A-1[edit]

This is a test of composite corners that uses the S-bend sections of the High-speed Ring. After the start, starting turning right as soon as you see the red and white rumble strip on the left, and approach the right corner. Be careful because you should go further back onto this kerb than you would expect. If you can skillfully take a good line, you can clear this corner at full acceleration. Try to come from as far to the left as you can to the inside kerb. The corner is very long, so you will need to be controlled in the application of the accelerator. If you move to the outside of the corner as you come out of it, the following left corner becomes very tight, so you should remain on the inside of the corner. Brake slightly on the approach to the left corner. here you will also need to be careful - if you accelerate too soon, the car will understeer and you won't be able to make the turn.

A-2[edit]

This time you will try driving a Lotus Elise 111R in the same scenario as the previous test. Be careful because this is a light, powerful, mid-engined car, which feels completely different to drive. On the entrance to the right corner after the bridge, if you do not brake firmly to shift the weight onto the front tyres, the car will understeer. Take care not to get stuck on the outside of the corner or you will fail to enter the second left corner. It is important that you are especially aware of changes in weight distribution during this lesson.

A-3[edit]

This is a test of high-speed cornering during the final corner of the Deep Forest Raceway. The test car is the high-powered, front-engined, front wheel drive Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. Keep the car on the right side of the track from the start, and begin turning when you are near the gate before the corner. Touch the brakes briefly at this time to control your speed - if you don't slow down sufficiently you will run off the course as you exit the corner. For this test it is recommended to start off slow and gradually build up your speed each time.

This is another high-speed cornering test that uses the famous 130R corner of the Suzuka circuit. You will start on the back straight at a speed if 130km/h and approach the corner from the right side of the track. As the entrance to the 130R corner is very tight, you need to begin turning immediately after braking. If you turn too late, you won't make it to the kerb on the inside of the corner and will run off the course as you exit. Look for a visual cue around the area of the corner and use it to try to find the best point to begin your turn.

This test is a single lap around Grand Valley East, following a pace car. Although Grand Valley is a relatively flat course, the shortcut in the East section goes over the brow of a hill, making it even more enjoyable to drive than the full course. You should be careful in your approach to the first shortcut after the first corner, as it is a blind bend obscured by the hill. For the cut across the track after the tunnel, it is important that you enter from the left side of the track.

Here you will learn to master complex corners using the S section of Twin-Ring Motegi. Be careful not to lose the tracing line as you negotiate the two back-to-back corners. If you run wide coming out of the first corner, the second corner will become much more sever. You need to be extra careful as the corner exit-speed will then affect your speed on the following straight. You can use the full width of the course with the second corner, and exit the corner on the outer edge. Approach the final left-hand bend from the right side of the straight section.

This is a test of how to negotiate the more difficult racetracks, by using the technical section of the legendary Nürburgring. Accelerate hard out of the first left-hand bend then brake firmly on the approach to the S section. The first left-hand bend of the S has the feeling of being on the outside of the corner, and momentarily touching the inside of the corner. If done correctly you can soon change your steering and continue on into the second corner. If you can find the perfect racing line, you can power through the second corner at full throttle. As such, you will definitely need to drive with a smooth rhythm to successfully negotiate this test.

Here you will practice cornering before the bridge (after the hairpin) on the El Capitan course. Whilst the track bears to the left accelerate as hard as you can. The first left-hand bend is actually two left corners that get tighter towards the end. Try to stay near the centre of the track without trying to take the inside line, and ensure you do not run over the kerb. You can then clear the left corner after the following straight without having to brake.

Coffee Break[edit]

This stage is another coffee break to relax you after the strenuous licence stages, with the training car being an Opel Speedster Turbo. One hundred cones are laid out around the Driving Park course. The goal is to knock over every single one of the cones, arranged in a curve with a gradually increasing radius. Handle the car smoothly to knock over all the cones.

A-9[edit]

This is a test of applied cornering that uses the S section of the Suzuka Circuit. Although there is a left-right-left series of corners, you will find it impossible to run through these at full throttle. Rather you will need to brake lightly at each corner and firmly control the direction of the car. It is important that you drive with the correct rhythm and that you do not reduce speed more than necessary. Be careful with this test as the gradient of the track levels out halfway through the final left corner making it easy to understeer.

In this test you will follow a pace car for 1 lap around the Suzuka circuit, a course that frequently appears in these tests. Because it is a long course, make sure that you commit the layout to memory. There are many difficult sections, including the reverse banking, Degner and 130R, and simply driving in your own style will not reward you with a good time. If you hit the pace car too hard you will be instantly disqualified, so take due care. For this test the training car is a Honda Integra Type R - model DC5.

A-11[edit]

This is a test of complex corners on a dirt surface, using the cliff side of the Grand Canyon track. Try to manoeuvre through the part of the course where it bears to the right, then clear the left corner right after the start in a direct line, then jump into the inside of the first right-hand bend. Firm steering will be needed to change the car's direction during this section. Although you will drift towards the outside of the corner, you should aim to skim the inside of the next left corner. Drive as if the two corners are connected to form a circle.

A-12[edit]

This is a test that uses the winding uphill nature of the Tahiti Maze. Try to pass through the series of three hairpin corners without losing too much speed. The trick to this is in controlling your slides. Brake just before the corner, then accelerate when the cars weight is on the front wheels to make the car slide. If you control the slide using both steering and acceleration, you will be able to clear the corner without losing any speed. Practice this technique so that you can use it in every rally-based stage.

A-13[edit]

This is a test using the blind section of Trial Mountain where rock faces close in around you. You are faced with the first blind corner as soon as you come out of the first tunnel so reduce speed sufficiently to ensure you can stick to the inside of the corner. Enter the second tunnel close to the right wall, with the aim of exiting from the tunnel as close to the left wall as possible. The area just after the tunnel has diagonal yellow lines painted on the road surface to fully guide you to the inside of the corner. The way you handle this section will determine your speed through the following straight, so practice it as many times as you need to get it perfect.

A-14[edit]

This test uses the downhill section in the middle part of the Nürburgring track. This gives you the chance to try out continuous high-speed cornering. Take a line towards the outside immediately after clearing the first high-speed S bend. Although there is a long sweeping right corner after this, you should drive whilst sticking to the inside. There is a chicane-like left corner after the short straight. You should consider greatly reducing your speed so that you can take a line that reaches the inside of the corner quickly, and lets you open up the throttle sooner. This section gives you a great insight into understanding Nürburgring as a whole.

This test consists of one lap of Trail Mountain, once again following the pace car. The highlight of this course is the blind section that appeared in the previous test. You should drive using the entire width of the course without being afraid of colliding with the rock walls. You also need to be careful of the chicane in the final corner. Although it may not seem like much of a problem to ride up onto the kerb on the right side, there is a chance that you will lose control and hit the concrete wall ahead. You will be disqualified if your driving causes you to hit the pace car too hard. The training car is a Mazda Atenza 23Z.

A-16[edit]

This is the graduation test for the Nation "A" Licence. You will drive along the section of the Nürburgring North course just past the carousel. Although this is part of the most interesting technical sections of Nürburgring, watch carefully during the first demonstration run and try to remember how fast you can go through each corner. If you cannot control your speed correctly, you will gradually drift towards the outside and come off the course. As there are also some corners where you cannot see far ahead due to the hills, it is important to remember well in advance how hard you need to steer.
