Children of Mana does not have many different items in it, so it's easy to accumulate and sell some kinds of item. However, unlike some Mana games, you cannot accumulate large numbers of items until you get 99 of them - there are limits to how many you may have in your inventory. This limit can be increased (from 8 up to 24) by buying a new knapsack, and is the same for all of these items based on which knapsack you have. All consumable items are recovery items in one way or another and can be bought, found in chests, discovered by breaking pots or dropped by recently deceased enemies.

The restorative effects of items can be enhanced up to 2 or 5 times by certain gem arrangements and particular gems, but there may be drawbacks, such as being more susceptible to status effects, so there is no 'magic' or 'ultimate' gem arrangement in this respect.
