Small Island[edit]

when you land it take a bit of time to recover and realize where you are. You are stranded on a small island with nothing to do but wander around and fight monsters. If you stop for a few minutes then Reina suggests setting up a Tent and resting. If you do not have a tent fight the Paos, which will always drop a Tent after the battle. Even if you already have a few, this makes a cheap way to stock up if you are running low.

When you use the Tent you get a cut scene. A monster appears and carries them off before Bartz can react. The monster returns and a battle begins. If you lose this battle it is ok because you end up with Reina and Faris in a cell somewhere. If you win the battle you can get an Ether; in this case open the chest the monster leaves behind. When you do, it trips a sleeping gas trap and you are imprisoned with your party members.

X-Death's Castle[edit]

Renamed: Exdeath's Castle (GBA)

The cell is in X-Death's castle. When you wake up, X-Death comes in and explains he needs you to stop Galuf who is about to storm the castle with his army. He has his minion set up a mirror which projects your images into the sky, and Galuf, seeing that you are being held hostage, stops his advance. X-Death calls his assistant Gilgamesh to guard you.

Galuf borrows a dragon from his granddaughter and comes to the rescue. Upon entering the castle, Galuf finds the chest where the crystal shards are being kept. You now play as Galuf solo for while. You may be concerned that Galuf's supply of items and equipment might be lacking seeing as the rest of you kept everything Galuf was not wearing.

First, go thought the door to the north; there is a small room with a save point followed by a larger room with two healing pools. Go back to the first room, then find the stair in the southwest corner and head down to B1. Go east past some guards who do not notice you, and down more stairs to B2. You start getting random monsters here. Cross to the northwest corner and down steps to B3.

This is the floor where the rest of the party is being held. As soon as you get close enough for Gilgamesh to see you a battle starts.

Gilgamesh (1st encounter)
Boss level: 26, Recommended party level: 23
HP: about 2000, Weaknesses: None, Nullifies: None, Absorbs: None
Gold: 0, ABP: 0, Drops: None
Description/Strategy

Preparation: Since you only have one character here you need a good combination setup. A warrior type with White ability is the most obvious and seems to work. If Galuf has not earned White 1 yet then you might try making him a Red Mage instead. Use Tonics to get to full health before starting. (At this point in the game Tonics are not going to be useful in battle because your character will probably take at least 50HP damage in the time it takes to use one. So use them up between battles and start stocking up on Potions instead) If Galuf is level 26 then it might be a good idea to level to 27 in the upper floors, otherwise the GobPunch attack that Gilgamesh uses could be a problem. If you do not have the Blue Magic spell GobPunch then you can learn it now if you have the Learning ability.

Tactics: The battle should be easy to win if you keep your health up. Cast Protes and stay in the back row and you should not have trouble keeping up with Cure. You should now have attacks strong enough to take out Gilgamesh in three or four turns, so you may not need to heal at all if Galuf is in a warrior Job like Knight.

When Gilgamesh has had enough he flees. Galuf reunites with the rest of the party and it's time to make your escape. When you reach the first room take the door south to reach the outside.

Big Bridge[edit]

You are now in the wilderness near the castle, on what will be called X-Death's Island. Head south out of the mountains, then toward the west side of the island. It is best to avoid the forest unless you want to collect the Blue spell Doom Claw from the Trents who lurk there.

When you reach the bridge to the mainland you enter an area called the Big Bridge. You have a number of set encounters with guards, which are not too difficult to handle. The actual monsters you encounter appear to be somewhat randomized, but you cannot escape from the battles. Navigation is simple; just keep going up. When you go inside a support tower in the middle of the bridge, Gilgamesh appears again.

Gilgamesh (2nd encounter)
Boss level: 28, Recommended party level: 24
HP: about 6000, Weaknesses: None, Nullifies: None, Absorbs: None
Gold: 0, ABP: 0, Drops: None
Description/Strategy

Preparation: Gilgamesh is much stronger in in this battle, but the usual healing power of a healer with Cure2 and a backup healer with Cure should be enough with the right setup. A Time Mage with Haste and Slow will be very useful here; the Slow spell being especially important. For damage dealing, a Summoner with Titan works well, but have strong fighters also.

Tactics: Gilgamesh uses primarily physical attacks, so cast Protes on everyone near the beginning. Cast Slow on Gilgamesh and, if you have it, Haste on everyone in your party starting with your healers. After that cast Regen on everyone for good measure. Meanwhile, have anyone that is not busy attack, but save your MP for later instead of using attack spells. When Gilgamesh is down to about a third of his HP he starts to concede your victory, but then takes it back. He buffs himself with casting Haste, Shell, and Protes and starts to use the Lancer ability Jump. Your attacks will be about half as effective and his Jump attack will do more damage to you than his other attacks. Cast Titan and your other strong attack spells to defeat him.

Gilgamesh escapes, vowing to meet you again. Continue north where you may have more encounters with guards. Finally you meet Krill at the end of the bridge. X-Death turns on his magic barrier around the island. You are caught up in the wake and are thrown into the air, leaving Krile behind to wonder what happened to you.
