Suggested Party Level: 26
Similar to the first Nizbel fight, only attacking him raises his defense, and shocking him lowers it. He has increased speed so you won't be able to drown him in Lightning like you could on Nizbel. Have Chrono use Lightning magic pretty consistently, have Ayla use dual techs and healing techniques (group if possible) and the third member help with dual techs and healing if possible.
Nizbel II only has three attacks, an individual rush, a rush where he hits all three of your characters and where he releases stored energy, like the first Nizbel.
As energy gets stored within him, the damage you deal will increase by about 200 every time, so long as you don't hit him with physical attacks it will continue to grow until he releases his stored energy, at which point you'll go back down to normal damage for one round.
At level 26, you'll probably have access to Slurp Kiss, Volt Bite and Spire. The strategy for Nizbel is to never hit him with a normal attack, since his defense gets reduced more and more (eventually doing incredible amounts of damage). Equip one of the three with the rage band, since he does group attacks; the band will probably end up adding an additional 400-1200 damage during the battle.
If you focus Chrono and Ayla completely on casting Volt Bites and have Frog wait to heal whenever needed, you'll save MP while taking him down in just a few hits. By the end of the fight, you'll probably see hits of over 1400 damage!
Azala attacks: Teleportation/Psychokinesis. Teleportation will summon a rock to smash one person, doing about 70 damage, and Psychokinesis will throw one of your party members around, doing about 70 damage, and maybe putting them to sleep. When Azala dies, he'll use Azala Break, which inflicts HP Down and does about 30 physical damage to everyone.
Black Tyrano attacks: Fire Breath/Slurp/5,4,3,2,1/0. Fire Breath and Slurp will target one character each. 5,4,3,2 and 1 will all be simply a roar which deals no damage, but counts as an attack - if you have a rage band equipped you can counter attack the roar! 0 (release of stored power) will damage all of your characters for between 100 and 300 damage depending on whether or not you're wearing Ruby Vests.
First of all, make sure you're wearing Ruby Vests on all three characters. Note that the Black Tyrano is mostly fire based, so he won't be dealing much damage to your party if you have the equipment. Second, Azala is weak to lightning, and the Tyrano is weak to physical (once his defense is down).
Focus all your attacks on Azala first. Use your strongest lightning attacks, as physical damage doesn't seem to have too much of an effect on him. Keep going and going at it and eventually you'll defeat him. Now try to attack the Black Tyrano. Not much damage? Wait a little while and she will shut off her defense to begin a countdown (storing energy?). Heal your party, and hit it with your most powerful attacks (physical or magic) as it's counting down. Once she hits zero, Black Tyrano will throw out a massive Fire Breath attack on your party, hitting each character twice. Heal up the damage and begin the same way, hitting her with all you've got once she's vulnerable. While you're waiting just use normal attacks so you don't waste MP.
You can actually lose this fight and the scene will turn out the same. I recommend not even trying at this point of the game. But if you really want to try it out, see techniques for Golem Twins.
You can technically take it out much earlier, and I'm not sure it's worth mentioning as a boss. Just a few large physical attacks and he'll be 'krawling' away. ^_^
As their appearance suggests, the Blue Beast absorbs all Water/Ice magic, and is weak against Fire. Likewise, the Red Beast absorbs all Fire magic, and is weak against Water/Ice. The Mud Imp is particularly annoying since he has high defense, heals the other beasts and himself, and runs away if you kill the other beasts and don't finish him off fast enough.
The hands down best strategy for this boss is to use Crono, Frog and Lucca. Use Lucca's Hypno Wave on the beasts; they'll sleep while you pummel the Mud Imp with Spire or something better. Make sure not to use AOE attacks (they might wake the beasts) and if the Mud Imp kicks a rock at one, just cast Hypno Wave again. If you kill the Mud Imp, the beasts will die automatically (easy fight).
Unless you're very leveled up in magic and have good Dual Techs, this will be an annoyingly long battle. Concentrate on one Beast at a time. Dual Techs like Swordstream, Glacier (I seriously doubt you have it yet), Bubble Hit and Ice Sword (you might have these) work well on the Red Beast. Red Pin, Fire Sword, and Napalm work well on the Blue Beast. Don't attack the Mud Imp until you've destroyed the Beasts, because he has a disgustingly high defense against anything. Use powerful physical attacks like X-Strike, and you should do well.
First of all, you can charm the head of Giga Gaia to get a Speed Tab. Giga Gaia will do some nasty Fire and Shadow attacks with both hands, so equipping one or more of the following will come in handy if you have them (to absorb/reduce damage): the Red Mail, Red Vest, Black Mail, or Black Vest (three if possible). The hands attack twice in a row, fire first, then shadow. Sometimes the right hand will heal the head for 250 HP.
