Stage 1: Home Town World[edit]

This being the first stage, it is naturally the easiest one. Use it to get used to the way Donald jumps, the way the bombs fly through the air, and the way that several enemies behave. After Mayor McCheese wishes you "Good luck!" jump up to the right and collect the bomb tile. Watch out for spring monsters and purple pumpkins that rise out of crates. You can jump on the heads of spring monsters or toss an apple bomb at them to remove them, but purple pumpkins self-destruct on their own. Watch out for the dynamite that get thrown by mobsters; they can catch your bombs and send them back to you. Collect the hamburgers that you encounter. When you reach two columns of crates, jump from the lower stack to the top of the tree behind you. An enemy will appear from the tall stack, which you can bomb if you stand on the edge of the tree trunk. Collect the Donald tile behind a mobster for an extra life. Watch out for the spring monster at the top of a pyramid of crates. After jumping over another tall column of crates, you will see a bird flying low to the ground, followed by another bird higher up. Instead of bombing them, use them as platforms to reach the heart higher up in the sky.

Woodpeckers will appear later in the game as a regular enemy, but this woodpecker stands between you and the next stage. He climbs up and down the tree, pecking the wood every now and then, which causes three pink balls to fall down from the leaves. If they collide with Donald from above, they will harm him, although you can jump on top of them and remain safe. To quickly eliminate the woodpecker, quickly run up to him and toss a bomb at him when he is at his lowest point on the tree. If you time your toss correctly, the bomb will stick and eliminate him with one explosion. If you miss, wait until the pink balls disappear before trying again.

Stage 2: Lake Side World[edit]

Donald Land Stage 2 screen.png

This stage is one of the most difficult stages in the first half of the game, partially for it's length, but particularly for the difficult jumps that you will be presented with. It starts out with a small mystery for you to solve: how to collect the extra life in the tree. The trick is to toss an apple bomb out ahead of you, and immediately jump up after it in order to land on it and jump back off of it to reach the treetop. Hold the jump button down, and Donald will automatically jump when he lands on the bomb. Don't waste too much time attempting to collect it, or you may lose a life in the process. Hold down B button in order to run faster as you attempt to jump over the first pond, and don't worry too much about the lizard that hops out of the water. Hopping on top of the tree trunks with faces on them typically makes tiles appear above them. The bridge made out of logs falls apart when you stand on it, so never stop moving when you land on it. You will encounter woodpeckers in this level, but you don't have to fight them. In fact, you can stand on the second woodpecker's head to use it as a platform to reach the burger tiles in the sky. When you see a crying child, be careful. The child can't hurt you, but his tears can. On top of that, the child can't be eliminated with bombs. After the first crying child, you will reach a stretch of water that is too long for Donald to jump over. However, a ship in the background will fire three cannonballs into the air. These cannonballs actually help you by creating splashes in the water that you can actually use as platforms to safely cross the water. However, if you are not standing far enough to the right, sometimes the game will not register the third bomb splash, and you may have a difficult time getting all the way across. After you cross, you will see a fish bouncing back and forth over a small island. Remove this fish with a bomb, but don't be so hasty about removing other fish. Watch out for birds that fly above you when you cross the falling log bridges. A lizard will hop out of a second long lake as cannons drop down and create splash platforms. After you cross it, do not bomb the next set of fish that you encounter. You actually need to jump on top of them in order to cross the water. After that, you will approach the boss.

When you reach the end of the stage, you will see a crying child by a tree. The child is not actually the boss. Rather, a red lizard will approach from the left side of the screen. This is the boss you must defeat. He will walk back and forth along the floor, but never past the child. An easy strategy to use is to stand to the right of the child, on the left edge of the platform in front of the door so that the child's tears go over your head, and toss bombs to the left. If you time your toss right, one will land on the lizard's head and explode. You must bomb the lizard three times, either on his head, or by having the bomb explode in his proximity as he walks by.

Stage 3: Forest World[edit]

High up in the trees, there are many opportunities to fall through the bottom of the screen, but the jumps here are not as challenging as the previous stage. The caterpillars can be killed simply by jumping on top of them. Be careful jumping (or falling) from higher branches to lower branches; many useful items are stored below high branches and are very tempting, but may lead to your doom if you miss the branch below and fall. Use spiders and butterflies as platforms instead of killing them. The bonfire and its smoke will not actually harm you. Watch out for the bouncing natives who throw spears ahead of them. When you pass the first native and see the first butterfly, use the butterfly to safely cross the gap, and don't focus too much on the arc of burger tiles overhead. After a long row of burger tiles, you will reach a stone throwing enemy which you should bomb. After a series of branches, and a second bonfire, use the butterfly to reach the branch above. Be careful collecting the heart tile that appears soon after, as there is no land beneath it. Try to remove the remaining natives with bombs before attempting to jump to, or over, their branches. Be sure to collect the easy extra life tile before the bonfire in the trees. If you drop down to collect the heart tile below a butterfly, use the butterfly to get back up to the high branch, and hold B button while you jump to the right in order to clear the gap between the branches.

