Specializations are modifications or improvements players can equip to give them an edge in combat. Specializations are usually unlocked by rank, though some are unlocked via combat experience. Which specializations are available depends on the selected class and occasionally the weapons equipped.

Specializations come in three tiers: primary, secondary, and vehicle. Players can choose to equip one of each, with primary and secondary specializations applying to the player and the vehicle specializations obviously improving vehicles.

Assault[edit]

Icon Specialization Unlocked At Tier Official Description Effect
BFBC2 RedDotScopeAR.png Red Dot Sight 14,000 EXP Primary A highly effective optical sight providing enhanced point and shoot capability for close quarter combat. It does not emit a laser and therefore is considered a "passive" aiming device. As the name suggests, adds a scope with a red dot. If this is not equipped, the player will use iron sights instead to aim the weapon. Some weapons have awkward sights, and a reflex scope may not obstruct the player's view as much. Reflex sights are effective to short or medium distances, and do not take as long to scope as the 4x scope.
BFBC2 ScopeAR.png 4x Rifle Scope 17,000 EXP Primary 4 X optical rifle sight that increases magnification and accuracy for aimed shots at medium ranges. Adds a scope with a small red chevron. Highest powered zoom possible on an assault rifle. Limits the player's field of vision up-close, but enables superior accuracy at longer distances.
BFBC2 ARMarksman.png Assault Rifle Marksmanship Training 24,000 EXP Secondary Assault Rifle modification that uses a fully adjustable fore grip and telescopic stock to custom fit a weapon to its operator. When properly set, it greatly improves handling characteristics and increases the accuracy of aimed fire. Decreases the spread of all assault rifles by 25%. Also applies to the G3, the M14 Mod 0 Enhanced, and the M1 Garand, as well as the user's sidearm. The spread reduction applies to the weapons regardless if fired from the hip or aimed through the standard iron sights, the reflex sight, or the 4x scope.

Engineer[edit]

BFBC2 RedDotScopeSMG.png Red Dot Sight 13,500 EXP Primary A highly effective optical sight providing enhanced point and shoot capability for close quarter combat.
BFBC2 ScopeSMG.png 4x Rifle Scope 13,500 EXP Primary 4 X optical rifle sight that increases magnification and accuracy for aimed shots at medium ranges. Adds a scope with a small red chevron. Highest powered zoom possible on a submachine gun. Limits the player's field of vision up-close, but enables superior accuracy at longer distances.
BFBC2 SMGMarksman.png SMG Marksmanship Training 21,500 Secondary Specially made silencer designed to diminish harmonics resulting in improved noise reduction in addition to increased accuracy of aimed fire. Decreases the spread of all SMGs by 25%. Also applies to the M1A1 Thompson and the user's sidearm. The spread reduction applies to the weapons regardless if fired from the hip or aimed through the standard iron sights, the reflex sight, or the 4x scope.

Medic[edit]

Icon Specialization Unlocked At Tier Official Description Effect
BFBC2 RedDotScopeLMG.png Red Dot Sight 15,000 EXP Primary A highly effective optical sight providing enhanced point and shoot capability for close quarter combat.
BFBC2 ScopeLMG.png 4x Rifle Scope 18,000 EXP Primary 4 X optical rifle sight that increases magnification and accuracy for aimed shots at medium ranges. Adds a scope with a small red chevron. Highest powered zoom possible on a light machine gun. Limits the player's field of vision up-close, but enables superior accuracy at longer distances.
BFBC2 LMGMarksman.png LMG Marksmanship Training 28,000 EXP Secondary This heavy machined barrel provides a heightened level of accuracy during operations when used in conjunction with marksmanship principles and firing from a stationary position. Decreases the spread of all LMGs by 25%. Also applies to the user's sidearm. The spread reduction applies to the weapons regardless if fired from the hip or aimed through the standard iron sights, the reflex sight, or the 4x scope.
BFBC2 MedkitRange.png
Improved Medkit Range 21,000 EXP Secondary A modification that extends the range of previously deployed medical kits on the battlefield. Provides longer range healing to seriously injured personnel. Increases the healing radius of your medkit from 3.5 to 7 metres. Extremely effective when combined with the medkit healing upgrade.
BFBC2 MedkitHeal.png
Improved Medkit Heal 12,000 EXP Primary This Advanced Medical Kit allows for quick and accurate diagnosis of injured soldiers. It substantially increases the rate of healing to med kits already deployed on the battlefield. This improved medkit heals 50% faster than the standard. Extremely effective when combined with the medkit range upgrade.

