Mod Cheats[edit]

Promo.xml in the “data” folder in the instillation directory can be opened by a text editor (make sure it is not “Read Only”). Modifying this file adjusts the gameplay itself, and can be used to make mods for the game.

  • Super Crates - search for the term “Createof” and adjust the “InitialResourceCount” value from, for example, 100 to 99999. You will now have super crates.
  • Invincible Units – this allows you to create a unit that will never die. Note: this affects enemy units also. Search for the unit of interest, for example the explorer. Scroll until you locate the <Flag> area. Make a new column and press CTRL and TAB twice. Type:
        <Flag>Invulnerable</Flag>
        <Flag>DoNotDieAtZeroHitpoints</Flag>

Note: If you play multiplayer ESO, if you change the coding in proto.xml, you can't enter an ESO game. If you want to play again, you must change it back to the original, or reinstall the game.

sp_yourcityname_homecity.xml in the My Documents\My Games\Age of Empires 3\Savegame folder can be opened by a text editor, and controls the contents of your city.

  • <level>xx</level> - replace xx with the level you wish your home city to be.
  • <skillpoints>xx</skillpoints> - replace xx with the number of new cards you wish to be able to select. For example, replacing xx with 10 will give you 10 extra cards.
  • <xp>xx</xp> - replace xx with the number of experience points you wish to have (level will auto-adjust when you open your city to ensure the XP and level values match).
  • <respec>x</respec> - if you have reset your cards once (returning all your skill points) this value will be 0. Change x to 1 to allow you to reset your cards again. This can be useful if you wish to jump to a higher level by changing the “level” value, but don’t want to cheat and use extra skillpoints. Using reset will reset your card selection and give you the correct number of skillpoints for that level.

Access Hidden Units in Editor[edit]

There are several secret units that don't, at the moment of this writing, have a code to access them during games. Despite this, they can still be accessed in the editor through a simple process. First, place a unit on the map, then select the "Replace Unit" command under "Objects." In the drop down menu, select Fluffy, Flying Purple Tapir, Learicorn, George Crushington, Lazerbear, or Monster Truck A and then click replace unit.

Get Deathmatch Resources in Campaign[edit]

Firstly, save a game in the campaign, go to ESO, play a quick deathmatch game (rated or not) then go and load the saved game and you will have 20000 more of each resource.
