You begin the game with no other weapon in your possession other than the knife. You can never lose the knife, but it has a very limited range, and it is also weaker than the other weapons. Use it against slow and weak enemies, or when you want to conserve the ammunition of your other weapons.
Gun
The gun is a weapon which allows you to attack enemies from a safe distance than attacking with the knife. Bullets fly straight ahead when fired. You can collect ammunition for the gun in various rooms of the mansion. Collecting a gun adds ten bullets to your ammunition.
Machine Gun
The only difference between the gun and the machine gun is that the machine gun fires bullets at a rapid pace. This does not alwaysd work to your advantage, however, as many of the enemies have a small period of invincibility after getting hit, so the second and third bullet that you fire may have no effect. Use this gun when you are out of ammo for your normal gun, or against select bosses where the machine gun is particularly effective.
Grenade
When too many enemies are crowding the screen, making progress difficult, grenades are a good weapon to use to clear out the screen. They typically make short work of all but the strongest enemies. However, until you collect the Defense Suit item, you will also sustain 5 points of damage for every grenade blast that you cause. Grenades can be found throughout the house. Collecting them adds two to your inventory.
Laser Gun
The only use for the Laser Gun is to defeat the last boss in the game. The gun has been broken up into ten pieces. In order to assemble it and use it, you must collect each piece from each boss in ten different zones. The pieces come in a blue container, shown to the right. They will only appear when the boss is defeated. Upon collecting them, you will receive a password in case you need to stop playing and return to the game later on.
The yellow potion can commonly be found in various rooms throughout the mansion. Collecting each one will restore 25 points of health to your life.
Red Potion
Red potions are less common than yellow potions, but they too can be found in a few locations around the mansion. They provide 50 points of restored health.
Blue Potion
There are only two blue potions in the entire game, and they can only be collected in the boss rooms of two zones. They will restore a full 100 points of health to you when they are collected.
Health Capsule
There are four health capsules in the game, and they are guarded by four zone bosses. Collecting one will extend the maximum amount of your health meter by 100 points. They will also instantly provide you with 100 points of health as a result of collecting one.
The Ultraspace Sensor is an essential item that you must collect from the very first zone in order to locate and access all of the remaining zones. Even if you know where another zone entrance is supposed to be, you won't be able to enter it until you've collected this item.
Container
Not an item itself, these containers will hold one of the three items listed below. They are guarded by three zone bosses.
Air Helmet
The Air Helmet will allow you to breath underwater, thus preventing you from sustaining any damage while you try to wade through water. Without it, your health will slowly drain, making progress through larger bodies of water all but impossible.
Jump Shoes
The Jump Shoes will substantially increase the height of your jump. They are required in order to get past a number of tall obstacles in many of the zones. The zone in which the Jump Shoes are found is entirely underwater, so the Air Helmet is essential for collecting these.
Defense Suit
The Defense Suit is a power item that will drastically reduce the amount of damage that you sustain from enemy contact. Not only does it cut down on the damage that you take, it will prevent you from taking any damage when using a grenade. This is an important item to collect before certain powerful boss fights.