Recon[edit]

Icon Specialization Unlocked At Tier Official Description Effect
BFBC2 RedDotScopeSniper.png Red Dot Sight 13,500 EXP Primary A highly effective optical sight providing enhanced point and shoot capability for close quarter combat. It does not emit a laser and therefore is considered a "passive" aiming device. As the name suggests, adds a scope with a red dot. If this is not equipped, the player will use the higher powered scope to aim. Far more effective at shorter range than the standard scope.
BFBC2 ScopeSniper.png 4x Rifle Scope 13,500 EXP Primary 4 X optical rifle sight that increases magnification and accuracy for aimed shots at medium ranges. Adds a scope with a small red chevron. Far less limiting than the standard sniper scope, at the cost of a lower zoom. Effective with semiautomatic weapons, or in a designated marksman role.
BFBC2 HighPowerScope.png 12x High Power Scope 10,000 EXP Primary A highly efficient compliment to sniper rifles, this 12x optical sight intensifies zoom power while also providing substantially longer range accuracy. It allows greater stand off striking capability and target engagement. The highest powered zoom in the game. Some players look down on players using this scope, as it causes players to stay at ranges less useful for their team. Users of this scope must compensate more for bullet drop, as it too is magnified.
BFBC2 SpotterScope.png Sniper Spotter Scope 17,000 EXP Secondary A pivotal advancement in enemy tracking devices, this computer assisted Spotting Scope can pin-point and communicate enemy positions in real-time to the rest of the Combat Team. Automates the spotting process with the sniper rifle. Under normal conditions, players must hit the interaction button to spot an enemy and mark their position. This enhancement reveals the positions of any sighted targets automatically, without any button presses on the player's part.

All Kits[edit]

These specializations are available to all kits. The two shotgun modifications are listed here, as shotguns can be equipped by any of the four classes (including the otherwise long-range recon class). Obviously, players must equip a shotgun in order to use the two shotgun upgrades.

Icon Specialization Unlocked At Tier Official Description Effect
BFBC2 LightweightCombatEquip.png Lightweight Combat Equipment Rank 5 Primary Designed to maximize the carrier’s mobility during battle by employing more compact equipment options. This setup dramatically spreads load and allows for a more efficient carry. Improves the user's ability to sprint 10% faster than normal. Useful as a starting specialization or to try to quickly evade snipers, but otherwise has limited use.
BFBC2 AmmoBandolier.png
Ammo Hip Bandolier Rank 6 (Corporal II) Primary This upgraded ammunition pack allows a soldier to stow double the amount of magazines resulting in extended time in contact before resupply. Maximizes the player's ammunition reserves. Effective when combined with weapons that chew through ammo quickly, such as the medic's machine guns. Affects both standard weapons and sidearms. Do not employ as an Assault class, who carry ammo for the team, or if you die often and cannot use the extra ammunition the bonus provides.
BFBC2 GrenVest.png
Grenade Vest Rank 7 (Corporal III) Primary This enhanced Load Bearing Vest doubles the amount of 40MM and hand grenade ammunition a soldier can carry into battle thus extended the time between resupply. As stated in the description, this upgrade doubles the number of both hand and 40mm grenades carried by the player. Also affects 40mm shotgun shells if an assault player chose the underbarrel shotgun instead of the standard grenade launcher. Does not affect the number of rockets, mines, or explosives carried.
BFBC2 BodyArmour.png
Ceramic Body Armour Rank 13 (Staff Sergeant I) Secondary Referred to as 'trauma plates', ceramic body armor is inserted into soft ballistic vests providing added protection against enemy fire and preventing damage from reaching fatal proportions during combat. Improves the total amount of health by 25%.
BFBC2 MagnumAmmo.png
Magnum Ammunition Rank 14 (Staff Sergeant II) Secondary A considerably heavier bullet, it’s mass and elevated muzzle velocity provides greater damage and increased range. Does not affect bullet drop for snipers. Instead, simply increases the amount of damage done by the player's bullets by 25%.
BFBC2 ImprovedDemo.png
Improved Demolitions Rank 17 (Warrant Officer III) Secondary A refined explosive compound it greatly increases the amount of energy delivered onto target. It adds to the destructive power carried by mobile infantry and engineers. Improves the damage done by all explosives by 25%. Affects all explosives, including 40mm grenades from the assault class and anti-tank missiles and mines by the engineer class.
BFBC2 ExplosivesPouch.png
Explosives Leg Pouch Rank 8 (Chief Warrant Officer I) Primary Supplementary pouches allowing soldiers to double the amount of explosives and rockets carried into battle. This permits longer time in contact before resupply. As stated in the description, this upgrade doubles the amount of C4, mines, and rockets carried. Has no effect on 40mm grenades, under-barrel shotgun shells, or hand grenades. Also doubles the amount of C4 the assault class carries if an all-class weapon is selected.
BFBC2 SGSlugs.png
12 Gauge Slugs Rank 16 (Staff Sergeant II) Primary A 12 gauge Sabot round designed to give shotguns added range in operations outside of Urban areas. It substitutes high power for enhanced range and precision accuracy. Changes the shotgun's attack from a large fan into a single focused slug. Far superior at range than standard buckshot, but has considerably less power. Shotgun slugs are affected by gravity, and are similar in practice to the sniper rifle's shots. As such, it is possible to get marksman headshots using a shotgun with this upgrade. Pump shotguns cause almost as much damage as a bolt-action sniper rifle, and semiautomatic shotguns about the same as a semiautomatic sniper rifle. Combined with the magnum ammo upgrade and a pump shotgun, 12 gauge slugs are an instant kill if hardcore is enabled, regardless of distance or shot placement.
BFBC2 SGMags.png
Extended Shotgun Magazine Rank 9 Secondary Custom modified shotgun loading tubes and magazines that expand ammunition capacity. This diminishes the need for reload and extends the operators capacity to maintain fire on target. Enables a shotgun to carry twice as much ammunition as usual. Users of this upgrade therefore have far more shots before needing to reload. Does not affect the number of bullets carried; thus this upgrade is best used by either an assault class or in conjunction with the Ammo Hip Bandolier specialization.

