The Bastion is the main hub of the game, and you will be returning to this place whenever you complete one of the other locations.

Buildings[edit]

Buildings can be constructed in the Bastion with the use of Cores, and these buildings can later be upgraded using Shards.

The main feature of the Bastion is the Monument in the middle. When you deposit any collected Cores, it will restore a portion of the Bastion, and allow you to construct one of six buildings. These buildings can be later upgraded once you obtain Shards.

  • Arsenal: The Arsenal is available for construction the first time you enter the Bastion. It allows you to change your weapon selection and Secret Skill. Upgrading the Arsenal unlocks a Secret Skill.
  • Distillery: The Distillery is available for construction the first time you enter the Bastion. It allows you to choose Spirits to determine which passive bonus you will receive. You can initially have one active Spirit, and as you gain levels, can increase it to a maximum of 10. Upgrading the Distillery unlocks three additional Spirits.
  • Forge: The Forge is available once you complete The Workmen Ward. The building allows you to upgrade your weapons, in exchange for one of the upgrade materials and Fragments. When you upgrade a weapon, you can choose among one of two benefits for a given tier and change them later. Weapons are given three upgrade tiers, and two more are available once you upgrade the Forge. When built, you will receive Something Heavy from the Forge.
  • Lost-and-Found: The Lost-and-Found is a store, and upgrading it allows purchasing additional items. In this store, you can purchase upgrade materials, Spirits, and Idols in exchange for Fragments. In addition, if you failed to pick up one of the mementos during a mission, you can purchase it here.
  • Memorial: The Memorial lists various Vigils (or tasks) that you can perform to get Fragments. Note that Vigils completed before the Memorial is built must be performed again to count.
  • Shrine: The Shrine allows you to activate Idols. Active Idols increase the difficulty of the enemies, but will also increase the Fragment and XP reward for defeating them.

Skyway[edit]

To the north of the Bastion is the Skyway that you can use to reach other locations. Of these locations, the ones important to the storyline become locked after you complete them.

If you visit the Proving Grounds location, they will allow you to revisit them until you obtain the first place prize (though in Score Attack Mode, you can revisit any stage as many times as you'd like). The Who Knows Where levels can be revisited as often as desired in any game mode via items that are slowly added to the Bastion as the story progresses.
