Regular enemies[edit]

Leapen Testoll Will o'the Wisp

This chicken-like monster attacks while bounding down hallways. They come in two colors. The yellow versions only take one hit to defeat, but the silver versions require two hits. A Testoll resembles an armadillo, in that it can roll itself up into a ball and attack Clovis. While it only takes one hit to defeat, it can't be harmed when it is tucked into a ball. The are the souls of monsters who have been defeated and remain to haunt the grounds they were killed in. They tend to bob up and down before homing in on a target and going in for the kill.
Stingray Slime Eyeful

While this odd creature may resemble a certain kind of fish, the Stingray floats silently over the ground, and mindlessly patrols various hallways. While many games depict Slimes as earthbound creatures, the Slimes in Dragon Buster hover in the air and wait for a chance to strike. They cannot be defeated by Clovis' sword! The bodies of Eyefuls are composed primarily of one giant eyeball. They hop around and try to make life miserable for any adventurer that happens to cross their sight.
Snake Bat Inosaii

Snakes come in three different colors; blue, green, and pink. They are all equally deadly, regardless of color. If the leap out and bite Clovis, they will latch on and slowly drain his health. Like snakes, Bats also come in three different colors (red, blue, and green). They flap about in the air waiting for the perfect time to strike, and then swoop down on their unsuspecting victim. The Inosaii monsters are like miniature rhinoceroses that like to charge down hallways and ram into anything that moves with their thick nose mounted horn. Strike them down or get out of their way.
Crawler Gold Crawler Cave Shark

These bugs make look quite large, but they are actually only very young larva. They do what they do best, crawl along the grow in search of nourishment for their growing bodies. Gold Crawlers are a lot like their green cousins, except that they are impervious to sword attacks. They can still, however, be attacked quite effectively with Fireball spells. The Cave Shark is a frightening creature is grim determination to kill Clovis. If he finds the exit, but does not utilize it right away, the Cave Shark appears in search of its prey.
Golem

What the Golem lacks in speed, it more than makes up for in size. Impossible to jump over, Golems attack with clubs that can do significant damage to Clovis if it connects. Green Golems require two hits to defeat.

Famicom/MSX2 enemies[edit]

Not all the enemies mentioned above are found in the Famicom and MSX2 versions of the game. In addition, four new enemies are introduced to the game.

Spider Thief

Spiders are fairly simple enemies. They prefer to walk along the ceilings, but will occasionally drop down to attack you. They jump back up as quickly as they fall and continue along the ceiling. Don't think you can safely walk beneath them. Swing your sword to dispatch them before continuing on. If there's one enemy to be on the look out for after you've collected a Super Sword, it's the Thief! Although you no longer have to decide between holding the sword or a sceptre, your possession of the sword is not permanent. If a Thief hits you while you have the sword, he will grab it and try to run away. Smash him with your regular sword to get the Super Sword back before it is gone forever. If you don't have the Super Sword, the Thief is just a minor annoyance.
Ghoul Rock

Ghouls are rather unique enemies; they cannot be harmed by your sword. Not even the Super Sword can scratch them, although the more powerful upgraded version of the Super Sword can. Ghouls are susceptible however to magic, so you'll either need to push them out of your way with your sword, or dispatch them with a spell in order to move past them. This strange little creature scuttles along the ground of the dungeons at quite a high speed. It can be difficult to catch them even when you're running. It doesn't like to be too close to Clovis. Instead, it prefers to stand a short distance away and do what it does best: spit stones at you. The stones come flying out of its mouth, which happens to be situated on the top of its head over its giant eye.

Room Guardians[edit]

Skeleton Fafnil

Despite being an animated corpse, the Skeleton is actually quite a skilled swordsman. You will have to pit your own sword skills against his in order to defeat the Skeleton and clear the room because he is completely invulnerable to magic. No Fireballs can harm him. Fafnil may look like some kind of dinosaur, but this is actually a young dragon, complete with the ability to breath fire. You will have to time your attacks carefully in order to escape the searing flames of the creature, or you may be standing right in the path of its next breath.
Wizard Bishop
Dragon Buster Wizard.png Dragon Buster Bishop.png
The Wizard is a particularly tough room guardian. Although he can cast multiple Fireball spells at you, he has also enchanted four swords that fly overhead to protect him. The swords lock in on you and attack when you approach him. Only the shield can protect you from the damage the deal. Though less dangerous to fight than the Wizard, the Bishop is still a very tough foe. The long reach of his halberd allows him to strike you at a much farther distance than you need to be to strike him. With the added ability to cast Fireballs like the Wizard, a downward slash is the safest approach. In Famicom version, he's capable of breaking your shield in a single blow, watch out.