Vehicle[edit]

The vehicle tier is a tier on its own. Note that with the sole exception of helicopters, only the specialization of the driver applies to the vehicle. Specializations, in other words, do not stack: two quick reload upgrades will not fire faster than a single reload upgrade. The passengers, if they have weapons, do not gain any bonuses.

The exception to the above rule is the gunner seat of an attack helicopter. If the driver chooses the alternate weapon vehicle specialization, his gunner gains the ability to shoot tracer darts at targets. The pilot, meanwhile, can use guided missiles as well as the standard rocket system. The guided missiles can lock onto any target the gunner tagged with the tracer darts. The gunner's vehicle specialization does not apply.

Only one of the following may be equipped at any time.

Icon Specialization Unlocked At Official Description Effect
BFBC2 VehicleElectronic.png Electronic Warfare Package 1,180 EXP The next technological advancement in vehicle sensors, these enhanced tracking devices mark position of enemy units in direct proximity of the vehicle and display them on the mini map. Added security when infantry support is unavailable. Sets up a large motion tracking radius around your vehicle. Enemy players, landmines, and C4 are revealed on your minimap. Makes it difficult to sneak up on your vehicle to C4 it.
BFBC2 VehicleArmour.png Active Armour Upgrade 2,300 EXP An armor upgrade package that enhances a vehicle's resistance to anti-armor munitions. This upgrade helps decrease the effects and damage of otherwise lethal hits. All damage is reduced by 25%. Useful not only on tanks, but also on otherwise thin-skinned helicopters and patrol boats.
BFBC2 VehicleWarheads.png Improved Warheads Package 3,600 EXP With hardened steel warheads and quick burn explosive compounds, this upgrade substantially increases the effectiveness of the vehicles primary weapons. In turn it allows a vehicle to provide a considerable force multiplier to mission requirements. Increases damage done by 25%. Useful in helicopters, as players generally need to eliminate targets quickly whilst on the move.
BFBC2 VehicleReload.png Quick Reload Package 5,000 EXP These enhanced ammunition racks diminish the time needed to re-load the vehicles primary weapons. It reduces the vulnerability to enemy attacks during reload stops. Useful almost anywhere, but perhaps most prevalently noticed in attack helicopters and close-quarters tank fights.
BFBC2 VehicleSmoke.png Smoke Countermeasures Package 6,500 EXP A smoke grenade system consisting of 6 launchers. When fired it generates a 360 degree smoke screen around the vehicle. It obscures equipment and personnel from aimed fire. Obscures your vehicle and nearby friendlies with smoke. Vehicles and infantry in smoke cannot be spotted by enemy players. This ability also most notably negates the effects of any tracer darts on your vehicle, making this upgrade worthwhile on helicopter gunships. UAVs with this ability do not deploy tracers, but instead shoot their own smoke grenades to where the player is aiming.
BFBC2 VehicleOptics.png High Power Optics Package 8,000 EXP A High Power Optics Package that provides an armored driver the ability to engage and destroy targets from greater range. It effectively provides stand-off distance while still accurate fire. Lets the driver zoom in on a target. Extremely useful in long-distance tank fights, or on a UAV to target enemy tanks from afar.
BFBC2 VehicleAlt.png Alternate Weapon Package 10,000 EXP A weapons package that upgrades the targeting systems of vehicles and helicopters. It extends the effective range and accuracy of mounted weapons. Gives the driver of the given vehicle an additional weapon. Vehicles whose drivers lack weapons, such as the PBL, HMMVs, and Quad Bikes will not benefit from this upgrade. Tanks will gain a coaxial machine gun effective against infantry. This machine gun aims alongside the main barrel, making it far easier to dispatch enemy players on foot. IFVs - namely the BMD-3 and the Bradley - gain a TOW missile launcher, giving them more of a fighting chance against other IFVs or tanks. UAVs gain a machine gun similar to that of tanks. Attack helicopters are the only vehicles in which the passenger gets an additional weapon as well as the pilot. The gunner obtains the ability to shoot tracer darts, that can be locked onto by the pilot's new guided missiles.
