Lullaby

The quest begins when Lucy meets two other Fairy Tail wizards: Gray Fullbuster, an ice wizard who constantly bickers with Natsu, and Erza Scarlet, a powerful S-class Mage and one of the few who hold that honor in the guild. Erza asks Natsu and Gray to form a team with her in an effort to tackle a potentially difficult mission. Natsu is reluctant to join, until Erza makes a deal with him: after successfully completing the mission, she will face him in battle. With that, the team (and Lucy) head to the train station. This mission concerns a dangerous magical item, Lullaby, and a dark guild that plans to make use of it, Eisenwald. It isn’t long before Natsu runs into the mastermind behind the entire conspiracy: Erigor, assassin of Eisenwald.

Battle 1: Natsu vs. Erigor

Erigor is an opponent with excellent range. His scythe has good reach and some of his charged magic attacks can do even more damage from a distance. An example of this is Emera Baram, in which Erigor is able to fire blades of wind at Natsu; this attack can only be dodged by jumping, as it travels the length of the field. Another powerful attack of his is Storm Bringer, a tornado that surrounds Erigor and damages Natsu greatly if nearby; while this attack doesn’t have as much range as his others, it has power to back it up. Erigor’s tornados can even stay in place as he continues to attack, resulting in some powerful combos. His strongest attack has the best range of them all, both horizontally and vertically; Erigor shoots a tornado out at Natsu that covers the field, rendering him defenseless. Defensively, Erigor often jumps high to avoid attacks, and rebounds from all attacks quickly. When he’s charging magic, take a few steps back and dodge his attacks accordingly.

Despite Erigor’s defeat, the team must now face a larger threat: the monster at the center of Erigor’s master plan, Lullaby.

Battle 2: Natsu/Gray/Erza vs. Lullaby

For this battle, the player is given a choice between playing as Natsu, Gray, or Erza. You should be familiar with Natsu by now, but the safest choice is Erza. Only one of Gray’s magic attacks works well against Lullaby, and while Natsu does have a good move set, Erza’s attacks form easy combos that, when strung together, make her unstoppable. Lullaby has a multitude of attacks that simply cannot be dodged. It has the power to release poison gas that stuns the player character for a while, and can also bring a fist pounding down in a slant that can only be countered by blocking. In a similar attack, Lullaby can shoot down a series of three bullets that would also be best countered by blocking. It is an unconventional opponent in that it simply can’t be hit by some attacks, but at the very least it’s a large target.

Battle 3: Lullaby Round 2

Lullaby’s attacks are much the same as before; a sudden punch, sets of shots, and a release of poison gas are common, with the addition of the ability to shake the ground and knock the player character off of their feet. Again, stay away from normal attacks and focus on magic, meanwhile keeping a finger over Left dpad to block any potential attack. Once it stuns you, Lullaby can easily keep you in a combo. Simply follow the same pattern as before to defeat the now familiar opponent.

If you haven’t tried Erza yet, now would be a good time; test out her moves for an upcoming battle. Lullaby can still utilize its poison, shake the ground, raise its hand up for a punch, and shoots bullets from its mouth (indicated by the glowing yellow light that gathers before the shots). It can also stick its neck out and give the player character a massive headbutt. The biggest difference between this round and the others is the ability to hit Lullaby with normal attacks. Nevertheless, having made it this far, Lullaby should be predictable and anything but a challenge. Clear the battle to down the monster once and for all.

Following the successful mission, Natsu hasn’t forgotten about the promise Erza made to him. Back at the train station, Natsu and Erza clash in the ultimate test of strength.

Battle 5: Natsu vs. Erza

Erza tends to float all over the place, whether it be by gliding over Natsu’s head or charging at him with one of her attacks. Her ability to seamlessly equip different armors gives her a wide variety of attacks. Most of these involve her charging and slashing, whether it be by leaping with her Black Wing Armor, or by creating a fiery combo with her Fire Empress Armor. She can also toss a spear that shoots across the screen with great speed. She uses her Heaven’s Wheel Armor when close to Natsu, creating a wheel of swords that strike him as they go with her Circle Sword attack. She also uses her Heaven’s Wheel Armor when charging with Blumenblatt. Which attacks Erza will use can simply be seen by which armor she chooses to equip. Defeat Erza to complete the arc.

Back at the guild, Lucy notices the presence of two S-Class Mages: Mystogan and Laxus. She also learns of S-Class Jobs, placed on the second floor where only S-Class Mages have permission to enter. With that, the chapter concludes.
