Casinos[edit]
Within New Vegas, there are five casinos to visit. They are:
- Vikki and Vance Casino (2500 cap limit)
- Atomic Wrangler (5000 cap limit)
- Gomorrah (9000 cap limit)
- The Tops (10000 cap limit)
- Ultra-Luxe (15000 cap limit)
When you reach one-quarter, one-half or three-quarters of the winnings limit, you will receive a prize for being a good gambler. However, reaching the limit will prevent you from playing further gambling games at the casino, but you are still free to use other provided services.
Gambling in the casinos has benefits provided by luck. A higher luck stat gives you a better chance of scoring a jackpot or winning bet.
While it is possible to load a saved game after losing in the casino, this will cause the betting machines and managers to check themselves as an anti-cheating measure, requiring you to wait 60 seconds.
Blackjack[edit]
Blackjack is the classical card game used in casinos. The objective is to get as close as possible to 21 without going over.
Both you and the dealer are dealt 2 cards. Cards ranging from 2 to 10 have their number as face value, with Jacks, Queens, and Kings also having 10. The ace is worth either 11 or 1, which ever is better. Once the player stops taking cards, the dealer keeps getting cards until they are over 17 points.
In addition to hitting and standing, there are two additional commands. The first is Double Down, which doubles your bet and deals exactly one card. (This must be the first action in the dealt hand) The other is split, which is only permitted if both of your cards are identical. This doubles your bet, with each hand played individually.
Roulette[edit]
Roulette is played with a ball being dropped into a wheel, with the ball landing on one of 38 numbers: 1 through 36, and the specials 0 and 00. The payoff for the bets are based on 36:1 chances for a single number, going down to 1:1 for choosing even/odd numbers.
Roulette should be used as one of the later gambling options to maximize the winnings after the limit.
Slots[edit]
The slot machine provides the biggest jackpots, but lowest betting limit. It should be chosen as the last game in the casino. Also, players with a high luck attribute will generally receive the jackpot usually within 12 spins.
Starting with version 1.4.0.525, the maximum bet on slots is reduced.
Ultra-Luxe is the only casino that doesn't provide slots, due to their noise.
