The Cursed Island

The quest begins when Natsu and Happy present Lucy with their latest job, an S-Class stolen from the second floor. Despite Lucy’s protests, Natsu and Happy eagerly take her along for the trip, eventually leading them to search for a boat that will take them to the notorious Galuna Island. Unfortunately, all sailors they ask are fearful of the island, rumored to be cursed, and refuse to take the wizards any further. To make matters worse, the culprits behind the missing S-Class Job have been discovered at the guild, and Guild Master Makarov has sent Gray to retrieve them. When a sailor finally agrees to take them, Natsu, Lucy, and Happy bring an unwilling Gray along on their journey to Galuna Island.

Upon washing up on the island, the team meets with the village chief, Moka, and the troubled villagers. They reveal their physical deformities and Moka explains that it’s a result of the moon having turned purple, with its magical power transforming them into Demons during the night. They revert back to their human forms when the sun comes out, but there are some exceptions, and the villagers are forced to kill those few who threaten the safety of their village. Now it’s up to Natsu, Happy, Lucy, and Gray to end the curse and restore peace to Galuna Island.

The team searches the island and stumbles upon what Gray recognizes to be a crystallized Deliora, Demon of Destruction. It isn’t long before the team comes across the evil masterminds: Gray’s brother, Lyon Vastia, and his loyal follower, Sherry Blendy.

Battle 1: Natsu/Gray vs. Lyon

Like Gray, Lyon is an ice wizard. His magic attacks are similar to Gray’s, making Gray a more suitable opponent to his antagonistic brother. Despite its size, Lyon’s Ice-Make: Eagle can easily be shattered by Gray’s incoming Ice-Make: Lance. Other attacks of Lyon’s that can be countered are his Ice-Make: Panther and his Ice-Make: Sword combo. Gray can simply use Ice-Make: Prison to stop any of Lyon’s outgoing ice attacks and create his own combo. Be wary, as Lyon can also shatter any of Gray’s ice attacks by countering with his own in time. Nevertheless, Lyon isn’t a difficult opponent despite the choice of player character, as his attacks are slow (with the sole exception of the sword) and have a large window to be countered and shattered or blocked.

Lyon reveals his plan to free the Demon, Deliora, so that he can defeat it himself. The Fairy Tail team, shocked by his recklessness, continues their offense.

Battles 2 & 3: Lucy vs. Sherry

Due to Sherry’s control over others, she seems to be a suitable opponent for Lucy. Her magic, Doll Attack, allows her to take control of anything, with the exception of humans. Her Carpet Doll spans the length of the screen, rolling along until it hits. Her Rock Doll allows her to form a golem, whose fist she uses to rise up out of the ground and send Lucy flying. Her Wood Doll allows her to take control of a giant tree, which extends its branches to attack. Lastly, Sherry also takes control of a giant rat (who she calls Angelica), which can perform a body drop from the sky on Lucy. Sherry’s unconventional attack pattern and ability to protect herself by placing her creations in front of her make her a difficult opponent. Make use of Lucy’s longer range attacks, such as her whip and Aquarius. With the power behind Lucy’s summons, downing all of Sherry’s health before Lucy’s drops should be a very possible task. Another battle versus Sherry will follow, but it’s not any different and should go by much quicker.

After Lucy’s defeat of Sherry, Erza arrives to retrieve Natsu’s troublesome team and bring them back to the guild to be punished for breaking the rules. However, for the sake of his friend, Natsu continues his battle.

Battle 4: Natsu vs. Lyon

Playing as Natsu, this battle will be a bit more difficult than the previous showdown against Lyon. He tends to counter much more than he gives you the chance to, and Natsu’s lack of long-range attack doesn’t give him the window that Gray had to shatter Lyon’s ice. He also introduces Ice-Make: Hedgehog, which he uses when close to Natsu in conjunction with his Ice-Make: Sword combo. Hedgehog causes icy spikes to shoot out of his body, damaging anyone nearby. Throughout the battle, Lyon will continuously attempt to corner Natsu. If need be, jump over Lyon and corner him instead; it’s an effective strategy and doesn’t give him much of an opportunity to charge magic in peace.

Although Natsu does his best, Gray convinces his hot-headed colleague that this is his fight. Lyon wishes to surpass their teacher, Ur, who froze the Demon to protect the boys when they were children at the cost of her life. Gray wishes to defend the wishes of Ur by leaving the Demon frozen and the land safe. With the resolve of both men strong, the final battle that will determine the fate of Galuna Island commences.

Battle 5: Gray vs. Lyon

As in his battle with Natsu, Lyon is merciless, often shooting an ice attack at Gray before he has the chance to fully recover from knockdown. He makes common use of the Eagle and Sword, shooting if Gray chooses to distance himself with the former and gliding quickly through the air to get close enough for a slash with the latter. The Hammer has a great margin for error, so make the most use out of the Lance and the Prison to counter Lyon’s attacks, as he will more often than not counter Gray’s. At times, his counters will have the power to break through Gray’s Ice-Make: Shield, rendering him stunned. If dodging is not an option, attempting a counter is risky but with correct timing, the best alternative.

Lyon’s ritual to unfreeze the Demon concludes, only to reveal that Ur did kill Deliora after all. The relieved Fairy Tail team returns to the village to bring an end to their S-Class Job.
