Installation request...

Hey Dan, do you think you might be able to install PostgreSQL on our server? That's what we're required to use for our final project in DB, and I'd like to deploy it on our server. (It might turn out useful...) echelon 16:36, 19 April 2007 (CDT)

$wgAllowSlowParserFunctions

Could you enable $wgAllowSlowParserFunctions? It would allow the main page to have an accurate (and automated) count of guides at completion stage 4 (see staff lounge and my talk page for reason/discussion). --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 20:49, 28 April 2007 (CDT)

Hopefully, it won't (drain resources). I was hoping to modify one of the parser functions classified dependent on that value being enabled to count up the number of articles in a specific category (unless that is simply not doable, in which case, don't enable it). With a few things being modified beyond that, it should be relatively safe from crashing the server. --Ryan SchmidtTalk - Contribs 15:11, 1 May 2007 (CDT)

Tag cloud extension

Please install this extension. This and other such extensions could really help jazz up the Main Page (maybe something like this site's layout), plus it appeals to Web 2.0 lovers. Thanks! GarrettTalk 05:53, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

ImageMap extension

Could you please update our ImageMap extension to the current version? It has a few extra features that I need for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Since the new version is just functionality updates, it should not affect the imagemaps already on the site in any way. --Skizzerz Scissors.pngSafety Skizzerz Talk · Contribs · Spel Chek™ · VFG · RTFM 13:17, 11 July 2007 (CDT)

Database Error

I just got this error, I thought you might like to know.

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

(SQL query hidden)

from within function "MediaWikiBagOStuff::_doquery". MySQL returned error "1205: Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction (localhost)".

--The preceding signed comment was added by Rocky (talkcontribs). 15:05, 28 December 2007 (CST)

This is just another effect of the overloaded server. It's trying to finish all the requests it gets, but some just wait too long for others to finish. Just refresh the page and it should be fine. -- Prod (Talk) 15:42, 28 December 2007 (CST)
