Welcome to StrategyWiki![edit]

Hello Salnax! Welcome to StrategyWiki. Thank you for your contributions. If you have any questions, just contact a sysop through their talk page or post on the staff lounge, and they'd be happy to help. If you need help editing, check the StrategyWiki Guide or visit the IRC channel to chat, we're usually around. On the other hand, if you have ideas for StrategyWiki, bring them up on the forums. To keep up-to-date with the goings on of the wiki, consider adding the noticeboard to your watchlist.

Please remember to sign your name when leaving comments on talk pages by clicking   or using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Guidance[edit]

Hi Salnax. Thanks for your inquiry, we're really glad to have you aboard. If you look on the Main Page, there's a projects box with three ongoing projects that we have, namely the cleanup project, the move lists project, and the Achievements project. Also, ordinarily we have a collaboration of the month, but one hasn't been assigned for April yet, so that still needs to be selected. But to be honest, I'm really grateful for your contributions to Pokémon Black and White, and especially to Kid Icarus: Uprising. We always appreciate users who can provide information on the most recently released games. Basically, write about whatever you're most passionate about. If there's any other help that I can provide, feel free to drop me another message. Procyon 03:05, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey Salnax. Don't be discouraged by the lack of images, you're doing a great job with the text, and that's the hard part. In order to find art, one place to check would be Nintendo's official Kid Icarus website. Another place to check would be the Japanese version, since they sometimes use different artwork. As for getting screenshots of a DS game, that can be a challenge. You either have to scour sites like IGN or Gamespot in order to find their reviews and "borrow" their images (although we don't really want images watermarked with their logos, but if that's all you can find, so be it.) If you have a cell phone with a good camera, you might be able to take good photos of your 3DS screen. Another option is emulators, but since I haven't heard of the 3DS being emulated yet, that's not an option. The best way to start your search is to just put Kid Icarus Uprising into Google and check the images section. Good luck. Procyon 03:22, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Image categorization[edit]

Hi Salnax! Great work on the images. If you wouldn't mind, please don't forget to add [[Category:Kid Icarus: Uprising image]] to all of the KI:U images you add to the site. That way, one can see just the images which pertain to the guide. Thanks very much, and keep up the good work. Procyon 01:35, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Weapon fusion[edit]

It seems this system applies to the fusions I have, it seems valid. There are other sources like http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/60824/what-determines-what-type-of-weapon-will-be-produced-through-a-weapon-fusion, that also reference the japanese wiki http://shinparu.wiki.fc2.com/wiki/融合?sid=6a75cde6c50696f3e95907e65e5d959d - that seems to be the original source. The answer in stackexchange is extremely good, I think I should copy that. The user-submitted content in the Stackexchanges has to licensed as sharealike CC, like here in the Strategy-Wiki, so I think it should be possible to copy that, if it is right attributed and the source linked. What do you think? -- Mnementh 18:17, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

StackExchange is CC-BY-SA 3.0, which is the same as us. Attribute the site/users in the edit description, and it should be fine from a legal perspective (unless they got it from somewhere else...). -- Prod (Talk) 00:41, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Icaruspedia images[edit]

Can you add a link to the original webpage where you got the images from, rather than just the note? That way we can keep track of the contributors on that site as well. -- Prod (Talk) 00:44, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

KIU AR cards?[edit]

Hi Salnax. Would you happen to know of any good sources for scans of the AR cards? I would love to have pictures of the cards up on the site. I'm gonna go look for some, but if you happen to know of any, please let me know. Thanks! Procyon 21:04, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Finals[edit]

Good luck! -- Prod (Talk) 00:37, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Welcome back :) Glad you survived! Procyon 00:22, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Kid Icarus: Uprising[edit]

I've been reviewing your edits for this game. Great work so far! I particularly like the images you've gathered. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:57, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! I finished the game a while back, so it's mostly a matter of replaying the game and writing about it now. This is my first time writing a guide though, so it's taking a bit of time. Still, I'm thinking that it will be a solid guide in a month or two. Any tricks of the trade you'd like to share?--Salnax (talk) 19:35, 8 May 2012 (UTC)
Just make sure you go through and copyedit your work for grammar/spelling errors, having a neutral point of view, and being efficient. People like to get wordy in guides. I'm a stickler for technical specifics (e.g. how many enemies, how many shots need to be fired, timing, etc.), but I won't be able to criticize you or chime in since I don't have the game. When you feel like it is all done, make sure to let us know so we can nominate it to be featured. Then the community will go through a review process to look through the details of the guide and promote it to featured if all of the issues have been taken care of. I haven't taken a look at the content to see if I can add anything, but I would if it was nominated. Good luck out there. I've been doing this for years and it takes a lot of effort, but it's very satisfying! Oh, I recommend checking out other sites' guides to acquire info you may have forgotten. Maybe you'll come up with some new, original content by concluding on the information you gather. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:43, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Categories on alternate named games[edit]

