Prehistoric Stages[edit]
The first four stages take place in a prehistoric era. They will teach you about most of the basics of the game. The object that you must collect throughout each stage are bunches of coconuts. All of the coconuts that must collect are visible on the screen up until the fourth stage, where you will find a few hidden behind some blocks that you must blow up with bombs.
 The cave man is the enemy of the prehistoric era that will almost always fall into the holes that you create, and the enemy that will provide you with useful items. |
 Unlike the low-browed cavemen, it is the dinosaurs that display a modest amount of intelligence, preferring to avoid falling into holes that you create if they can avoid it. |
Stage 1[edit]
When you begin this stage, a caveman will spawn near your starting location. If you trap him in a hole and bury him, he will almost always provide you with a Freeze Panel. Collect it, and then use the nearby warp circle to be transported inside the lower enclosure. Collect the coconuts before the Freeze Panel wears off. Then clear the left side of the stage, including the one coconut that can only be reached by using the upper warp circles. When you're ready, proceed to the right side of the screen through either the middle channel (faster) or the lower channel (safer), and collect the coconuts from the bottom to the top. When the caveman inside the upper enclosure begins to walk away from the warp circle, hop on and warp inside. Bury the caveman to ensure that he does not threaten you, and collect the final coconuts inside the enclosure before leaving through the door.
Stage 2[edit]
This is the only stage to feature the cave snakes that were present in the arcade version. Start by trapping the nearby dino, and collecting the closest coconut. Then proceed up the left side. You can step on the trees at the top of the outcropping in order to obtain bombs (indicated by the red dots). Use the bombs immediately below where you collected them from in order to open a path to the four coconuts waiting inside. Then collect the remaining coconuts on the top of the left side and cross over to the right, collecting the two coconuts near the top when it's safe to do so. Continue on to the right side of the screen, and work your way down. There is another opportunity to collect bombs in case you need it, and another tree that you must blast a hole through with bombs in order to collect the four coconuts on the other side. Continue to the bottom of the stage, and then finish by traveling up through the arrangement of stone in the middle to collect the final coconuts and exit through the door.
Stage 3[edit]
You have the option to proceed clockwise or counter-clockwise around the outside perimeter of this stage, but clockwise is generally safer and faster. Once you loop all the way around the stage, collecting all of the outside coconuts, you must double back to the right side of the stage, where you will find the only springboard that is capable of transporting you to any part of the land inside the lake. Watch out for the dinosaur that patrols this area before you jump, and trap him as soon as you can. It's a good idea to dig two holes around the dino's spawn panel to prevent him from being a nuisance. Collect the three coconuts that you can reach, and then walk up to the top of the outer island. Dig a hole where a blue dot is indicated on the map to make the bridge extend so that you can reach the inner island (don't forget to fill the hole back in before you proceed). Then collect the final four coconuts while trapping or eluding the caveman, and enter the door.
Stage 4[edit]
This stage is broken into segments, which has the benefit of limiting the number of enemies that can attack you at any given moment. From the lower left corner, work your way north and stand on the two white blocks that lie in your path to the left. These blocks actually provide you with bombs. Collect some, and watch out for the caveman on the other side. Proceed to the left and up and begin blasting the white blocks to your right with bombs. There are exactly three coconuts hidden in the walls that you must reveal and collect before moving on. Collect more bombs if necessary before proceeding to the right, and blast away the single block in your path. Deal with the caveman, and prepare to blast away the blocks to the south. You will find two more coconuts hidden in the blocks as you create a path to the right. One more set of blocks must be blown away in order for you to reach the interior of the stage, where three coconuts are hidden. Once you have gained access to the interior, watch out for the dinosaurs while you collect the remaining coconuts and exit through the door.
