Avalanche Studios is an independent, privately held video games developer based in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded in March 2003 by Christofer Sundberg, Linus Blomberg and Viktor Blomberg. Avalanche Studios focuses on developing original intellectual properties for games and other media and base their projects on the Avalanche Engine. The Avalanche Engine is a unique games technology powering landscapes in explicit detail.
Just Cause was Avalanche Studios first game and was released in September 2006. The game has been awarded with several awards. The company currently works on Just Cause 2 and three other projects for different platforms, genres and publishers. The Avalanche Engine (current version 2.0) is the studios' proprietary engine. The engine is focused on large landscapes with varied climates zones. The engine also features advanced weather effects, day-to-night cycles and much more.
