Stage 1[edit]

MQ Stage 1.png

Once Scott and Stanley have appeared at the bottom of the screen, three Zako-Hei (written in Katakana and Kanji as ザコ兵) will appear in front of them as the Katakana text Sutēji 1, noruma 3 (ステージ1, ノルマ3) appears at the top of the screen; the three-script text Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 3 (第1問, 残りノルマ3) will then appear at the top of the screen before the first question (and four possible answers) appear and the time meters start emptying. If you answer a question correctly, a yellow "O" will appear next to your chosen number and the amount of remaining time will be added to your score, as Scott (or Stanley) repeatedly whips (or punches) one of the Zako-Hei to make him explode - but if you answer a question incorrectly, a red "X" will appear next to your chosen number, and one of the Zako-Hei will throw his machete at Scott (or Stanley) as they lose one "life-heart". The other player will now have to answer that question correctly within the remaining time; if he also answers incorrectly, a blue "X" will appear next to their chosen number, and one of the Zako-Hei will throw his machete at that other player's character. Once you have answered three questions correctly, the Katakana text Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen and you will be treated to the following cutscene (the second in the game, and after only the first stage):

「宝冠ですか...盗まれてしまいましたわ」
('Hōkandesu ka...Nusuma rete shimaimashita wa')
「えっ!」
('E!')

The screen will then cut to a shot of the game's overworld map as the Kanji/Hiragana text of Shinro wo erande kudasai (進路を選んでください) appears at the top of the screen and you will have ten seconds to decide on whether you wish to take the western path by pressing the first Answer Button (which is indicated by the Kanji text Nanmon-taku 2R 難問択2R), or that northern path by pressing that second Answer Button (which is indicated by the Kanji text Kantan-taku 4R 簡単択4R); also, if you take the western path, the questions for the next three stages will have two possible answers as opposed to four.

Stage 2[edit]

MQ Stage 2.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, the three-script texts Sutēji 2, e no nan dai, noruma 3 (ステージ2, 絵の何題, ノルマ3) will appear at the top of the screen; the Kanji/Hiragana text Tsugi no e ha nanidesu ka? (次の絵は何ですか?) will then appear at the top of the screen as the first question (and its two or four possible answers) appear, and the time meters start emptying. If you chose that western path, the questions will have "15-puzzle" pictures above them - but if you chose that northern path, they will have "sliding" pictures above them. Once you have answered three questions correctly, the Katakana text Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen and Scott and Stanley will go on to the third stage; also, if you had answered every question correctly, you will be treated to the following cutscene (the third in this game, and after only the second stage):

Stage 3[edit]

MQ Stage 3B.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, the Katakana text Noruma -1 (ノルマ-1) will flash up above their "life-hearts" if they had answered every question correctly on that previous stage, and one of the Saber Tigers (written in Katakana as サーベルタイガーズ) or Kaba (written in Katakana as カバ) automatically explode; the Katakana text Sutēji 3, noruma 1/2/3/4 (ステージ3, ノルマ1/2/3/4) will then appear at the top of the screen before the three-script text of Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 1/2/3/4 (第1問, 残りノルマ1/2/3/4) appears at the top of the screen. The first question (and two or four possible answers) will then appear as the time meters begin emptying - and when you answer a question correctly, Scott (or Stanley) will repeatedly whip (or punch) one of the Saber Tigers or Kaba to make him explode. However, if you answer any question incorrectly one of the Saber Tigers or Kaba will suddenly go for Scott (or Stanley); once you have answered between one and four questions correctly the Katakana text Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen and Scott and Stanley will go on to the fourth stage. This is the first stage which does not have a cutscene at the end.

