Map of The Focus (UV)

You begin the level in a rather small room facing a door. Beyond the door is a combination of zombiemen, shotgun guys, and heavy weapons dudes. Killing them may be difficult with only 50 bullets and a pistol; you may want to bolt past them to exploit friendly fire. At least the sergeants within the side room will sometimes have their shots obstructed by the rising and lowering windows.

You need to head into the room straight ahead and neutralize the two zombies that are hiding in ambush. Flip the switch to lower the blue key outside.

Head around and collect the blue key, killing monsters along the way. When you pick up the key, be cautious of the additional imps that are just around the corner.

Head into the blue key door - this leads to a dark corridor where monsters are hard to see. The light switch should be on the wall behind you, on the right hand side, which will make it easier to see and dodge monsters.

At the end of the corridor is a storage area where imps waiting in ambush. The switch on the wall turns the corridor lights off (limited use only in deathmatch). From here, you need to get the red key - stand on the small crate in the corner to lower a lift (one of the crates), and climb on it. Use that to reach the red key.

Return to the red gate (near the entrance) and go through it.

You should see a yellow keycard in front of you. Picking it up triggers an ambush of four Heavy Weapon dudes, thus you may want to jump down to the left and use the teleport to only be immediately attacked by two. Take out those two, then quickly dispatch the other two nearby. Flip the switch, turn left and enter the teleporter. Run across the newly raised bridge, open the yellow key gate, and kill the demon blocking the exit.

Weapons[edit]

  • Shotguns and chainguns can be picked up from monsters.
  • The super shotgun is found in a secret at the slime pit.

Secrets[edit]

  1. In the windowed tunnel, look for a wall to the right of the second window with two blue triangles. Open it.
  2. In the slimepit before the blue entrance, look for a wall with an odd texture. Jump in and open it for the super shotgun.
  3. To the left of the red key is a teleporter. Jump down (hitting the floor first) before teleporting; this brings you closer to the red key gate.

Shortcuts[edit]

At the end of the map, there is an ambush at the yellow key. You can bypass it by strafe-running onto the right ledge, then straferunning to the other ledge via the yellow key. Flip the switch and jump on the platform as it goes up (or straferun to the yellow door.)

Deathmatch[edit]

  • Shotgun in the sergeant area.
  • Super Shotgun remains in the secret area.
  • Rocket launcher at the blue key - you still have to lower it, and picking it up reveals a supercharge.
  • BFG at the red key secret.
  • Mega armor in the dark corridor.

The windows only activate once someone enters or leaves the start area. Until then, they aren't much of a defence in deathmatch (and don't provide much benefit.)

This map isn't designed for fighting; while the rocket launcher may be initially difficult to obtain (another player could grab it), once it's ready, a single player can get the rocket and SSG rather quickly.

If you see a player trying to get the BFG, camp within the control room overlooking the rocket launcher; you may have to be careful as the player may be bluffing and just going for the armor. The exit room contains nothing of interest, but is as accessible as flipping a switch.
