Feudal Japan Stages[edit]
The next four stages take place in the era of feudal Japan. These stages probably bare the most resemblance to the original arcade version, with the levels primarily composed of alleyways between buildings. The object that you must collect throughout each stage are scrolls. With only a handful of secrets and hidden scrolls, there isn't a lot that you have to uncover. Just watch out for dead-ends.
 The ninjas of the area are fearless, and carry useful items. Therefore, they are likely to fall into your traps and leave gadgets behind that you can use. |
 Compared to the ninjas, the regular townsfolk are much more cautious, and are far less likely to run right into a hole that you dig unless you dig it out from under their feet at the last second. |
Stage 5[edit]
This stage is composed of one big island, with four smaller islands in each corner. You begin on the island in the lower left corner. The main goal is to clear the big island while visiting each of the outer island in a clockwise fashion. From the island in the lower left, cross over the north bridge and make your way up to the upper left island. Use the springboards to get on and off the island. Then cross over to the right. To access the upper right island, you must dig a hole where the blue dot indicates on the map in order to create a bridge. Once the bridge appears, fill in the hole and proceed, but watch out for any enemies ahead and behind you. Once you are finished there, make sure that you find all remaining scrolls on the main island before heading for the island in the lower right corner. This is a one way trip, so if you miss any scrolls on the main island, you can't go back and retrieve them. If you are sure you are ready, use the springboard when the enemy by the exit is not standing near your landing point, and hop over to clear the stage.
Stage 6[edit]
There are a lot of branching pathways on this stage, and a majority of the ones you encounter early on are dead-ends that do not contain any scrolls. In order to start out in the right direction, take the southern most route until you're roughly halfway across the stage, then take the upper path. That will get you past the useless dead-ends. Then you'll need to follow the path that bends around to the lower left corner of the stage. Begin traveling up the right side of the stage, but once again, only travel as far as half way across the stage before taking the path that leads left, just below the line of trees. Once you reach the top of the stage and head down the alley to the right of the exit, you will find the majority of the scrolls that are stashed away in this one area of the stage. Gather then up and head for the exit, watching out for any enemies in this close proximity.
Stage 7[edit]
In order to do well on this stage, it pays to be suspicious of any portion of a building that appears to have a black doorway opening in the front. If you can't pass through it as a result of it being a bomb depot, you can most likely blow it up with bombs in order to gain access to the passages beyond. Start by heading north along the left side of the stage, and pause inside the doorways that provide you with bombs until you collect 9 of them. Continue up to the top of the stage, this time blowing up the doorways with your bombs, not only to gain access to the scrolls on the other side, but also to reveal scrolls inside the doorways themselves. After collecting the two scrolls in the upper left portion of the stage, return down to the starting location at the bottom, and begin working your way along the bottom of the stage, using bombs to blow up the two open doorways, and revealing a scroll in the rubble. Proceed right and pick up all the scrolls you find in the lower half of the stage until you find another doorway in the lower right corner of the stage. Use a bomb to blow it up, and proceed north along the side of the stage. Access the two springboards to collect the last of the scrolls and cross the bridge to the exit in the center of the stage.
Stage 8[edit]
Your suspicion of any black doorways must continue on this stage. In addition to the doorways, you should also pay close attention to any trees that have signs posted on them, as this is also an indication that you can blow them up and create paths through them. Start by heading to the center of the stage, and stand in the doorway of the structure just south of you to collect bombs. Clear the area below of scrolls and then take the north path until you reach a tree with a sign in front. Use a bomb to blow up the tree and gain access to the scrolls along the left side of the stage. Then double back to the center. Proceed right and blow up the doorway that blocks access to three more scrolls. A little more to the right, you'll find an area with two doorways along the bottom of the stage. One spot can be used to obtain bombs, and you can use those bombs to break a hole in the wall right nearby to gain access to the scrolls along the right side of the stage. Then return and head up the path just on the other side of the wall. Use bombs on the tree with the sign in front on your way up to collect two more scrolls. Then proceed to the very top of the stage. Bomb the trees with the signs in front on the left to reveal the final scroll, and then bomb the tree with the sign in front to create a path to the exit, and leave.
