Beastmaster, usually referred to by his DotA name Rexxar, is a melee strength hero who is usually played as a support and initiator. His Wild Axes will slice through trees and enemies, letting him clear paths and kill creep waves without needing to get close. Being a friend of all animals, he can use Call of the Wild to summon a hawk to guard the skies and a boar to assisst him in battle. His Inner Beast will unlock the animal inside his allies improving their combat prowess. Finally, he can unleash a powerful Primal Roar that will blow enemies away or pin an unfortunate hero down.

Abilities[edit]

Wild Axes[edit]

  • Ability: Target Point
  • Damage Type: Composite
  • Damage: 90 / 120 / 150 / 180
  • Range: 1300
  • Mana Cost: 120
  • Cooldown: 13

Wild Axes lets you throw your axes like a boomerang, destroying trees and damaging enemies, though each axe can only hit an enemy once. You can use it to farm creeps when it is too dangerous to use your normal attack, like if you're playing on the short lane. It can also be used to clear a path, like when your allies are chasing an enemy or running away. You can also use it to damage enemy heroes, though since each axe does relatively low damage, you will have to make sure that you throw the axes in a way that both axes hit the enemy as they converge, which happens when they reach the spot you targeted.

Call of the Wild[edit]

  • Ability: No Target
  • Hawk Duration: 60 / 60 / 60 / 60
  • Boar Duration: 0 / 60 / 60 / 60
  • Mana Cost: 15
  • Cooldown: 40

Call of the Wild is really two abilities in one, both of which that are leveled up at the same time. One ability summons a hawk while the other summons a boar. Call of the Wild lets you summon a Scout Hawk at level 1, either a Scout Hawk or a Lesser Boar at level 2, a Greater Hawk or a Lesser Boar at level 3 and a Greater Hawk or a Greater Boar at level 4. These critters will become a major part of your playstyle, so learn how to micro-manage them effectively. With the Hawk, you can use it to scout enemy targets, especially since it give you flying vision, which is not obscured by trees and height differences. The Boar on the other hand doesn't do much damage, though it's attacks will slow enemies down, which is valuable when chasing foes down.

Scout Hawk / Greater Hawk
HP 50 / 100
Armor 0 / 5
Move Speed 270 / 400
Sight Range 500 at all times for Scout Hawk, 1600 for day and 1200 for night for Greater Hawk
Abilities Passive: Invisibility - If the hawk doesn't move for 4 seconds it will turn invisible. Only available on Greater Hawk.
Lesser Boar / Greater Boar
HP 400 / 500

Armor 0
Move Speed 350

Abilities Passive: Poison - The boar's attacks will slow enemy movement and attack speed by 20% for the Lesser Boar and 35% for the Greater Boar.

Inner Beast[edit]

  • Ability: Passive, Aura
  • Affect: Allies
  • Radius: 900
  • Bonus Attack Speed: 15 / 25 / 35 / 45

Inner Beast increases the attack speed of allies near you. Simply keep close to your allies when a teamfight is about to break out to let them benefit from the aura. The attack speed bonus is especially useful for carries, who rely on normal attacks instead of abilities to take down enemies.

Primal Roar[edit]

Dota 2 Primal Roar icon.png
  • Ability: Target Unit
  • Affects: Enemy Heroes
  • Damage Type: Magical
  • Damage: 200 / 250 / 300
  • Stun Duration: 3 / 3.5 / 4
  • Radius: 250
  • Movement Slow: 50%
  • Attack Slow: 50%
  • Slow Duration: 2 / 3 / 4
  • Scepter Cast Range: 950
  • Scepter Cooldown: 45
  • Mana Cost: 150 / 175 / 200
  • Cooldown: 80 / 75 / 70

Primal Roar will unleash a deafening roar at the targeted enemy, stunning the target and shoving all other enemy units aside and slowing them. It can be a devastating initiation, especially if you manage to catch multiple heroes with the roar's knockback. The targeted enemy itself won't survive very long after the stun if your allies are focusing it down. As for the rest of the enemies caught by the knickback and slowed, they aren't going to be able to run away very far before you and your allies catch up.

Aghanim's Scepter can be bought by Beastmaster and will increase the cast range and reduce the cooldown of Primal Roar.
