Whisperwind Cove is a new 40-level Soul of Chaos dungeon added in the Dawn of Souls release of Final Fantasy I. It is an optional dungeon, located north of the Cavern of Ice along the narrow river paths. Access is granted once players have defeated the Fiend of Wind, Tiamat.

Astute Final Fantasy fans might recognize the bosses contained in Whisperwind Cove, as they all previously appeared in Final Fantasy VI (not to be confused with Final Fantasy III). Players will need to run the entirety of Whisperwind Cove in order to see all four new bosses.

It is highly recommended that you save your game before entering Whisperwind Cove! It is also highly recommended that you do not save inside Whisperwind Cove, as once you enter, there is no way out except by defeating a boss or by being defeated by any enemy.

Entrance Area[edit]

A lone Lufenian keeps watch over the entrance area. If you haven't defeated Tiamat yet, you can't continue beyond this point. WARNING: Once you enter the nearby door, you will be unable to return to this area. Also, the White Magic spell Exit and Black magic spell Teleport will not function further inside! Enter the door when ready. And it is highly recommended that you have two save files for this dungeon, one saved outside of the dungeon and one to have inside the dungeon to save every few floors. Incase of emergency load old save file and not lose gil if you are experimenting with this dungeon.

Basements 1-9[edit]

The basements are randomly-ordered from a set group of different basement layouts.

Basement 10 (Boss Floor)[edit]

This basement is a fixed layout and contains no random enemies. One of the four new bosses, Typhon, resides on this level. Approach the flame and press A to engage Typhon. He has 10,000 HP and is weak against Ice. Upon defeating Typhon, the player may choose to proceed deeper into Whisperwind Cove or may choose to exit to the surface.

He has a Special attack called "snort", that often hits and kills 1 of your Characters. Full-Life is very important to bring him/her back to life.

Basements 11-19[edit]

The basements are randomly-ordered from a set group of different basement layouts.

Basement 20 (Boss Floor)[edit]

This basement is a fixed layout and contains no random enemies. One of the four new bosses, Orthros, resides on this level. Approach the flame and press A to engage Orthros. He has 17,000 HP and he is weak against fire and lightning. Upon defeating Orthros, the player may choose to proceed deeper into Whisperwind Cove or may choose to exit to the surface.

He has a Special attack called "Ink" that can occasionally blind some of your characters, temporarily lowering their accuracy.

Basements 21-29[edit]

The basements are randomly-ordered from a set group of different basement layouts.

Basement 30 (Boss Floor)[edit]

This basement is a fixed layout and contains no random enemies. One of the four new bosses, Phantom Train, resides on this level. Approach the flame and press A to engage Phantom Train HP 9999. He casts Acid Rain throughout almost the entire battle so make sure to heal often he does attack and can kill in one strike be careful. Phantom Train is weak against Fire, Dia and Holy. Upon defeating Phantom Train, the player may choose to proceed deeper into Whisperwind Cove or may choose to exit to the surface.

Has a Special attack called "Acid Rain" hits allways all chars for 250-299 dmg. If you have AOE Heal + about 600 Life onboard no problem.

Basements 31-39[edit]

The basements are randomly-ordered from a set group of different basement layouts.

Basement 40 (Boss Floor)[edit]

This basement is a fixed layout and contains no random enemies. One of the four new bosses, Death Gaze, resides on this level. Approach the flame and press A to engage Death Gaze. Death Gaze HP is 30000, so make sure to use Holy and Flare. If you have protect, use it; Death Gaze is a one hitter quitter. He usually uses one-hit KO spells, but if you have protect rings it shouldn't be a problem. Then have the other character use Ether and Turbo Ether to keep those MP points high. Upon defeating Death Gaze, go through the portal and on the other side is a door. Go through it to get Ultima Weapon, which raises your attack points past that of Excalibur. The player is then forced to exit to the surface.

Drops light bringer which allows casting holy when used as an item.

Encountered floors[edit]

Somewhere along the line of forty flours there will be a few special floors that you'll encounter that will have some unique features and some hard puzzles

Mage town[edit]

This is a mage town that is full abundant with different color mages that sell many useful spell items, items that cast spells, an ALL of the spells in the game, white or black, 1-8 level. here are some of them
