Map of Slough of Despair

Upon arriving, there will be a marine on your right; kill him to get a shotgun. If that is all you have, it won't last long as two Demons, a man, and one or more flaming skulls will also be in the neighborhood, and their welcome is not very friendly.

Once you kill off this welcoming committee, go forward. There are two ways to go forward around the column. On the right is a 10% health pak before the step, on the left is a 1% health vial before the step. Both lead to a platform, and to your right is green armor. Forward and to the right of that are more shotgun shells and to the left is a 25% health pak. You will probably encounter another flaming skull.

You can also reach the above area along the left wall at the first break to the right. You may also meet two demons (one invisible) and a man.

[1]

If you continue along the left wall at the second break to the right is a small room containing a Cacodemon ("Caco"), some health and a box of shotgun shells. If you need them, have him chase you, then double back around the other side, but you may want to be careful that he doesn't trap you in there.

If you continue further along the left wall, at the point where it ends and turns to the right is a 25% health pak. You can also reach it (without the Caco seeing you) by going around on the right side of his lair.

If you continue along this wall, it will shortly open on your left, and continue along as a new left wall. A couple of demons may appear in this area.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the thumb, walk over the small nukage pit on the left. This lowers a wall revealing a chaingun. To claim the secret, you must walk over the wall - wallhugging will not give credit.
  2. In the top-left corner of the hand, you will see an arrow if you view the automap. It points to a secret door containing a plasma gun.
  3. In the middle finger, you should see two switches at the tip of the finger. An arrow points to the left switch, which reveals a supercharge. The right-hand switch opens a reveals a non-secret back panel, containing a box of rockets and medikits.

While not credited as secrets:

  • The first segment of the index finger has a pool of water. If entered, you may raise a triangular pillar, which can then be used to
  • The pinky finger, which contains the blue skull key, also has a switch that opens up the tip of the pinky, revealing a computer map.
