Code Geass HnL Stage 0 question.png
Choose a name for your original character.

The game will start off with a prologue. Before the game can get to the opening cutscenes, you'll have to answer a few questions for Zero. You are now joining the Black Knights and Zero wants to know about you. For the first question, answer according to the gender you want your player character to be: 男 (Male) or 女 (Female). Zero then asks you if you're sure, to which you can respond はい (Yes) to progress in the conversation or いいえ (No) to go back to the first question. After answering your gender, Zero will ask you about your name. Choose the second option (いいえ (No)) and you'll be brought to a different screen to choose your name. After typing it in, press Enter and then Yes to continue the conversation. Then, Zero will ask you a final question. Choose はい (Yes) to continue the game or いいえ (No) to be brought back to the title screen. If you chose はい (Yes), Zero will ask you a final question. Choose はい (Yes) and you'll be brought to the cutscene preceding Stage 1.

Stage 1: The Day the Demon Was Born[edit]

Use the stylus to select one of the options.

The stage will start off with some dialogue. Lelouch will then use his Geass on a Special Ops soldier. You get to choose the command, though they all result in the same thing. There are four options to choose here:

  • 貴様たちは死ね (Die)
  • 消え失せろ (Disappear)
  • 己を滅ぼせ (Destroy yourself)
  • 自決しろ (Go suicide)

When you've made your decision, the point of view will eventually switch to Kallen Stadtfeld and Kaname Ohgi, members of a resistance group. After a conversation, you'll get to play as Kallen on the field, but not for long. Walk north a bit and you'll run into your first battle against the pilot of a government airship. The battle will start off with a tutorial. Go through every one of the options for a walkthrough of what each option will do. Once the last option, Escape, has been explained to you, you can start the battle. Drag the option you'd like to use over who you want to use it on (for example, drag Attack on to the portrait of the opposing soldier on the touch screen) to start off the battle. In traditional turn-based style, your opponent will attack you next, and then it'll be your turn to make a move and so on. After three attacks, the airship should be destroyed and you'll win the battle. All of your stats will increase (including your level) and you'll be back on the field.

The only thing you have to do in the first few battles is select the "Attack" option repeatedly.

Walk north and then left to reach a dead end with a Pizza Hut box. Touch it for a new item, リペア (Repair), which restores 500 HP when used. Save it for battle and head back to where you were. This time, take the left path. Another fork in the road makes you choose between left and south. Head south first and you'll find another Pizza Hut box, this one containing a wallpaper. Go back to the fork and, by this time, you should reach another encounter. This time you'll face a government tank. Four attacks should defeat it. A level up will be in place after defeating the soldier. Head left this time and then north to a dead end. Two soldiers will confront you now. These soldiers have Knightmares. This battle should be a different tougher than the others. Their attacks will be stronger and, to make matters worse, there's two of them. Use your most powerful skill freely here; it's likely that you'll regain the points to use it after each turn of the enemy attacking you. Use a リペア (Repair) item only if your HP is at 300 or below and you won't be able to defeat the enemies in one turn. By the time the battle is over, you should hit Level 5.

Unexpected Help[edit]

After the battle, a cutscene will show a conversation between Zero/Lelouch (labelled as "???") and Kallen. Lelouch gives Kallen instructions on where to go and you'll reach a different area of the map with railroad tracks. Go to the other side of the bridge and open the Pizza Hut box for another Repair item. Go up the bridge for some tougher encounters (for example, multiple tanks and airships). On the left side of the north side of the bridge is another Pizza Hut box, containing the usual. Reach the end and Lelouch will show you where to go next. Keep going (a pizza box is on the way) in the same direction. Soon enough, Kallen encounters Jeremiah Gottwald. You'll have to fight him and a soldier to continue on the path. After your second attack, Lelouch will arrive in his own Knightmare to help you out. He takes out the soldier with one shot, leaving Kallen and Lelouch to corner Jeremiah. The battle shouldn't be too hard to finish from here.

A helping hand comes in the form of a mysterious strategist going by the name "Zero".

After the next cutscene, Ohgi and Shinichirō Tamaki join Kallen and soldiers block paths in an area similar to the first field stage. Your goal here will be to avoid them. This can be quite challenging with the area's maze-like layout, but luckily, Lelouch will be there to help you out. Whenever you get too close to soldiers, he'll warn you and show you which way you should go. Using Lelouch as your guide, you should eventually reach a couple of soldiers to defeat in battle. Afterward, follow Lelouch's compass for another couple of soldiers to blindside. Go to the dead end for a pizza box containing リペアALL (Repair ALL) which restores 500 HP to every Knightmare in your party when used. After fighting another group of two soldiers, the exit will be blocked by three soldiers. This shouldn't be too challenging considering it's three on three. After the battle, a cutscene shows the rebel forces, thanks to the assistance of Lelouch, taking complete control of the ghetto. With the annihilation of Britannian Knightmares, Clovis la Britannia calls Lloyd Asplund, the leader of the Britannian research team "Camelot", to put an end to the mess. Cécile Croomy, a scientist in Camelot, then introduces the Lancelot Albion Knightmare frame to Suzaku Kururugi, its new pilot.

The New Knightmare[edit]

Eventually, Lelouch is confronted by Suzaku Kururugi in the Lancelot, leading into a battle. Choose your first option and then sit back and watch as the Lancelot abolishes Lelouch's Knightmare in one hit. Luckily for Lelouch, he's able to escape with his life when Kallen arrives to help out. Lelouch is now free to escape and use his Geass on a Special Ops soldier. The options are as follows:

  • 息をするな (Stop breathing)
  • ここを通せ (Let pass)
  • 眠れ (Sleep)
  • 踊ってろ (Dance)

Every option has a different effect but the result is the same; no matter the option chosen, Lelouch is able to pass. The point of view will switch back to Kallen, who's in a battle with Suzaku. After a couple of turns, Clovis will interfere through communication with Suzaku's Lancelot. Clovis, for some strange reason, tells Suzaku to stop fighting the enemy. The point of view then switches back to Lelouch, who has a gun aimed at Clovis. Lelouch wants some information about his mother from Clovis. Again, you'll get some Geass options:

  • 殺したのは誰だ? (Who was the killer?)
  • オマエが殺したのか? (Did you kill her?)
  • 真実を話せ! (Speak the truth!)
  • 手がかりを知るのは誰だ? (Who knows about this?)

Choose any option and watch the cutscenes leading to Stage 2.
