Since Stage 4 treats you to harder versions of the first three stages, you should not be surprised to find yourself in the jungle again. You will have a brief opportunity to power up before some enemies appear, and you have to begin hopping across lily pads again. If you fire on the left side of the screen however, you can find a Wing tile, which will come in handy. Immediately after you cross the water, you will find the second and only other wing tile in the game, also on the left side. You'll have to play very well to avoid getting hit and losing the wings if you want to hold on to them until the end of the stage where they will help you most.

Between the two long water sections is a crowded land area where you'll have to duck inside a clearing surrounded by trees. Inside, you can uncover a helpful star tile for when the enemies get too thick. If you've managed to hold onto the flames, the nearby power-up will serve the same purpose. When the area starts to open up, and you see a series of pools, head to the right side and shoot the space above the first pool. You will reveal the one and only Riki tile in this stage. If you can grab it, and hold onto the wings, you should be able to sail through the rest of the stage.

The last challenge is a series of four floating islands that move back and forth at varying speeds. Jump timing is critical, although the last two islands float close enough together that you can simply walk from one to the other. After the islands are a few bobbing lily pads which you must also time properly to avoid falling in the water. On the other side is a short stretch of land before reaching the cavern in the back of the stage.

Boss[edit]

The boss of Stage 4-1 is identical to the boss of the first stage.