Stage 4[edit]

MQ Stage 4A.png
MQ Stage 4B.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, they will either walk into a swamp, or the jaws of two Hito-Gui Wani (written in all three Japanese scripts as 人食いワニ) as the Katakana text Sutēji 4, noruma 3 (ステージ4, ノルマ3) appears at the top of the screen; the three-script text Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 3 (第1問, 残りノルマ3) will then appear up at the top of the screen before the stage's first question (and its two or four possible answers) appear as the time meters start emptying. If you answer any question incorrectly, Scott (or Stanley) will sink further into the swamp or the Hito-Gui Wani will close his jaws on him - but once you answer three questions correctly, that Katakana text Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen, as two ropes come down and lift Scott and Stanley up out of the swamp (or the two Hito-Gui Wani disappear off the bottom of the screen).

Stage 5[edit]

MQ Stage 5.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, three Lions (written in Katakana as ライオンズ) will appear in front of them as the Katakana text Sutēji 5, noruma 3 (ステージ5, ノルマ3) appears at the top of the screen; the three-script text Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 3 (第1問, 残りノルマ3) will then appear at the top of the screen before the first question (and its four possible answers) appear and the time meters begin emptying. If you answer a question correctly, Scott (or Stanley) will repeatedly whip (or punch) one of the Lions to make him explode - but if you answer one incorrectly, one of the Lions will suddenly go for Scott (or Stanley). Once you have answered three questions correctly, that Katakana text Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen, and Scott and Stanley will go on to the sixth stage; a red square will also flash up on the right side of the screen.

Stage 6[edit]

MQ Stage 6.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, three more Zako-Hei will appear in front of them, as that Katakana text of Sutēji 6, noruma 3 (ステージ6, ノルマ3), appears at the top of the screen; that three-script text Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 3 (第1問, 残りノルマ3) will then appear at the top of the screen before the first question (and four possible answers) appear and the time meters start emptying. If you answer a question correctly, Scott (or Stanley) will repeatedly whip (or punch) one of the Zako-Hei to make him explode - but if you answer any question incorrectly, one of the Zako-Hei will throw his machete at Scott (or Stanley). Once you have answered three questions correctly, the Katakana text of Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen, and the screen will then cut to a shot of the temple hall as the Kanji/Hiragana text Shinro wo erande kudasai (進路を選んでください) appears at the top of the screen; you'll then have ten seconds to decide which path you want to take, by pressing its number's Answer Button (which are indicated by the four Katakana and Kanji texts Manga マンガ, Seikatsu 生活, Supōtsu スポーツ and Nonsekushon ノンセクション respectively). An orange square will also flash up above that red one on the right side of the screen once you have pressed any Answer Button to confirm your choice.

Stage 7[edit]

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared, at the bottom of the screen, four Iguanas (written in Katakana as イグアナズ), if you took paths 1 or 2, or two Zougame (written in Katakana as ゾウガメ), if you took paths 3 or 4, will appear in front of them as the Katakana text Sutēji 7, noruma 4/2 (ステージ7, ノルマ4/2) appears, at the top of the screen; that three-script text of Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 4/2 (第1問, 残りノルマ4/2) will then appear at the top of the screen as the first question and four possible answers appear and the time meters start emptying. If you answer a question correctly, Scott (or Stanley) will repeatedly whip (or punch) one of the Iguanas or Zougame, to make him explode - but if you answer any question incorrectly, one of the Iguanas or Zougame will suddenly go for Scott (or Stanley). Once you have answered four or two questions correctly the Katakana text of Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen, and the screen will then cut to a shot of the temple hall as the Kanji/Hiragana text Shinro wo erande kudasai (進路を選んでください) appears at the top of the screen; you then have ten seconds to decide which path you want to take by pressing its number's Answer Button (which are indicated by the four Kanji and Katakana texts Nihon chiri 日本地理, Yokaishi 世界史, Saishin komikku 最新コミック and Nonsekushon ノンセクション respectively). A lime-green square will also flash up above that orange one upon the right screen side once you press any Answer Button.

