Here are the equipment types in Diablo. The item value is shown by the color of its name:
- White Text: These are the most common pieces of equipment, with no special properties.
- Blue Text: These are equipment with magical properties. They are rarer to find or very expensive. They can have at most two magical properties. Their magical properties take effect only after they have been identified by Cain or with a Scroll of Identify.
- Gold Text: These pieces of equipment are one of a kind and very valuable. They cannot be purchased, you can only get them by defeating a boss or completing a side quest. They can also have more than two magical properties. However, they too must be identified for their magical powers to take effect.
Swords[edit]
They are the ideal weapons for a warrior: quite powerful and generally require only one hand, giving the possibility to even hold a shield.

Axes[edit]
Axes are fit only for the warrior and are the most powerful weapons he can use. However, both hands are required to hold them.

Staves[edit]
Staffs are pretty much the mandatory weapon for wizards. However, they are not useful for fighting, but they almost always have magical charges, which can be used to cast spells without consuming Mana

Bows[edit]
Long-range weapons made specially for rogues. Bows keep both hands busy at all times and the supply of arrows is unlimited. They allow you to avoid damage from hand-to-hand combat, but are less powerful than short-range weapons.

Shields[edit]
Shields are essentially used to block enemy attacks in hand-to-hand combat. They are typically only used by warriors. They also increase your armor class.

Armour[edit]
Armor is the main element that determines your defense. The heavier ones can usually only be used by the warrior, due to the high strength value required. They can also change your character's appearance depending on the armour's level:
- Level 1: Clothes and leather armors
- Level 2: Chain and ringed mails
- Level 3: Heavy armor