It's recommended that you have a group healer (Frog or Robo) to heal the party periodically after taking significant target or AOE damage. Remember that Dual Tech healings are extremely good, especially Ayla and Frog's Slurp Kiss which only costs two TP total. Attack with your best multi-enemy techs when the arms are both alive, such as Lightning 2, Fire 2, etc. or even Frog Squash/Luminaire if you have them.
Attack with your best single-enemy techs when only the head is alive. Chrono's Spincut is a good attack, as well as Frog's Leap Slash. Ayla is a goddess with her physical attacks and Cat Attack, but the rest of the party members don't have many effective attacks. Chrono and Ayla's dual tech Falcon Hit is an excellent way to kill the arms because it will hit both of them for around 1000 damage. When the arms are revived they should be weaker than before so just a few techs should finish them off. Try to use physical attacks more than magic, but if you've got powerful magic then go right ahead. Dual techs, especially with Ayla and Crono are a good choice. If you choose heavy attacks and choose them quickly, this battle should be a breeze for you. After a couple rounds of defeating the arms, you can say goodbye to Giga Gaia.
Dalton enjoys being annoying. You can tell this because he copies all your techniques and magic. And his Iron Orb will drop your HP by half, so have a character ready to heal at every turn. Just hit him with your best attacks, do it quickly, and be ready to heal...a lot... and you should do fine.
This can be a very gruesome fight, because of their attacks and how fast they can dish them out. Watch out for their Iron Orb, which cuts your HP by one half. They also have a Copycat ability, which copies every technique you use on them. If you cast Lightning on them, they give you a big dose of Lightning 2. This can be a very challenging battle because there's two of them, and they usually attack the same character two or more times in a row. Focus all your most powerful attacks on one of them, and have one character heal the party at every turn. Once you've beaten one of them, it should take a little bit of stress off of destroying the other one. There is a special tactic that can save you though. The fact is that their copied Fire and Water skills suck, so you'll always want to make them copy those. Meaning this: Dish out all the damage you can, then use a Fire or Water tech just before you think they'll attack.
Much more powerful than the normal outer shell of Lavos.
This boss does not attack.
This guy is so scared of heights that he won't even attack you. Just beat the life out of him with normal attacks since your MPs are not worth wasting on this fellow.
You will fight him if you decide to take the Rainbow Shell sidequest before fighting Lavos in the Guardia Court(1000 A.D.). This guy is a whole lot powerful than his ancestor though. You need a healer in your party, preferably Marle with Life2 and Cure2. In the beginning keep using TripleTechs(I used Arc Impulse with Crono, Marle and Frog). Then when he talks about hearing about a move from his ancestors, make sure everybody in your party is fully healed since this attack does massive damage (it's NeedleSpin Version 13). When he does this use each of your character's most powerful technique or second most powerful technique (if you don't have the former). If you have Crono's Luminaire you can deal massive damage with each blow. After he dies, he will cast NeedleSpin on all of your characters so make sure they have more than 300HP (it doesn't matter if one or two of them die since you can heal after the battle finishes).
This can be a very annoying battle because of how quickly he counter-attacks. You MUST have Frog and Marle in your party. I cannot stress this enough. Ayla is a good 3rd choice. Make sure you have Water 2 or Ice 2, and Double Cure isn't a bad idea, either. All set? Good. DO NOT ATTACK THE CORE!! Once the core is destroyed, Retinite will start coughing up some nasty counter attacks like Sand Cyclone and a variation of Prism/Darkness, and its defense power is increased when you attack it. Instead, start the battle with a dose of Water 2 (Ice 2 works just as well). This will lower his defense power. Then start attacking the upper half. Use all your strongest attacks to detroy it as soon as possible. Cast Water 2 or Ice 2 occasionally to weaken the defense. Okay. You've gotten that done. If you did it fast, the core should still be there. DO NOT ATTACK IT. Go for the bottom half. Pretty much its only attack is Sand Cyclone, but watch out when it starts stomping on you! That'll take a good 300+ HP off. Heal when necessary, and keep hitting it with everything you have. Now it's just you and the core. This only takes about one hit, and it runs away. Congrats! You've done it. :) And as an extra gift, grab that shiny Power Tab on your way out. ;)
This will be a fairly gimmicky fight, you'll only want to attack the flames surrounding the Son of Sun and hope you hit the right one, since it will counter-attack with Flare if you try to hit the center. The individual flames will also counter-attack with fire if you hit the "wrong" one. It's advised that you equip the Red Mail to absorb fire, as many Ruby Armors as you bought, the Red Vest, and the Taban suit if you have Lucca and picked it up from Taban. If you hit the right flame, it will do damage to the center sphere, and keep attacking it until it shuffles, then try for another one. After you hit the correct flame enough times, the Son of Sun will lose its fire and turn into a moon stone. If you have fire resistant equipment this battle should be easy enough.