Hi Salnax. Thanks for the help with SMAS, but it actually doesn't get a Wii category. We will put categories on redirects when the title of the game is different on one system than for another. The main article is Super Mario All-Stars, which only officially came out on the SNES. The alternate title, Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition redirects to Super Mario All-Stars, but if you look at the redirect page, you can see that we categorized it for the Wii. It's extremely nitpicky, I know, but it's to make sure that the right titles only show up in the proper categories. Keep up the great work. Procyon 03:33, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Edit counter[edit]

I've gone ahead and added the edit counter script to your optional javascript scripts (User:Salnax/common.js). Now you have to go to your user page (User:Salnax) and in the toolbox (the location on the screen is skin specific; in Dolphin look for the black bar at the bottom that says Toolbox. I think it's down there still...) there is now a special link that says "Edit counter." When you click it, your browser will sort of lock up while it runs the script. Wait for it to count your edits (it probably won't take long for you at this point). When it is done, the link should change from "Edit counter" to "Done!" At this point, the script has automatically updated the page I specified in the variables for the script, so if you go to User:Salnax/Edit count you will see the table it generates for you. Since I re-added the link on your userpage, it should appear there, too, as transcluded (loaded from a different page) content. Questions? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:52, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Thank you very much!--Salnax (talk) 20:25, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

Fact checking[edit]

Hi Salnax, when updating information, it's best to provide a source (website URL) in the summary field so that the facts can be scrutinized. If a bigger discussion is necessary, start a topic on the discussion/talk page for the article. I'm referring to edits like this one you made. How do I know you know what the launch titles were? How do I know you're not lying? :P --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:31, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Portal relocation[edit]

Hi, just letting you know that after further discussion the portals are going to make use of the category pages instead of being separate, so I've moved your work to Category:Super Smash Bros.. Thanks for your contribution to this project. :) Garrett (talk) 05:16, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Series pages[edit]

Thanks for all the upgrades to the series pages! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:28, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

No problem. Just because I'm taking a break from KI:U doesn't mean I can't help out.--Salnax (talk) 18:35, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Year pages[edit]

It would be better to do that as a modification to a year template, rather than adding manually. -- Prod (talk) 23:56, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Good point. I ought to learn how to make templates anyway.--Salnax (talk) 00:15, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
Nice work :). I made some changes to the usage, and updated the ones that were already done, so take a look. -- Prod (talk) 00:28, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

Please see these changes. -- Prod (talk) 00:45, 9 June 2012 (UTC)

In case you didn't notice Prod's cleanup, please leave out the "Template:" string when inserting templates. You don't see that used anywhere else on this site, do you? :P --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 06:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Kid Icarus: Uprising/Enemies diff[edit]

Hi Salnax, can you confirm for me that these changes are legitimate: http://strategywiki.org/w/index.php?title=Kid_Icarus%3A_Uprising%2FEnemies&diff=616563&oldid=612216 Thanks, --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:47, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

They're 100% on the mark. I'm hoping this MJ Troper sticks around to help me finish up the guide. Which, by the way, I will definately complete sooner or later. I've just been a bit busy lately.--Salnax (talk) 19:13, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy/Image naming[edit]

Please see our policy on image naming. For consistency and ease of use throughout the wiki, image names should contain the name of the game or its abbreviation and a one or two word description. Thanks for helping to keep our images neat!

P.S. I like you. You are a good addition to our community. —Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 03:26, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Guide completion weekly updates[edit]

Hi Salnax, can I ask a favor? Whenever you do the weekly update, could you also try to start the main page of one of the games? That would really help us out. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:32, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Sure--Salnax (talk) 17:40, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

Great job on the guide so far! Thanks for pushing for a collab of the month, too. I think this will help us out in the long run. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:16, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Congrats on completing two worlds. Yaaaahoooo! Aha. Also, can you take a look at 2-2 and see if you can add anything to the page I started? Thanks, --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:56, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
Your wish was my command.--Salnax (talk) 17:27, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Image categories categorization[edit]

Remember to add Category:Guide-specific images on those category pages! Thanks for putting something in so it was brought to my attention. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 05:48, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Guide completion stages[edit]