Stage 8[edit]

MQ Stage 8A.png
MQ Stage 6.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, two (if you took paths 1 or 2) or three (if you took paths 3 or 4) more Zako-Hei will appear in front of them as the Katakana text of Sutēji 8, noruma 2/3 (ステージ8, ノルマ2/3) appears up at the top of the screen; the three-script text of Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 2/3 (第1問, 残りノルマ2/3) will then appear at the top of the screen, as the first question and four possible answers appear and the time meters start emptying. If you answer a question correctly, Scott or Stanley will repeatedly whip or punch one of the Zako-Hei to make him explode - but, if you answer any question incorrectly, one of the Zako-Hei will throw his machete at Scott or Stanley. Once you've answered two or three questions correctly, that Katakana text of Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen, and the screen will then cut to a shot of the temple hall as that Kanji/Hiragana text of Shinro wo erande kudasai (進路を選んでください) appears at the top of the screen; you then have ten seconds to decide which path you want to take, by pressing its number's Answer Button (which are indicated by the four Kanji and Katakana texts Sekai chiri 世界地理, Jiken· jiko 事件・事故, Kyūgi 球技, and Nonsekushon ノンセクション respectively). A pea-green square will also flash up above that lime-green one once you choose.

Stage 9[edit]

MQ Stage 9A.png
MQ Stage 9C.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, they will walk into a room that begins filling with water (if you took paths 1 or 2), or four more Zako-Hei will appear in front of them (if you took paths 3 or 4), as that Katakana text of Sutēji 9, noruma 5/4 (ステージ9, ノルマ5/4) appears up at the top of the screen; that three-script text of Dai 1-mon, nokori noruma 2/3 (第1問, 残りノルマ5/4) will then appear at the top of the screen, as the first question and four possible answers appear and the time meters start emptying. If you answer a question correctly on paths 3 and 4, Scott or Stanley will repeatedly whip or punch one of the Zako-Hei, to make him explode - but, if you answer any question incorrectly, the room will fill to the ceiling or one of the Zako-Hei will throw his machete at Scott or Stanley. Once you have answered five or four questions correctly, that Katakana text of Noruma kuria (ノルマクリア) will appear at the top of the screen as two ropes come down and lift Scott and Stanley out of the water on paths 1 and 2; the screen will then cut to a shot of that temple hall as a turquoise square appears above that pea-green one upon the right side of the screen. Now it is the first boss battle.

Stage 10[edit]

MQ Stage 10.png

Once Scott and Stanley have reappeared at the bottom of the screen, the area's boss will appear in front of them, as that Katakana text of Sutēji 10, OX taimutoriaru (ステージ10, OXタイムトライアル) appears at the top of the screen; you will then have to push the first and second Answer Buttons to answer "O" (true) or "X" (false) to as many questions as you can in one minute. Once the timer has run out, the boss will speak the three-script text of Chikushō, waga 'Yaminotsume Kyō' ni eikō are.... (チクショー、我が「闇の爪教」に栄光あれ....), as he explodes and falls off the bottom of the screen - and you will then be treated to the following cutscene. If the first player has the highest score at this point, that first part of text and the picture below will look like this:

スコットラック1/2/3増加1Pのラックが1/2/3増窺えます
(Sukottorakku 1/2/3 zōka 1P no rakku ga 1/2/3 zō ukagaemasu)

But if the second player has the highest score at this point, that first part of text and the picture below will look like this (note that Stanley is grinning in it):

('Dai ichi no hōgyoku ha kono kawa no jōryū no ōinaru dōkutsu ni aru mitai')
MQ Stage 10 Cutscene 4.png

The screen will then cut to a shot of the overworld map, as the Kanji/Hiragana text of Shinro wo erande kudasai (進路を選んでください) appears at the top of the screen; you will now have ten seconds to decide whether you want to take the western path by pressing the first Answer Button (which is indicated by the Kanji text Tsūjō mondai 通常問題), or the northern path by pressing that second Answer Button (which is indicated by that Kanji and Hiragana text Keisanmondai ari 計算問題あり). If you choose the latter, that thirteenth stage will be the first instance of a Keisan (計算) mathematical question time trial in which you have to answer as many questions as you can in one minute - and these are the only ones that people who cannot read Japanese will have a chance of answering correctly given that they will be employing the use of numbers rather than the standard Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji characters.
