2×4[edit]

Dead-rising-2x4.jpg
Locations
  • North Plaza amidst the construction, atop the tall shelves in the Warehouse
  • Cinema 1 in Colby's Movieland
  • Paradise Plaza
  • There is an infinite supply of 2×4s inside Crislip's Home Saloon (L2) in North Plaza and in McHandy's Hardware (A105) in Al Fresca Plaza.
Lasts
  • 20 hits

A piece of wood normally used in construction. You can find it pretty much anywhere. It's most commonly found in the North Plaza. It is a bit slow, but it's quite powerful. It breaks after a medium amount of damage has been done.

Assault Rifle[edit]

Locations
  • From Special Forces around the mall
  • From one of the three survivors in Huntin' Shack, North Plaza.
Lasts
  • 150 rounds

Weapons used by the Special Forces that have been sent to clear out the mall. The assault rifle is easily the best firearm in the game, and really one of the better weapons overall. Its magazine contains 150 rounds which is more than any other gun, and it only takes one burst of three or four rounds to kill a zombie and roughly 30 rounds to kill one of the Special Forces soldiers. However, you shouldn't try to use this weapon against the Special Forces soldiers if you are on the same level as them, as their fire will stun you and make it hard for you to shoot back.

The easiest way to kill them is to rush one with a powerful weapon like the battle axe or katana, kill him, take his rifle, then climb on top of something high enough that they cannot return fire and shoot the reinforcements as they arrive. For example, the Lego building with the SMG atop it in Wonderland Plaza works well for this, as do the tops of the shelves in the warehouse. There is an achievement for not missing with an assault rifle, which is easily done by shooting all 150 of the bullets into a carcass in the meat processing room.

Baking Ingredients[edit]

Dead rising baking ingredients.jpg

Barbell[edit]

Dead Rising barbell.jpg
Location
  • Flexin' (A104) in Al Fresca Plaza
Lasts
  • 50 hits

A heavy and powerful improvised weapon, the barbell is also somewhat unwieldy. It can mow down crowds of zombies, but its slow swing and recovery may make you vulnerable to a counterattack.

Baseball Bat[edit]

Dead rising baseball bat.png
Locations
  • Throughout the mall. Often found in trash cans, in cardboard boxes, under some trees in Leisure Park.
  • Found in all sporting goods stores.
  • Lying next to the steel rack on the rooftop.
Lasts
  • 38 hits

Instantly recognizable as one of the classic zombie weapons, the baseball bat is effective. Frank swings it horizontally, attacking multiple foes at once. However, the bat breaks comparatively quickly. If the player holds down the attack button, it charges up the bat for a swing which knocks zombies back.

Battle Axe[edit]

Dead rising battle axe.jpg
Location
  • Ned's Knickknackery in Entrance Plaza behind the glass.
Lasts
  • 25 hits

It is very powerful and kills zombies as easily as the Katana. It is slow but has a very large range for killing multiple Zombies in less swings. It breaks after mild usage. If the player holds down the attack button, then it charges up the Battle Axe and can be released making frank spin around with the battle axe, cutting most enemies in his near radius.

Bench[edit]

Dead rising bench.jpg
Location
  • Around the mall.
Lasts
  • 25 hits

The bench is an excellent ramming weapon. Frank West picks up the bench by the end and charges towards the enemy like a battering ram, knocking over a large number of enemies and causing moderate damage.

There are two attacks with the chainsaw, a quick swing or a brutal spin, and you gain PP for every enemy you kill with the spin attack.

Chainsaw, small[edit]

Dead rising small chain saw.png
Location
  • Near the controls for the Space Ride Rollercoaster in Wonderland Plaza after defeating Adam.
Lasts
  • 80 hits

If Adam the Clown disappointed his family with his choice of career, he didn't disappoint us with his choice of weaponry. His mini chainsaws do maximum damage against other psychopaths and slice limbs like butter. This is the strongest weapon in the game (aside from the unlockable Mega Buster), and it also lasts longer. This item is respawnable in the same area. This item is one of the only ones that can be strengthened three times by picking up three types of magazines. They are the Entertainment magazine, the Engineering Magazine, and the Criminal Biography Magazine. With these three in effect, the player can kill 2,700 zombies. The rival for this weapon is the heavy machine gun, which is the strongest in ranged weapons.

Survivor tip: be careful using this when escorting, as it can hit your charge easily and knock their health down.

Garbage Can[edit]

Dead rising garbage can.png
Locations
  • Throughout the mall
Lasts
  • 20 hits

If thrown it will reveal more weapons hidden inside, usually hunting knives, baseball bats and handguns.

Why were people throwing away perfectly good handguns during a zombie outbreak?

Gems[edit]

Dead rising gems.jpg
Locations
  • Josh's Jewels in Paradise Plaza
  • Marriage Makers in Paradise Plaza
Lasts
  • 10 gems

Found in jewelry stores and can be thrown with high power. It is almost impossible to kill a zombie with gems before you reach level 35 or so, but they are still fun to throw. Smash the glass, snatch them and run.

The gems are also a fantastic metaphor, showcasing perfectly how the horrors of desperation modify the human psyche and warp our perceptions of reality removing all sense of morality and permanently changing us as human beings. In regular everyday life, these gems were probably priceless artifacts, most likely coming in at hundreds or even thousands of dollars a piece. However, when constantly staring death in the face during a zombie attack, their immense value is simply forgotten, and they become just another weapon, desperately used to buy oneself just another few minuets of life. Its chilling actually, when you think about it.

Deep, huh?

