Earn this extra by getting three zeros at the end of your score.

This stage begins by scrolling down. You will be set upon by squadrons of Puka Pukas and Rin Rin. Remember that while the Rin Rin's projectiles can be canceled with your Ofuda cards, the Puka Puka's cannot. Further down, Minojii will join the battle against you. While you make your way down to the bottom of the first leg of the stage, prepare to get three zeros at the end of your score. You will find a lantern at the point in the stage where it stop scrolling down and starts scrolling to the right. If you shoot the ground below it, normally you will get a yellow crystal. But if you shoot it when your score ends in three zeros, you will earn an extra life. To help get you there, remember that shooting a Puka Puka earns 200 points, and hitting it with a wand earns 100. If you wait for the Garakotsu to climb out of the ground, you can shoot them for 100 points or hit them with the wand for 50. (Shooting the Rin Rin projectiles also earns 50 points.) Just remember not to overstay your welcome, or the Ring of Fire will appear.

Watch out for the new enemy, the stone throwing Younebaa.

When the screen starts scrolling right, a new enemy will appear. Along with the Puka Pukas and some Bake Chouchin, you will meet the stone throwing Younebaa. While they don't move to attack you like many of the other enemies, they throw several stones at you as you walk by. Some of them aren't even on the same path as you, but are waiting for you up on cliffs. You can still shoot at them with Ofuda cards. Later on in this leg of the stage, the tombstone-like Toosenbous will join the fight. Stay relatively high to shoot them before you try to pass under them.

Dodge the flames of the will-o'-wisps.

When you see the torii gate, the screen will stop scrolling to the right, and start scrolling down again. The well nearby will send several Baku Uri. As the screen starts scrolling down, you'll have to be careful of a new threat, the will-o'-wisps. The will-o'-wisps are invincible blue flames that fly up from the bottom of the screen to the top. They move in a wave pattern, winding right and left as they fly up the screen. Each wisp follows the one from before, just slightly behind the previous one. The effect is that it creates safe pockets of space that slowly moves down the stage. You'll have to carefully move down with the safe space created by the wisps, while fighting against the Puka Pukas and Minojiis that attack at the same time.

Once you make it through the will-o'-wisp section, you will see a hut where an Ogei neck girl strikes out to attack you. It is best to remove the girl before proceeding, but keep your eye on the surrounding enemies as well. The path around the hut is narrow, so be careful before proceeding. If you remove the Ogei, you'll have an easier time collecting the stage key. Enemies will continue to appear all the way up to the stage boss arena.

Boss[edit]

The boss of the 5th stage is a prayer-bead monk who has turned evil. His name is Soujusou, and instead of wearing his prayer beads like a good monk should, he uses them as a whip! He carries the whip in his right hand, so he attacks from the left side. At full length, the whip can reach a good distance across the screen, so it's important to attack from a safe distance. To make matters worse, he is only vulnerable to attack when his eyes are open.

Begin shooting the boss as soon as he appears. He will begin heading down to the bottom right side of the screen, although he may stop to attack if Sayo is within range of his whip. Once he's on the bottom, he will begin moving slowing to the left. If you remain in the lower left corner, you can actually defeat him before he makes it all the way across if you fire your Ofuda cards fast enough. If you aren't able to defeat him in time, you'll have to move very quickly to the top. Soujusou will start moving up to one of the corners, and it is vital that you make sure that you're not in his way. Once you a clear of his path, you can attack him diagonally. If you make it around to him again after beating the game once, you will notice that Soujusou moves a bit faster, so you will have to attack from a safer distance.

The god of wealth that you rescue this time is Fukurokuju. Fukurokuju is a deity of happiness, prosperity, longevity, and wisdom. He is usually depicted with an extremely high-domed bald head and a long white beard (symbolizing great wisdom and age) and sometimes carrying a staff and a scroll containing the world's wisdom.