The stages do not refer to percent complete. Please review this page and each of the six stages to better understand our rating. Stage two, for example, usually just means that the walkthrough has begun. Although it is fine to leave it at stage 1, New Super Mario Bros. 2 will be at stage 3 in the next few months and the line between them is vague. However, I do like the rule of thumb for using stage two for guides with 50% of a walkthrough. Sorry if reverting that edit offends you. If I could take it back I would, because it's not a big deal (there's no point in downgrading it given the amount of content). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:33, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

It's no problem. I just read the line "Guides at this level generally have only a few gaps concerning the walkthrough" and thought "that doesn't sound right!" If you honestly think what we've got so far qualifies as a Stage 2 guide, well, you know better than me.--Salnax (talk) 21:36, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
I edited each of the descriptions to make them clearer. Stage 2 is now much more simple and does not conflict with Stage 1 or Stage 3. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 22:08, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Nomination for adminship[edit]

Hi Salnax, I'm wondering if you would like to be given admin privileges on the site. You are already involved in much of the cleanup and organizational areas of the wiki. If completed, you will be able to patrol edits, rollback edits (great for quickly undoing vandalism), move images, and delete pages. Let me know if you're interested, and keep up the great work! Your contributions are much appreciated around here. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 16:27, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

If you and/or other admins feel that I am qualified for the position, I'd be honored.--Salnax (talk) 18:43, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
I was already considering this, and NMH beat me to it. I would support your nomination. Procyon 23:08, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
Please view and complete the nomination form here: StrategyWiki:Requests for permissions/Salnax. =) --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:07, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Congratulations. Let us know if you have any questions. Also, check out the admin guide at StrategyWiki:Guide/Admin guide. The biggest changes for you now are the ability to rollback edits (be careful!) and when you go to recent changes you'll see unpatrolled edits. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:19, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

DSiWare cat[edit]

When adding [[Category:DSiWare]] to a page, please also add its corresponding links to the infobox. |distributor=[[DSiWare]] should be added below publishers, and [[Nintendo DSi]] should be added to the systems parameter. See this diff for an example. Thanks! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 07:17, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

Pokemon Red and Blue species strategies[edit]

Wow. I can't believe you finished that page so quickly! Way to go! --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:25, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! Half of the information was already in the guide, but hadn't yet been gathered in one place, so the credit should be shared with people like Prod and Procyon who made that guide great in the first place. Still, I think that page adds something valuable. If you have some experience with Pokemon, be sure to look through what I wrote and see if you have anything to add. After all, I could have missed some cool strategies.--Salnax (talk) 23:29, 10 October 2012 (UTC)
I haven't played read or blue in years, and the game was pretty simple for me back in the day. I would just use the same move on every monster and I seemed to win. Then when I got Gyarados and Venasaur all I would use is Solar Beam and something else if that didn't work (Solar Beam usually worked). Ahaha. I was more interested in chasing a rumor that I could somehow get a special TM for beating the Elite Four 100 times and then get Marrill... I never did beat them 100 times, but I got pretty close (I would go home every day and beat them ~10 times for a week). --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 15:55, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

What is an AR Shooter?[edit]

?? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:31, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

AR stands for Augmented reality. That's when the appearance of a game on the screen is based on a player's actual surroundings. This is made possible by the cameras on handheld devices nowadays. An AR Shooter forces players to physically move their system around to shoot at targets that appear on the screen. I'm not very good at explaining this, so here's an example video.[1]--Salnax (talk) 18:31, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Wait, was that rhetorical? Sorry. You seemed to know what they are based on the edit you made. Sorry.--Salnax (talk) 18:33, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
I asked the question after a few minutes of searching and not getting an answer, then I figured it out a bit later. Sorry about the confusion. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 20:35, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Mega Man on 3DS?[edit]

What's your source for this? I can't find one. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 19:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Nintendo Life, or here to be precise.--Salnax (talk) 20:37, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Found it. Yeah it looks like it's EU exclusive at the moment: [2] --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:16, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Is there a separate eShop for England and EU? --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 18:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

To my knowledge, there is one eShop for the United States and neighboring countries, one for Japan, and one for Europe including the UK. Due to local laws, developers have to license their games for each region independently, discouraging simultaneous worldwide releases.

Thumbnails[edit]

Please add captions to thumbnails. If it doesn't need one, don't use thumb. If the border really makes the image look better, just use frame. --Notmyhandle (talk contribs) 17:45, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

User:Salnax/Sandbox[edit]

I deleted this page as it's adding a bunch of entries to the transclusion lists which I'm trying to review, and it just seems like a random list. If you do need it, let me know and I can restore it. -- Prod (talk) 15:52, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
