Like many fighting games, characters in Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2 shares a LOT of moves and combos. In order to avoid to repeat all implied strategies within moves, this page will group them all.

Melee[edit]

While special moves like Kamehameha comes first when one heards "Dragon Ball Z", both in terms of appealing and damages, melee moves are many, and some of melee combos are as dangerous as an ultimate move on its own ! Point is, there is a lot to learn to really masterize it. Some moves, like Rushes or Lift Strike, are universally shared ; some, like Finishers, are performed by same inputs from a character to another, but have different effect ; and some, like Rolling Hammer, are performed by a single predefined input, but only some characters have access to it.

Rush[edit]

  • Just press Cross button to perform a punch. Press Cross button repeatedly to perform up to 5 punches. Punching this way is called Rushing, as seen in Training Mode. For example, "Rush 4" stands for 4 standard punches.
  • At any time while rushing (except after the 5th punch), you can use either :
    • A special move, which can also be performed in a Step-In or a Rush-In. It includes :
      • Finisher (effect depends on character and on rushing stage).
      • Lift Strike.
      • Ground Slash (not for all characters).
      • Counter (not for all characters, effect depends on character).
    • A standard move, which can also be performed outside rushing. It includes :
      • Smash
      • Rolling Hammer (not for all characters).
      • Grab
      • Stepside
      • Backstep
      • Ascend
      • Descend
  • While you are rushing, you can't :
    • Charge nor use subsequent moves (as Blast moves).
    • Move normally.
    • Guard (button is used for counter).
    • Use Ki Blasts (button is used for Finishers).
    • Step-In outside Rush-In.
    • Use Massive Throw (input is used for Lift Strike).
  • Once you land 5 punches, ennemy is slightly repelled, and you can't rush him anymore. To continue your combo, you have to use a Rush-In (see below).
