Talk to Lobart. He'll offer to sell you some Farmer's Clothes, although he charges 70 gold for them (80 in Night of the Raven). If you do some menial tasks for him you can lower the asking price to a mere 40 gold. Note that you can get the Clothes for free by robbing his house; you can always choose to do the quests to earn some experience and then make a run for it with the clothes and anything else you can find. Leaving right after getting the cash to buy A Pan for Hilda and before you Bring the turnips to Hilda would be the ideal time to make off with the maximum amount. If Lothar sees you after you took the Clothes he will know you have taken them (yes, even if you aren't wearing them). If you refuse to give them back, or dropped them somewhere, he'll attack you. You can always outrun him if necessary, but it's best to just not be seen by him. If you do choose to give the Clothes back he won't bear a grudge.
Every task you do for him or others on the farm lowers the asking price by 10 gold. If you mention that you were attacked you can then help clear out The Bandits at Lobart's Farm. The first farming task he gives you is to Harvest the Turnip Field, once you have done this the last two tasks open up. Talk to the named farmers to get them.
Once you have lowered the price sufficiently it's time to buy the Clothes. He tells you to collect them from the chest in his house. Of course you could just skip this step and steal them to save paying even 40 gold.
