Fantasy Zone stage mockstar.gif

The sixth round, named Mockstar, takes place on a world full of warm clouds. It is home to a considerably aggressive enemy known as Poyon. All the enemies on Mockstar will begin to fire upon Opa-Opa almost as quickly as they appear on the screen. Your best defense against this is to maximize your attack range with the 7-Way Shot. Fire it continuously to destroy the enemies before they have a chance to attack. You might also decide to purchase a Laser Beam, but this will require you to be vigilant and attack the Poyons and Squares as soon as you spot them. Don't slow down!

Occupants[edit]

Base[edit]

The bases in Mockstar are called Barungas. They float on top of clouds, and are quite scattered throughout the level. They produce the enemy known as Poyon, and they do so continuously. Be sure to attack up close if you use the 7-Way Shot in order to defeat them quickly.

Enemies[edit]

Poyon Moocolon

The Poyons are produced by the bases in this world. They seek to collide with Opa-Opa wherever he is, and they will hunt him down. They must overcome their own momentum, so it's easy to escape from them just by turning around and flying in the other direction.

These enemies were first seen in Plaleaf. As before, they show up in groups of four and march across the screen, shooting at Opa-Opa. Watch out that you don't fly into them when they appear.

Botelynn Square

Reappearing from Tabas, the Botelynns still appear in large column formations. They will fire at Opa-Opa together, as they slide back and forth within their formation.

Last seen in the stage of Dolimicca, Squares continue to defy the scroll of the screen. While the 7-Way Shot is active, they aren't much of a threat, but once it runs out, be careful.

Mechafish Billian

The schools of MFs from La Dune reappear here. They will still arrive in a triangular squadron of ten, "swimming" across the screen.

Also reappearing from Dolimicca, the Billians appear in groups of four. They move a short distance and fire at Opa-Opa, and repeat.

Boss[edit]

The boss of Mockstar is an unusual creature known as Winklone, consisting of a single eyeball that arrives from the left side of the screen. It travels to the middle and releases six evenly spaced out arms of clouds. The clouds are dangerous to Opa-Opa, and once they extend, he must be careful never to get hit by them as they rotate clockwise around the screen. The speed of the rotation increases gradually as time goes by. Naturally, the eyeball is the only weak point, and it is only vulnerable to attack when the eyelid is not closed. Successful attacks tend to cause the eyelids to shut. Your only real chance to attack with the Twin Shot is when you are lined up left and right with the eyeball. But, if you have the 7-Way you can align the bullets from farther up and down and get more hits that way. Be sure to get in as many shots as you possibly can before moving to avoid getting hit by the clouds. If you get close enough, it's possible to attack with bombs, and it takes 12 bombs to defeat Winklone, regardless of the type of bomb used.

SMS & MSX boss[edit]

Due to the hardware limitations of the Sega Master System and the MSX home computer, Winklone could not be properly presented as the boss of Mockstar, so he was replaced with a simpler boss. This boss is know as "D.Z. Deno Roma" and appears to be a large turtle with artillery mounted on its shell. He fires a continuous supply of bullets from his shell, which arc through the air and generally attack Opa-Opa from above. His only weak point is his head, which he can withdraw into his shell. You must time your attacks so as to hit him while his head is exposed. It is possible to kill him with one well timed Heavy Bomb, but this can be tricky. Be sure to pay attention to the bullets falling out of the sky in order to avoid getting killed.
