Mode B is a one-on-one street fighter like versus mode. Upon selection, the game presents a six person character selection screen, shown to the right. Whether the game is one player or two, only player one may select a character. The game only allows for each character to fight against an identical character (e.g. Linda vs. Linda or Roper vs. Roper), it is not possible to select two different characters to fight (although, by convention, the second player Billy can be thought of as Jimmy). Once a character is selected, the portraits of the fighters are shown before the game presents the arena in which both players will be fighting. The fight begins as soon as the arena is displayed.
The fight[edit]
The fight takes place in a closed off arena that contains brick walls on either side. There is depth in the play field, so it is possible to move up or down as well as left and right. The bottom of the screen displays the health meters for the first player and the opponent, either the computer or the second player. If the game is truly a two player game, the health meters start out with the same amount. However, if the game is a one player game, the computer player is typically given an advantage in the form of greater health. Apart from computer-controlled Linda, who starts out with the same amount of health, different characters begin with different increases in health, from Roper who has the smallest increase, to Abobo who is given the greatest increase. The fight is over when one player runs out of health.
Moves[edit]
The moves for Mode B are very similar to the moves available in Mode A, with a few alterations. The most significant change is the added ability to run to the left or right by double tapping the control pad in either direction. This initiates a run that can be followed up with an attack. Note that failing to stop and running into the walls will knock you down, but it won't actually do any damage. Since the camera positions itself between the characters, it is also possible to stand too far apart and run into a wall because you can't see how close you are to it. Additionally, weapons are available to certain characters which alter the moves they perform. These will be detailed below.

Abobo[edit]
No weapon is present during a fight between two Abobos. However, his moveset is slightly different from the other characters. Abobo can not perform a jump kick. As a result, pressing + performs a regular punch. However, it is possible to press these two buttons rapidly to make Abobo swing a barrage of punches that is incredibly difficult to interrupt. Also note that the computer controlled Abobo can perform a two-hand slap at any moment, while a player controlled Abobo may only perform it after successfully striking the opponent several times with regular punches.
