Counter-Strike: Source comes with a variety of default maps, based around either bomb defusal or hostage rescue.

Bomb defusal[edit]

In bomb defusal maps, the objective for the terrorists is to plant the C4 at a bomb site, and defend it from the counter-terrorists until it explodes. The objective for the counter-terrorists, obviously, is to prevent the terrorists from planting the bomb – or if they do manage to plant it – defuse it before it goes off. Bomb defusal maps are more popular than hostage rescue maps, perhaps because there are more of them, but also perhaps because people tend to ignore the hostages in hostage rescue maps, and just treat them like a more conventional team deathmatch.

Win conditions[edit]

Counter-terrorists:

  • All terrorists dead
  • Bomb not planted before time runs out
  • Bomb defused

Terrorists:

  • All counter-terrorists dead
  • Bomb goes off

Maps[edit]

Hostage rescue[edit]

In hostage rescue maps, the objective for the counter-terrorists is to find and rescue the four hostages from the clutches of the terrorist team. To rescue the hostages, a counter-terrorist must go up to them and press use, then escort them (hopefully without getting them killed) to a hostage rescue area, where they will vanish to safety. The objective for the terrorists is to prevent the counter-terrorists taking the hostages to safety. One important fact to bear in mind is that the terrorists can't move the hostages at all.

Win conditions[edit]

Counter-terrorists:

  • All terrorists dead
  • All hostages rescued

Terrorists:

  • All counter-terrorists dead
  • Some hostages unrescued before time runs out