Dead Rising golf club.jpg

  • From survivor Jeff on the rooftop at the very beginning of the game

  • TuneMakers in Paradise Plaza
Lasts
  • 40 hits

Make Frank wield this weapon and he'll swing around the guitar, which can cause some massive damage to a zombie. When swung, it can clear a large area in front of Frank, but unfortunately he needs a second or two to recover after whacking some zombies.

Note: There are four types of guitars: Bass, Acoustic and 2 Electric. Acoustic seems to cause more damage, while Electric is a bit faster, because its recovery time is about half of the Acoustic's.Also each guitar is swung in a different motion.

Gumball Machine[edit]

Dead rising gumball machine 2.jpg
Dead Rising gumball machine.jpg
Location
  • In front of the Cinema Shop in Colby's Movieland, Paradise Plaza
  • Inside of Cinema 1 in Colby's Movieland, Paradise Plaza
  • Playgrounds in Wonderland Plaza
Lasts
  • 25 hits

This weapon works just like any other heavy object in Dead Rising, but it's filled with colored gumballs. When thrown and smashed, the gumballs will make the zombies lose their balance and fall over. This makes it a great weapon if you want to escape, or if you want a hilarious picture for extra PP.

Hand gun[edit]

Dead Rising hand gun.jpg
Locations
  • From zombie police around the mall.
  • Huntin' Shack in North Plaza.
  • Garbage cans around the mall.
  • Dropped by Brad after unlocking the Brad Death cutscene.
Lasts
  • 30 rounds

The handgun is the second firearm you get in the game, if you got the Entrance Plaza shotgun in the beginning. It doesn't have much stopping power, and has 30 shots. It is useful for taking out single zombies or early bosses. A majority of the police zombies carry guns, which they drop if attacked. It is not necessary to kill them; you only have to hit them, or bump into them.

  • 200 rounds

This M2 Browning machine gun is mounted on the back of a military Humvee, stolen by escaped convicts. It is possible for Frank to pry the weapon from the vehicle and use it himself, although it is so big it cannot be stored in the inventory and movement is restricted. It contains 200 rounds. While the mini chainsaw obtained from Adam is the strongest in melee weapons, the machine gun obtained from the Convicts is the strongest in ranged weapons as it can kill some psychopaths in 4+ shots.

Location
  • All around the mall
Lasts
  • 3 hits

When you see a zombie eating a hand, kick him and pick it up as he drops it. Now you can jam it into his mouth and prevent him from biting you. It is a very weak weapon, but fun to watch. It can also be thrown to draw enemies away from you(or towards you, depending on where you throw it), as they will instead walk towards the hunk of meat.

Hunting Knife[edit]

Dead rising hunting knife.png
Location
  • Ripper's Blade in North Plaza
  • Raincoat cult around the mall
  • In garbage cans

The hunting knife is used with highly effective swipes. The weapon is effective, but with short killing distance, leaving Frank prone to being surrounded. These are common items found easily in every area. They are most commonly found in the hands of yellow Hawaiian shirt-wearing zombies. This is also the weapon the raincoat cultists wield (although it's not obtainable from them).

Katana[edit]

Dead Rising katana.jpg

  • Ripper's Blade in North Plaza
  • In Cardboard boxes
  • Ned's Knickknackery (Entrance Plaza)

In the Paradise Plaza, you find it by jumping off the ledge near the Orange Juice stand in the Food Court of the Plaza. It is a very quick and effective weapon. It breaks quickly. Although this breaks quickly, it always respawns in the same place and is one of the most effective weapons in the game. Be sure to have this in the boss fights. You'll want some guns too for head shots.

Lasts
  • 20 hits (small)
  • 30 hits (big)

This weapon is probably the most explosive in the game. Not meant to be picked up and used as a physical weapon, since it is incredibly slow, and does little damage. Meant to be picked up and moved around, then placed or thrown into an advantageous spot, where you can then whip out a gun and shoot the tank, causing it to explode, causing massive damage in a large radius. Excessive physical attacks and the bullets of the Special Forces may cause the tank to explode, so take caution of lunging zombies.

Some zombies are being controlled by a queen; when you kill them, they will release this small flying insect. The queen can then be collected in a glass jar (Frank will produce one automatically, you don't have to have any in your inventory) and used like a grenade. Throw it and all zombies within a 10ft radius will die. Should always try to have one of these with you at all times in case of emergency.

The easiest way to find queens is by listening for a high-pitched buzzing, or looking for a zombie standing still, looking up with its arms clawing slowly above its head.

The shotgun is a powerful gun. When shot it can take out several enemies. But while it is powerful at close range, it is considerably weaker if shooting at enemies from afar. The shotgun is one of the best guns to have around, as it can take out many zombies easily making it useful in escaping or clearing a path.

The shotgun can also be found at the start of the game in the middle of a large group of zombies eating from one of the corpses near the center of the Entrance Plaza, just after the mall gets overrun and the mission is to get up the stairs to safety.

The skateboard is a simple weapon/tool, just jump on and ride around. It's great for getting out of a crowd, or if you have to get around quickly. It's relatively fast, and usually it's a one-hit kill if you run head-on with a zombie. It doesn't run out quickly when you're riding, but if you're mowing down zombies you can kill about three (unless you have the three books which in that case you can hit about 81 zombies before the board breaks).

Sniper Rifle[edit]

Locations

Lasts
  • 30 rounds

The sniper rifle is a useful weapon for taking out bosses. Like most sniper rifles, the gun is good at long distances. The gun is preferred for bosses rather than zombies, because zombies are quite easy to kill with any weapon, whereas the sniper rifle only shoots one bullet at a time. It is not useful for clearing crowds of zombies, thus it is often best to save the snipers for the bosses that need many strong hits to take down.