When you reach a large mechanical dragon-looking head in the tree, you should wait on the left side of the screen and watch it for a moment. The mouth will open up and a large blast of flame will fly from the left side of the screen to the right. Carefully jump over the flames. You will see a spear-throwing native in the upper right corner of the screen, but he is actually of no consequence. Your true goal is to time a leap into the mouth of the "dragon" so that you avoid getting burned by the flames. Wait for a flame to appear, and start running to the right at full speed. Leap to the right, but only high enough to clear the flame. Your momentum should carry you into the back of the mouth. Once inside, you will scare away the person working the mechanisms, and you will rescue Birdie the Early Bird, he first identifiably female character, introduced in February 1980 to promote the McDonald's new breakfast items.

Stage 4: Sky World[edit]

Donald Land Stage 4 screen.png

In this stage, Donald carries a large helium balloon which can keep him aloft through the air. To fly, simply push Up dpad. Unlike regular stages, it is actually the A button button that enables you to move faster in the sky. The blue balloons that appear are only capable of flying left, so once they pass you, they are no threat. You can safely collect most of the tiles you encounter here. The cupids/cherubs that you encounter here won't actually harm Donald. Instead, they just hold him still. Rapidly press left and right to shake them off and continue on your way. When you reach a monster tossing what appears to be small hamburgers into the air, toss a bomb to remove him. He will leave behind the rare helmet tile, which will grant Donald a very short period of invincibility. During this time, he can run into anything and kill it. Even though he will perform the "damaged" animation whenever he touches something, he won't actually lose health. Be careful of the arrows shot at high speed by angels. Fly over them to be safe. You will encounter two enemies, the top one in the shape of a + and the bottom one in the shape of a -. They will approach each other in the center and become a large electrical enemy which you can bomb or simply fly above. You will see another burger tossing monster who is hiding a heart tile behind him. Eventually, you will reach the interior of the castle. After a few more +/- enemies, you will reach the boss.

The boss is a giant fire salamander that rises up from below the floor. Once you reach him, your balloon will pop, but Donald is safe to stand on the fiery floor. What he is not safe from are the flames that the salamander belches forth. You must jump over them as they cross the floor. Your goal is to bomb the salamander's head several times. It just so happens that there is an easy method to defeat this boss without putting Donald in harm's way. Simply jump on to the salamander's hand and toss bomb at him while standing still. The bombs will come to rest just above his eye and explode until the salamander is defeated.

Stage 5: Oasis World[edit]

Donald Land Stage 5 screen.png

This is a stage that you can run through at a fairly fast pace and generally be ok. The first enemy that you will encounter are small bomb throwing creatures that resemble Jawas from the Star Wars series. Their bombs are equally dangerous to you, although you can safely ride on top of them. Another enemy is a red plant that creates large green fruit which rolls in Donald's direction. The fruit can only roll so far before disappearing however. A type of bird drops small purple creatures which fall to the ground and bounce on the floor. It's best to bomb the bird out of the way before trying to proceed past them unless you have considerable speed built up. The boss is inside a small doorway that you come to at the end of the stage.

The boss of this world is a strange animated skeleton or a large serpent. It has two distinct paths that it follows as it crosses the room. From right to left, it bobs up and down from the top of the room to the bottom and back. When it reaches the left side, it begins to rise as it travels right, then returns left, bouncing off the ceiling, and finally drops as it moves back to the right, whereupon it starts the bobbing pattern over again. All the while, it rains rib bones down on you. You must attach five apple bombs to the head to defeat it. The best time to hit it is when the head is relatively low to the ground, but you must retreat out of the way after you throw a bomb in order to avoid getting hit. Once five bombs explode, it will be defeated, and the three Fry Guys, the voracious French fries stealing creatures, will be released from captivity.

Stage 6: Cave World[edit]

Donald Land Stage 6 screen.png

This stage has Donald exploring a cave, as the name implies. Tiles are typically placed high up near the ceiling. As a means of crossing some gaps, Donald must time his leaps so that he lands on top of a set of falling stalactites, sometimes more than once, and jump off of them before they disappear below the screen. Holding down B button is very helpful in assuring that he will completely clear the gaps. Spiders can be both nuisances or platforms, so judge the situation accordingly before you bomb them. The sections of spiked floors will not harm Donald, but they will force him to continuously bounce, putting him at greater risk for getting hit. Around the time that you encounter such floors, you will also encounter small skeletons that have the ability to toss their broad skulls at you, which quickly regenerate on their necks. Bomb the skeletons away if possible to remain safe. When you reach an opening that resembles a clown face, you can collect a bomb tile from above the entrance before passing through it. This will take you from the green cave to a shorter blue cave. (Note that if you die in here, you will return to the beginning of the green cave.) The floor on this blue cave is icy, and while you will travel slower while walking on it, you will continue to slide when you stop walking unless you counter the slide by walking in the opposite direction. Round pink penguin-like enemies patrol some of the ledges, and a small man attacks Donald by throwing ice cubes at him. Pass through the door behind the second ice cube thrower to reach the boss.

When you reach the end of the stage, you will see purple Grimace asking for help behind the bars of a locked door. When you approach him, he will sink down, and a red one-eyed anti-Grimace will appear. He bounces left and right across the floor, and he tosses small purple creatures out. However, he has more of a tendency to throw them behind him and away from Donald's direction. Simply stand in front of him and toss bombs at him as he approaches you. If he happens to throw the purple creatures at Donald, jump over them and focus attacking the anti-Grimace rather than the purple creatures, which are just distractions. Once you bomb the anti-Grimace enough, the real Grimace will appear and thank you, before running back off to the right.
